Chapter 76- The Forgotten Memory

“ Harrison, I'm trying to understand everything you just told me but I've never been so confused in my life, I'm trying to go through my brain for that particular memory but I can't grasp on anything like that," I said with a shake of my head like I could suddenly shake awake that particular memory this young man was telling me and I wanted to remember.

“ I can totally understand why you won't remember anything, that man treated us so terribly, as I said, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. Your kind heart put me first without a second thought,” he said.

" But you remembered everything that happened, you didn't forget a single thing?” I asked and he shook his head.

" I told you earlier that I remember everything even though I was just eight, not a single thing left me, as much as I tried to forget some of the things he told me I still find myself remembering them, it's horrible, sometimes it's like a movie on replay, I've gone for therapy but that helped a little, I'm getting there,” he said and I suddenly wanted to walk around the table and hug him.

The young man sounded like he had been through a lot that his young mind couldn't bear.

I didn't want to push the young man further but I needed to know what happened, the reason I was like an angel to him.

“ I'm sorry Harrison, I know this might be hard for you, but I need you to tell me how I helped you,” I said.

" It was late at night when he usually locks us and go wherever he wanted, he doesn't tell us where to, not like he cares. We've already been planning for days on how to escape and that perfect night he left, you told me to stay calm and I believed you, I trusted you so much that night. When he left we tried to sneak out of the room he kept us in, it was hard because we were both chained, do you have it on your wrist, the marks?” He asked as I blinked.

How did he know about the marks I try so hard to hide with long sleeves? They weren't so obvious but I didn't like seeing them.

“ You do have them?" he asked and I nodded.

“ I do too," he said as he raised the sleeve of his shirt.

“ We were chained so we tried so hard to get out of the chains without the keys," He said. I still can't believe how young he was yet he still remembers every detail.

“ When we got free of those chains the pain made me unmovable, you encouraged me that we had to fight, so together we pushed as we opened the door and we were so happy, I couldn't wait to see my parents but our hope was crushed when we heard his voice, he didn't leave or he came back, I really don't know,” he said as he paused like he was recollecting something.

“ We quickly found somewhere to hide but it didn't take him long to notice that we were missing, he began angrily looking around for us, the look in his eyes was deadly, he looked like he would kill us if he had gotten a hold of us and what was worse was that we didn't know where we were or how to find our way out," He said.

“ But we eventually escaped him…what am I saying? Of course we did,” I said with a shake of my head. It suddenly felt like he was telling me a tale and I wasn't the main character.

“ Yeah, we did or we wouldn't be here, I don't really want to bring bad memories but I remember how you saved me. After hiding and hiding, trying to get away from him. If you can remember how he looked that night you would understand what I'm talking about, but it's a good thing you don't, that memory isn't worth remembering. You know we eventually found a place to escape from but you knew neither of us would make it out alive if we both went through that passage, so this were the words you told me ‘ go, make sure you fulfill your dreams and be the biggest jewelry designer the world has ever known, and I hope I meet you one day’ I could tell that you wanted to say ‘ if I was still alive’ but you didn't say it out cause you didn't want to scare me,” he said.

So all this happened but they're locked somewhere in my mind and I can't remember a damn thing.

" You told me to go through the passage and when I asked why you wouldn't come too you told me you would be behind me and you said if I didn't see you I should call for help. I ran just like you said but I was mad at you for some time, I wonder why the pretty lady would leave me all alone but as I grew older I began to understand why you did that, you were trying to distract him so he could have his entire attention on you and forget about me, you saved me,” he said.

It was so much to take in. Never knew there would be a day when someone would tell me something that happened in my own life and I knew nothing about it.

“ I…” I was short of words.

“ It's okay Miss Miller, you don't have to stress your brain, it's in the past and I just wanted to tell you what you did for me, I never got the chance to tell you thank you and I'm saying it now. Thank you Miss Ariana Miller," he said as he gave a light bow and I just watched him.

Now that he has narrated this story to me I know I wouldn't forget about it until I can remember everything that happened.

I just felt like I was a stranger in my own body as I watched someone tell me about my past, a past that was completely wiped off.

One way or the other, I'll awaken that memory, I need to remember what happened that night.
