Chapter 174- The Chase

ARIANA'S POV

I watched as my number one nightmare wind up his glass window after passing me a promising look.

“ What's wrong?" Hardin asked as he followed my line of sight when he saw that I was looking at the car that hit us. He was about to step out of the car but I stopped him.

“ No! No, don't go," he turned to me in shock, surprised at my outburst.

“ Are you sure you're doing okay?” He asked and I nodded, my eyes still on the car that wasn't moving.

" I should talk to that person. Whatever that person is should know they're careless, we almost got into a serious accident,” Hardin said as he went to open the car door again but I stopped him.

“ No, forget about…forget about it we'll have the…car…the car checked.” I said, and he turned to me like he was going to say something but decided against it as he started the car and hit the road back. I looked through the side mirror to see that his car was still there, like he was giving us heads up.

Suddenly I saw the car start and then it started following us. Hardin noticed too.

“ What the fuck? Who the hell is following us?" He asked as he looked at the side mirror.

“Just keep driving," I said and he turned to me briefly with a questioning look but nevertheless he continued driving.

“ What is really going on? Do you know the person following us and why are you not calling the police?” He asked in confusion.

" Hardin, please just keep driving, don't let him catch up with us,” I said in panic.

Hardin didn't ask me any more questions, rather he focused on driving as he tried to lose the car that was after us but it was hot on our tail.

The car was getting closer, so Hardin increased the speed, passing the regular speed and I knew that it would soon attract the authorities.

“ Shit!" Hardin cursed when the car was driving just beside us.

I started hearing the blaring sound of sirens and I knew it had everything to do with the fact that we exceeded the normal speed limit.

The car that was following us took another route trying to run away from the police as Hardin had to pull over.

The police car stopped beside us as the officers came down asking us to get out of the car.

Hardin opened the car door and went out, and I did the same.

“ Officers, we're sorry but…but…someone was chasing after us, that's why we were on high speed,” I said as I tried to catch my breath looking around me like he would suddenly come out.

“ I don't know but there was this black car following behind us, it was crazy," Hardin said as both officers watched us.

“ You're coming with us to the station.”

" So you're saying the person that was in the car that was chasing you is someone who kidnapped you years ago?” he asked and I nodded as he wrote something down.

“ Are you sure about who you saw?" He asked and I nodded.

“ He's supposed to be in prison but he broke out and he's been walking around freely but they've not been able to get him,” I said.

I could feel Hardin's stare on me, earlier when we were being pursued, he had asked me if I knew the person but I didn't say anything.

“ We'll continue to look into this Miss Miller. In the meantime, if you notice anything suspicious, don't hesitate to call the police. And I suggest you get bodyguards,” he suggested.

I didn't really like the idea of getting bodyguards, but with the way things were going I'd have to consider it.

“ I'll think about it." I said.

“ It's very important," the officer said as I stood up shaking hands with him and Hardin did the same as he walked us out of his office.

“ Thank you officer." I said and he nodded before closing the door as Hardin and I quietly walked out of the police station.

“ When were you going to tell me?" Hardin asked and I turned to him not knowing what to say.

“ We had so much on our plate and I didn't think it was…”

" Important?” He said cutting me off.

" No, not that, I just didn't want it to bother me,” I said,

" Seriously? When are you going to realize that your safety is very important? You're the backbone of Miller's Cooperation and anything that happens to you will definitely affect the company.” He said, and I sighed as I looked down.

“ You're right, I'll be more careful," I said before he opened the car door for me and I got in then he turned around to the driver's side and got in.

I had to push all my meetings for later because I was too disoriented.

I was seated on my office chair as I swirled the pen around my finger, lost in my thoughts.

What did he want? Why did he come back?

I was brought out of my thoughts by a knock on my door as I composed myself before telling the person to come in.

“ Hardin," I said as he walked in, but before I could ask any questions,

Someone else walked in after him and my hands clenched.

“ What are you doing here?"
