Chapter 49- Everyone Is A Suspect
I heard my boss scream my name from the airplane room and for a minute I thought the plane was about to crash.
I quickly removed my seatbelt as I rushed to the room. I opened the door and she was standing there with the jewelry boxes and I wonder what she was looking for.
She looked panicked like she came in here and there was a ghost.
“ What is the problem, Miss Miller?” I asked but she didn't answer. She just kept staring at the jewelry box she was holding. I was about to ask what the problem was when I noticed that the white box with the emerald eye was empty.
“ It's gone! It's gone!" She suddenly shouted like someone who had been poured a bucket of cold water.
“ What do you mean by that?" I asked her as I took the box to look at it and it was really empty. I remember packing all of them and they were all intact.
I took the other boxes and started checking them but the jewelry was all intact. It was just the emerald eye that was missing. The most expensive out of them all.
It was a special piece designed by Mr. Miller himself.
“ Mr Smith, where is the emerald eye?" My boss suddenly asked as she stood up looking at me.
I didn't like the look in her eyes one bit. She looked like she was about to accuse me.
“ I packed everything Miss Miller," I said, not knowing what else to say.
“ You did, but it's not here! It's not here! Where the fuck is the emerald eye?!” I didn't have the answer to the question because I packed everything. It's either someone stole it or switched the boxes.
" You're not saying anything Mr Smith! Say something!” She snapped.
" I don't know, okay! I packed the jewelry and everything was kept in the appropriate box, I don't know how one would be missing,”
" Not just anyone, my grandpa's special piece. What explanation do you have for that?!” I was getting angry, I could feel it.
This wasn't my fault but she was beginning to make it sound like I was incompetent and I hated that.
“ Miss Miller we're going to find it,"
“ Oh yeah, we're going to find it from up here in the sky, or how are we going to find it now?" She asked as she folded her hand looking at me.
“ We'll…”
" Mr Smith the last time I checked we were the only ones with access to those jewelry, how come they're now missing, the only people who can open these boxes are you and me, “ I knew she was thinking something like this but to hear her say it out loud made my inside boil.
" What are you insinuating?” I asked as I looked her square in the eyes.
" What do you want me to think? The emerald eye is missing and you stand in front of me to tell me you don't know where it is?” She asked.
" I understand your confusion Miss Miller but what I do not appreciate you accusing me of stealing,” I said.
The room fell silent before she turned away from me and ran her fingers through her hair. She looked frustrated.
“ Just go, get out!" She yelled.
I looked at the boxes before walking out of the room. I had to make some important calls because I knew there would be a lot of trouble if it turns out that the emerald eye was really missing. Not just from Ariana but from the entire Miller's family and that was the last thing I wanted.
I called the security of the hotel and asked for the last CCTV footage from our room, because they were all in my boss's room just in case someone was able to get into her room or mine.
They asked why I needed it and I told them it was for something very important but I didn't tell them what. They told me they would have it sent as soon as possible.
I just couldn't think of how something like that could happen, they were all securely locked then sent to her room. I packed them myself.
I felt frustrated at the situation.
Arrogant Ariana walked out of the room looking very angry as her eyes met mine before she sat down on her chair and fastened her seatbelt.
I didn't feel good about her calling me a thief, I hated that she would think of me that way. It just showed that she didn't respect me at all.
I sighed as I looked down in frustration.
*******
ARIANA'S POV
I've never been so frustrated in my life, I couldn't disappoint my grandpa, I was scared of disappointing him. It was taking everything in me not to cry. This was all a set up.
I didn't want to even think about it, my grandpa trusted me with his treasure and now it was missing. How do I tell him I didn't have the emerald eye?
I sighed as I looked outside and placed my head beside the window as I looked at the cloud. I suddenly felt like I was carrying the burden of the world on my shoulder.
I couldn't tell my grandpa about this, I had to find it as soon as possible but what is the guarantee that we would?
No we have to, I have to be positive.
We need to find it.
I felt a light shake on my shoulder and I slowly peeled my eyes open.
It was my assistant. He was the last person I wanted to be opening my eyes to.
I turned away from him with a frown because I wasn't happy to see him. He had some explaining to do, how can he say he doesn't know where the emerald eye is when he was in charge?
I removed my seatbelt as I slowly got up. I took my hand bag and sunglasses as I walked past him towards the exit of the plane.
I was just about to step outside when he stopped me.
“ Miss Miller, everybody, please wait, nobody is permitted to leave this plane,"
“ What are you doing Mr. Smith?" I asked as I turned to him in confusion just like everyone was looking at him.
“ We have to perform a security check before anyone can leave this plane," he said.
“ Then why did you stop me?" I asked, he can't seriously think I'll take the emerald eye.
“ I'm sorry but you also have to stay back, right now everyone is a suspect,"
“ What?!"
