Chapter 86-The Accident

“ What is the problem, Hardin?" My boss asked, as soon as she opened the car door and stepped out and I immediately came out of my thoughts.

“ It's not good news," I said.

“ What happened?" She asked with curiosity.

" Mrs Shawn got into an accident and…" I couldn't bring myself to complete that word because I was standing in shock myself.

“ And what, Hardin?" My boss asked, looking at me.

“ And she's dead,"

“ Oh my God," she whispered as she covered her mouth and moved back in shock.

“ We were just about to go and meet her, how did, God," she said as she placed her hand on her forehead looking confused.

“ Did they tell you where the accident happened?" She asked and I shook my head.

“ The call was fast, her assistant just told me because we were supposed to meet," I said.

“ Her assistant? Weren't they together when the accident happened?" She asked.

“ I really don't know the full details of everything but we have to go to them,” I said as she nodded before she entered the car and I turned around to the driver's side and got in.

I quickly put a call through to the assistant to tell us what hospital they were in.

When we got to the hospital I parked the car as we both got out of the car and rushed into the hospital.

“ What happened?" My boss asked as soon as she saw Mrs Shawn's assistant.

“ It's so complicated right now it scares me," he said as we looked at him in confusion.

“ What do you mean?" She asked him.

“ The car brake failed and that car was in good condition, I make sure that all her cars are in good condition before she uses them, so I don't understand why the car brake would fail," he said as he turned away from us, blinking away tears.

I couldn't say I know how he was feeling but his boss just died so I know he wasn't feeling good.

“ It's okay,” I said as I handed him a handkerchief and he took it as he cleaned his tears and raised his head.

“ None of us saw this coming, the car was okay, it was okay," he said with a shake of his head.

“ It's going to be okay," I said as I patted him on the shoulder.

“ Was there any other person in the car with her?" My boss suddenly asked.

“ Yes, the driver, he didn't make it too," he said as my boss released a breath through her mouth.

“ This is so complicated and what is even more painful was that she was on her way to see me, I don't know why all this is happening," my boss said with a sigh.

Just then we heard a loud cry and when we turned, it was a lady walking towards us.

“ That's her daughter," the assistant said. I know this wasn't going to be good.

“ Mark, please tell me it's not true?" She asked as she walked to the man who was shaking his head not knowing what to say.

" She really is dead,” he whispered and immediately the girl was about to fall to the ground but we held her as the assistant drew her close, hugging her and consoling her.

“ I think we should leave," I said to my boss who stood there looking like she'd start crying very soon.

I squeezed the man's shoulder letting him know that everything would be alright before we walked away.

“ I just have this feeling, Hardin, I don't know why I'm having it but something tells me that something isn't right," my boss said as we walked out of the hospital.

“ What is that?" I asked.

" Let's get into the car,” she said and I nodded as I opened the car door for her and she got in then I turned around to the driver's side and got in.

" Look, Mrs Shawn is one of the richest woman I know, there's no way she would be driving a car that isn't well maintained, not to talk of driving a car that would fail brake,” she said and I nodded trying to make sense of her words.

“ It's unlikely that any of her cars would have any issue for any reason," I said and she nodded.

“ So you get me?" She asked and I nodded.

" Are you trying to say…"

“ That's what I'm trying to say," she said, stopping whatever I wanted to say.

“ Listen, I am very sure that someone messed with the brake or her car,” she said and I looked at her in confusion.

" Why would anyone want to do that?” I asked.

“ Two things, Hardin, but this can't just be a coincidence, she was supposed to meet with me right?" She asked and I nodded.

" This means that someone was trying to kill her or someone was trying to stop her from meeting me,” she said and I scrunch my brows deep in thought at her words.

“ Why would they want to stop her from seeing you? It was supposed to be a friendly lunch,” I said.

“ But just think about this Hardin, what if it was more? Just what if she had something to tell me? Something someone else knew about but didn't want me to know?” She asked.

For a moment I just remained silent as I let her words sink in. There were so many what ifs, but we didn't know which of them was true.

This is crazy, when we feel like we are going somewhere, something else comes up. Now what the hell was all this.

“ So do you have an idea of what she might have wanted to discuss with you, maybe a confession?” I asked but she shook her head.

“ I don't, this was supposed to be our first lunch together, it has always been with her and my grandpa." She said,

" If your hunch is true, who do you think might wanna do something like this?” I asked.

" I don't know Hardin but we're definitely going to find out who.”
