Chapter 15- Something is Fishy

I didn't make myself known, I just stood at a corner making sure they didn't see me. But from where I was I couldn't hear what they were saying but from their actions whatever they were talking about was serious.

What could he possibly be telling her? She looked pale, she's sick and should be asleep not out here in the cold.

Something was fishy and I had to find out what it was before it would become too late. I couldn't lose my mother too. What if he was threatening her?

They kept talking and each time I noticed my mother shaking her head and then Uncle Garry would take a step towards her and she would move back. The bastard was definitely threatening her but why wasn't she telling anyone about it?

I watched as Uncle Garry finally stormed away after yelling “we'll see about it” that was the only thing I caught in all the discussion they've been having.

What on earth could they have been talking about? My Mom remained on her spot as she looked down before she let out a sigh.

I contemplated revealing myself but I stopped because she might suspect that I've been here the whole time.

I watched as she started walking back to the house, looking like someone who had the weight of the whole world on her shoulders.

What could be bothering her? What could it be?

I continued my run hoping to clear my head on whatever thoughts were going through me.

I returned back to the house as I walked to the kitchen to take water then I walked to my mom's room.

I knocked on the door then I heard her quiet voice telling me to come in.

“ Mom you're up," I said as I walked to her and gave her a hug before I sat down beside her.

“ Yeah, I just got up," That was a lie. Why was my Mom lying to me?

“ How are you feeling?” I asked as my hand touched her cheek, she was cold because she just came from outside.

“ Did you sleep without your blanket you're so cold, you know how it has been in Las Vegas lately Mom," I said hoping that she would tell me she met with uncle Garry but she didn't.

“ I think I must have rolled over in my sleep and the blanket came off. I'm good, just turn on the room heater for me," She said and I nodded as I got up from her bed and went to turn on the heater.

“ Mom," I called and she looked up at me with a smile that warmed my heart. I couldn't let anything happen to her.

“ Are you sure you're really okay? You know if there's anything bothering you , you can talk to me, I'm your daughter," I said but she just shook her head with a smile.

“ I'm perfectly okay, don't I look okay? Do I look like I'm dying?" She asked and I didn't find that funny.

“ Mom, I love you, you know that right?" I asked as I walked back to her bed and got into bed with her. I remember when I was little, I liked getting into bed with my parents and they never complained, I was their only baby after all.

“ Of course I know you love me, where's this coming from?" She asked as she hugged me tightly. It's coming from the fact that your life might be in danger and you're not telling me. I thought to myself but didn't say it out loud.

“ Alright then, I'm going to hold you like this for a while before I remember I'm a grown ass woman who needs to get ready for work,” I said and she just chuckled as she dropped a kiss on my head.

“ You'll always be my baby, my only baby," She said and I just laughed.

I left her room after she fell asleep as I walked back to mine to get ready for work. I just can't imagine what time Uncle Garry asked her to come outside. I don't want to even think about that.

I walked into my room and headed straight for the bathroom. I took my toothbrush and brushed my teeth before I took off my running clothes and got into the shower.

I turned on the shower as the hot water rained down my body as I closed my eyes to get whatever disturbing thoughts that were bugging my mind.

When I was done with my shower I wrapped my body with a towel as I walked out of the bathroom.

I walked into my closet to get ready as I sat down to dry my hair first. When I was done with my hair and it was neatly styled I looked through my closet to get what to wear.

My eyes went to my tall mirror as I looked at the wound on my head, I would just have to cover it with my hair.

I decided on a red body fitting official dress and red shoes to go with then I decided to go with a black handbag.

But wait a minute, why wasn't my assistant here? Isn't he supposed to be here and then we go to the office because if I can remember clearly, I used to see him come here for my grandpa.

Whatever, he's the least of my worries.

I picked a single jewelry and my favorite bracelet for my wrist. I was good to go.

I wore my shoes as I took my bag and was about to step out of my closet but I stopped and quickly went to my perfume drawer, how could I forget that. I sprayed my favorite scent before I closed the drawer and continued on my way.

I got into my red Ferrari as I drove out of the mansion, I'll just have to order something for breakfast, not like I was feeling hungry especially with what I saw this morning.

I parked my car as I handed the car key to the valet and then walked into the company.

I was surprised to see my assistant standing just outside the elevator with a smile on his face like he was waiting for me. Did he hit his head?

“ Good morning Miss Miller, so nice to see you again, it's another day to be hardworking, I'll get that," he said as he collected my bag and then turned to the elevator as he pressed the button for it to open.

Should I be worried?

We went into the elevator and he pressed the elevator for our floor.

“ Hope you had a nice night's rest?" He asked and I narrowed my eyes on him. He was up to something, men like him don't suddenly change over night.

“ Mr. Smith, quit the drama, what are you up to? Spill now,"
