Chapter 56- The Interrogation

I woke up early the next morning and rushed to my grandpa's room hoping that when I opened the door he's going to be there but when I opened it, there still wasn't any sign of him. I couldn't sleep last night because my mind wasn't at rest, no matter how hard I tried.

This was a confirmation that my grandpa was actually missing with no clue of where he was.

It was too early to start crying but I couldn't control myself as I walked to his bed and sat down then I balled my eyes out. Last night was a terrible night even though it was meant to be a good one and the way my head was banging was a confirmation of my lack of sleep.

I walked back to my room after crying to my satisfaction.

I stopped when I saw my assistant standing in front of my door about to knock. He slept here last night because we all stayed up late hoping my grandpa would show up but he didn't.

“ Is there something you want Mr Smith?" I asked as my eyes went to the tray he was holding. I'm hoping he wasn't trying to use this opportunity to poison me.

“ This is a Chinese tea, it's good for stress relief so I made it for you," he said as I looked at the tea before opening my room door to let him in.

He walked with the tray into my room as he went to drop it on the bedside table.

“ I'm not a tea person but I'll take it," I said as I walked to my bedside table and slowly took the teacup. I brought the cup to my lips as the smell hit my nose and surprisingly I liked it as the tea had a calming scent.

I took a sip and it was good.

“ The tea is good Mr Smith," I said.

“ Can you excuse me? I'd like to get ready to start my day," I said. I didn't shower, the first thing I did when I woke up was run to my grandfather's room.

" Alright Miss Miller, call me if you need anything," he said and I nodded before he turned away from me and walked out of the room.

Why was he being nice? Hopefully he didn't poison the tea.

I emptied the teacup before I dropped it back on my bedside table to go take a shower.

I removed the pajamas I had on as I got under the shower then turned on the hot water as the water rained down my body. For the first time water didn't seem like the cure to my stress.

I just wanted everything to be fixed.

HARDIN'S POV

I still couldn't believe what was happening, Mr Miller was still nowhere to be found.

We were currently waiting for the police to arrive because we just couldn't sit still and make assumptions that might all be wrong.

I don't see a reason why someone would disappear on his own birthday, this wasn't a matter of seeking solace because we've checked all the rooms in this house but yet we came up with nothing.

“ Good morning Mrs Miller, I came as soon as I heard,” the officer said as soon as he entered the sitting room as he shook Mrs Miller first before giving a light nod to my boss because she didn't look like she was in the mood to shake anyone.

“ Tell me everything, don't miss a single detail, tell me where you last saw him?" The officer asked.

“ He was sitting beside us when he suddenly told me he was going to use the restroom and would be right back, that was the last I saw him, when I didn't see him after some time I told Mr Smith to go look for him,” Mrs Miller said.

" You must be Mr Smith?” The officer turned to me and I nodded.

" Yeah that is me," I said.

“ Okay, tell me everything that happened?" he asked and I went ahead to narrate what I've been narrating to everyone since I found the cane in the restroom last night.

“ Okay, thank you, I'd like to talk to the other members of the family, where are they?" The officer asked and just on cue Mr Miller's daughter and her freak of a husband walked into the sitting room.

“ Were you guys planning on calling me if we didn't come here?" Celia asked, looking displeased that the officer was here and she wasn't.

“ It's okay honey, you're here now there's no need for the fuss,” Garry said as he squeezed her shoulder and she immediately calmed down.

You'd think he was a good man if you didn't really know him, we knew better.

“ I'm his daughter, Celia, please help me find my father," she said as she walked to the officer and shook him before she went to sit down on the empty couch.

“ So Mrs…” he left it for her.

" Miller,” she said. You know it's always expected for the woman to carry the w
man's family name but in this case it's the man carrying the woman's family name.

That's to show you how the Garry bastard likes the Miller's family things too much, even their name.

“ So when did you last talk to your father?" The officer asked.

“ Well, it was after I gave him his gift, he was talking to me about considering a vacation," she said.

" A vacation? Hmm...” the officer said, making a thinking gesture.

“ I know what you're thinking, officer but my grandpa wouldn't do that, he wouldn't just leave like that without informing anyone, he would know his family would be worried. He wouldn't do that,” My boss said with a shake of her head.

“ Then where could he possibly be?" The officer asked.

“ That's what we don't know, that's why we called you, because we don't know where he is, we don't," My boss said as she put her head in her hands in frustration.

“ Where and when did you last talk to Mr Miller?" The officer suddenly turned to Garry.

“ We were together to give him the gift," Celia said and the officer narrowed his eyes on her.

“ Mrs Miller, I'm sure he's capable of speaking for himself.” The officer said.

" I'm sorry officer,” She said.

" We were just talking,” Garry said.

" Talking? About what?” The officer asked .

“ I was trying to, you know, convince him to make one of our very good friends a partner in the company," he said.

“ You were talking about business on his birthday? Could this friend be Mr Louis?” My boss asked.

" Whom and what I discuss to him about isn't any of your business,” he said calmly to my boss.

" Well it is now, he's missing,” My boss said.

" Answer her question Mr,” The officer said.

" Yes,” he answered. So he was trying to convince Mr Miller on his birthday to partner with Mr Louis. This man is crazy.

“ Well, we would look at the CCTV cameras and then we'll be able to know what happened, thank you all for your information and cooperation,” the officer said, stopping whatever they wanted to say. He could smell a fight.

The officer left the room but I could feel the tension in the room hit the roof.

This was just the beginning.
