Chapter 54- Missing
I picked the cane that was on the floor and stepped out of the door. This was the cane Ariana gave him for his early birth gift, why would it be laying on a restroom floor?
I was still looking at the cane when my phone started ringing.
It was my boss calling.
“ Miss Miller," I answered hoping she would tell me Mr Miller was back with them at the table.
“ Where's my grandpa, people are waiting, what's taking you so long to be back here with him, this is not the time to be discussing," she said.
“ He's not here Miss Miller, I've checked his room and now I'm in the hall restroom but he isn't here, I found his cane on the floor but no sign of him," I said.
“ What are you trying to say? You don't know where my grandpa is?" She asked as I heard the sound of a chair like she was standing up.
“ No, I tried calling his number and it kept going to voicemail, it's unavailable," I said.
“ Where are you right now?" She asked and I knew that she was already leaving the party.
“ I'm in the hall restroom," I said before I heard the call end.
I waited in the restroom as some of the guests walked in to use the restroom before walking out.
“ Mr Smith," I heard my boss's voice call from outside and I walked out still holding Mr Miller's cane.
“ Where did you find it?” She asked, referring to the cane I was holding.
" On the floor, I found it on the floor," I said and she shook her head like she couldn't believe what I was telling her before turning from me and walking away and I quickly followed her.
“ He's going to be in his room, I'm sure he just forgot it while using the restroom,” She said and we both walked into their house as she matched to her grandfather's room.
" Grandpa, it's me Ariana, I'm outside your door," she said as she knocked on the door but there was no response.
“ Why would grandpa want to lock himself inside when he has guests waiting for him?" she muttered to herself as she walked past me and I turned to look at her in confusion.
She just walked away without giving me any explanation. I used the opportunity to call Mr. Miller again and his number was still unavailable.
Some minutes later she walked back to the door holding a bunch of keys and then she opened Mr. Miller's room.
“ Grandpa!" She called but there was no answer from inside.
“ Mr. Smith check if he's in his bathroom," she said as she started tapping her feet in worry.
I quickly rushed to Mr Miller's bathroom but he wasn't there.
Where the hell did that old man go? It wouldn't surprise me if that old man decides to just walk away from all the noise to get some peace and quiet. He was a man who hated noise and enjoyed his own company.
But I don't think he'll just leave his cane lying around to make his family worried.
Something was not right.
“ He's not in his room, he's not picking his calls then where is he? Where are you grandpa? Stop making me worry." My boss said and was about to run her fingers through her hair but stopped herself.
" This is frustrating, “ she said.
" Mr Smith I'll go back to the party and tell everyone he retired to bed early just keep looking around for him, don't let anyone know about this,” she said and I nodded before she tried to fix her hair as she took deep breaths and walked out of the room.
What in God's name was going on?

ARIANA'S POV
I returned back to the party as I came to sit beside my mom.
“ Did you see him?" She asked as she moved her body to the music that the performers were singing.
“ Yeah, grandpa is so funny, he got tired and went to sleep," I said and she chuckled. I didn't want to tell her he was nowhere to be found.
What if he was somewhere in this mansion just having time for himself as he reflects on life?
My grandpa does that sometimes, he'd turn off his phone to have some time for himself.
But what is making me worried is that why would his cane be in the restroom and he was nowhere to be found?
Could he have forgotten it there? What if?
“ Are you okay honey?" My mom asked.
" Yeah, I'm just stressed, we should really call it a night, the celebrant isn't here after all,” I said.
" We can have fun on his behalf,” My mom said and I couldn't help but smile. She was having a good time.
I stayed seated on my seat but in my heart I wasn't in the damn hall.
I was searching everywhere for my grandpa, opening every damn door and screaming for my grandpa.
It was finally time for my grandpa to give his vote of thanks and he wasn't here so I had to go up on his behalf.
“ Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to thank everyone for coming out tonight. We cannot thank you enough. On behalf of my grandpa and the entire Miller's family we say thank you. My grandpa isn't here with us because he has been strictly warned not to stay up too late so he retired to bed. I hope you all understand, thank you once again,” I said before stepping down from the stage.
My mom was looking at me in confusion wondering what just happened. We all know if there's anyone who stays up late without a care in the world, it would be my grandpa.
“ What is going on Ariana?" My mom asked as my eyes went to uncle Garry who wasn't too far from us. I didn't want a snake like him to know what was happening.
“ Mom, can we talk about this when we leave the party," I said to my Mom.
" Just tell me cause I'm confused, where is your grandpa?” She asked.
“ I don't know Mom, I don't know where grandpa is,"
