Chapter 62- Keeping His Promise

I stopped my car as I quickly got out and without a second thought I jumped into the sea. The car was yet to sink so I could still see them.

With all the strength in me I swimmed as fast as I could towards the car.

The car was sinking fast.

I kept swimming as I watched the car completely go down but I didn't lose hope I continued swimming and I went down. The car lights were still on so it was easier to see.

Why the hell weren't they coming out, at least the driver should be okay.

I reached the car and I saw Ariana struggling with her seatbelt and I quickly rushed to her as I opened the car door and swimmed inside and then I helped her unbuckled it and she came free.

I looked at the driver who looked unconscious.

Ariana made a gesture pointing to her head as if she was saying the driver hit his head. I moved to him as I pushed him trying to wake him but he wasn't moving.

No, we didn't have time, we weren't fucking mermaids, we needed air.

I hit him hard and he jerked up as he opened his eyes and immediately kicked into action as he swimmed out of the car.

We all started swimming towards the shore.

I noticed that Ariana was slacking and then suddenly she stopped and it looked like she was struggling to breathe.

Hold on just a little longer.

I held her hand encouraging her to keep swimming but she pulled her hand from me as she pressed on her chest and I knew that if I didn't do something she was going to choke with salt water.

Without a second thought I drew her to me as I joined my lips with hers pushing air from my mouth into hers.

It's not a kiss, I'm just helping her. I don't kiss women, this doesn't count as a kiss.

I kept chanting in my head as my hand went around her waist so I wouldn't lose her.

When I was convinced that I'd given her enough air I pulled away without meeting her eyes as we both started swimming again.

In no time we reached shore. The driver was already there so he helped Ariana out and she fell on the ground in exhaustion breathing hard.

“ I almost died," she said before she broke into a fit of cough.

“ But you didn't," I said as I also tried to catch my breath. The water was fucking cold.

We got up from the floor as I stretched my hand for her and helped her up as we all climbed up to where my car was parked.

When we reached my car I opened the car boot and brought out the clothes I had there. I handed Ariana a jacket and then I gave one to the driver to cover himself.

I started the car as I drove off leaving the bridge that would have been a crossing point for two lives tonight.

I dropped the driver off at his residence first before I turned the car heading for Miller's mansion but my boss stopped me.

“ You have a spare room in your house right?” She asked.

" Yeah, why?” I asked.

" I don't think I want to go home, you could lend me a room for the night, if I go home my Mom would know something is wrong and I wouldn't be able to hold it in,” She explained and I nodded as I turned the car heading for my house instead.

Vera wasn't in the house, she'd be staying at Ronny's for the night, I was supposed to be with them too.

I drove into my garage as I parked the car and then stepped out as my boss stepped out too.

“ You're shaking, let's get you something warm to wear," I said as we walked out of the garage and I led her into my house.

“ You live here?" She asked and I turned to her before turning away.

“ Yeah, thought I lived in a shambles?" I asked with a raised brow.

" No, that's not it…it's…"

“ It's okay, you've been through enough for tonight to be thinking of explaining anything to me, follow me, let me show you the room," I said and she nodded before she followed me and then I opened the guest room for her.

“ The bathroom isn't hard to locate, I'll get you coffee and warm clothes while you shower," I said and she nodded as I turned to walk to the kitchen but her voice stopped me.

“ Mr Smith," she called and I stopped but didn't turn.

“ Thank you," he said.

“ My pleasure," I said before walking away.

I walked to Vera's room to check for any of her clothes that would fit Ariana, they have the same body structure but Vera has more flesh than Ariana.

She wouldn't mind me giving her clothes to Ariana. I took her gray sweatshirt and sweatpants as I walked back to the room Ariana was in.

I knocked on the door but didn't get any answer which meant she was still in the bathroom. I opened the door and walked in as I dropped the clothes on the bed before walking out.

I walked to the kitchen to get the coffee. I quickly made coffee, putting sugar and milk just how she likes it but would never open her mouth to tell me.

I walked back to the room as I knocked on the door and I heard her answer from inside as she walked to the door and opened it.

“ Coffee,” I said.

“ Thank you," she said as my eyes went to the clothes she was wearing. They didn't look bad.

“ My best friend," I said and she looked at me in confusion.

“ The clothes belong to my best friend, she stays here sometimes," I explained because I knew she was judging me but didn't know how to question me.

She must think the clothes belongs to one of my flints.

“ They're nice," she said and I just shrugged.

“ You should probably get some rest, call me if you need anything,” I said and she nodded.

I walked back to my room to get a much needed shower so I can get enough sleep, I felt emotional and physically drained.

When I was done with my shower I got dressed and quickly got into bed. God tonight was hectic, I can't believe I almost lost my boss. I soon fell asleep in exhaustion.

I was awoken by a sound as my eyes quickly opened. I scrunch my brows in confusion as I took my phone to check the time.

It was already far past midnight.

What's that?

It became quiet again and I tried to listen for any sound but there was nothing.

I tried to get comfortable again when a scream broke the silence of the night.
