Chapter 128- Watch Your Back

ARIANA'S POV

“ I'm sorry for your loss," I said to Mrs Shawn's daughter and husband who had a gloomy look as I handed her the flowers I got.

“ Miss Miller, I'll like to tell you something," she whispered to me when nobody was listening,

“ What is it?" I asked,

“ Not here, follow me," she said as she kissed her father's cheek before walking away and I followed.

I followed her until we were away from where people could easily hear us and then she stopped and turned to me,

“ What is it you want to tell me?" I asked,

“ I think the same people that kidnapped your grandfather are the same people that killed my Mom," she said, I haven't even told grandpa his close friend was dead, I'd have to wait him to recover before telling him,

“ You think?" I asked and she nodded,

“ You know how close my Mom and your grandpa were, I'm sure there was something she knew and was going to tell you, especially since you were still looking for him but they killed her to stop her, I don't believe my Mom had an accident, have you seen the car she had an accident with? It's not the type of car that could easily fail brakes, I'm scared of saying anything to the police so they wouldn't come for me," she said,

I had thought the same thing when I had first heard of her death but the thing was I didn't know why they'll kill her or what she wanted to say to me.

“ Do you have any idea what she wanted to tell me that would make them take her life?" I asked but she shook her head,

" I just remember my Mom telling me she wanted to meet with you and it was important, when I jokingly asked her how important because that day we were supposed to go shopping, she told me it was very important,” she said as she looked down trying to wipe away her tears,

" I'm sorry,” I said and she nodded before she used to handkerchief she was holding to wipe her tears and then she raised her head,

" My Mom didn't do anything wrong, she just wanted to help her friend, I don't know why something like this would happen to her, she was just trying to be a good person,” she sobbed and I moved closer to her and hugged her.

I couldn't even bring myself to ask her anymore questions, she was already going through a lot. I know that feeling, that feeling of never seeing your loved one again, that feeling of never hearing them laugh or seeing them smile. It was a painful feeling and I don't wish it on anyone.

“ It's going to be okay," I said and she nodded before pulling away,

“ Yeah, it will but this hurt will take time. I'm just going to warn you Miss Miller,..."

“ You know you can call me Ariana, we're almost age mates if you're not older," I said and she managed a small smile,

“ Ariana, I'm just going to say this, there are a lot of enemies, they're all after you, some of them are right in front of you and you don't even know, please be careful, they're getting more angry especially when you're doing good as the CEO when they expected that you'll carry your pretty pink nails and give up but you disappointed them," she said as she held my hand and squeezed,

" Watch your back Ariana they're everywhere,” She said and for a moment I couldn't help but scrunch my brows in confusion, did she know something I didn't?

“ Is there something I should know?" I asked and she chuckled shaking her head,

“ Can't you see? It's obvious, men don't like it when women are in control, it pisses them off, so they'll do anything to bring them down,” she said and I nodded in understanding,

" Thank you for your warning, I'll be leaving now," I said as I kissed her cheeks before walking away,

I saw Hardin talking to Mr Shawn as I walked to them. He had earlier stepped away to answer a call.

“ I'm sorry once again Mr Shawn, everything will be alright,” I said as I hugged him and he released a sigh,

“ Thank you so much for coming, do take care," he said and I nodded before we walked away,

“ Someone out there would be smiling thinking whatever secret he was trying to hide is safe by killing an innocent woman, they'll all pay dearly for all they've done," I said,

“ You're right, nothing can stay hidden forever," Hardin said,

“ Yeah, let's go, we've got things to take care of," I said as we both got into the car and drove off.

HARDIN'S POV

I couldn't describe the feeling I had when I saw Mrs Shawn's daughter crying, crying for the lost of a parent that must have loved her, although Mrs Shawn was dead I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy to everyone who had parents that have loved them in one way or the other,

I never knew my parents, I was raised in an orphanage with kids who didn't know their parents either.

Maybe they didn't want me or maybe they were dead. Were they really dead? What if I had parents out there that were alive and breathing not really caring if I existed or not.

I really shouldn't be thinking about people who might not exist.

I pushed that disturbing thought to the back of my mind as I focused on driving.

We were going to meet the diamond supplier and we had about ten minutes to get there before we'll be late,

He decided that he wanted to meet in a low-key coffee shop with less crowd so that was where I was driving to.

I stopped the car outside the coffee shop and we both stepped out of the car.

We walked into the coffee shop and I couldn't help but fall in love with the place, I haven't visited here before, I only had to look up a coffee shop with less crowd and I found it.

It has a homely feeling and a shelf with books for anyone who wanted to read while drinking coffee and that added to the allure of the place.

We were walking to a table when my eyes caught sight of something or rather someone and I turned as our eyes met and he was looking straight at me with a smirk.

Shit!
