Chapter 48- The Emerald Eye
I screamed in fear as I quickly got up but when I looked around he wasn't there.
“ Miss Miller, are you okay?" My assistant asked as he ran to my side.
I was confused, I could have sworn someone was looking down at me when I opened my eyes, how did he suddenly disappear. Was I going crazy or hallucinating?
I looked around me to check for any sign of him but I didn't see anyone. I came to the beach to have peace but I ended up having a bad dream.
“ Miss Miller," I heard my assistant voice, bringing me out of my thoughts.
“ It's nothing, I thought I felt something like a scorpion climb my body, I'm doing okay,” I said as his eyes went down my body like he was looking for the said scorpion.
" I said I'm fine,” I said not wanting his eyes to roam down my body. Speaking of body, it was now that my eyes could really comprehend what was in front of me.
He looked like he just came out from the ocean as his hair was wet and water dropped from his hair down to his shoulder and his stupid lashes. He didn't have a shirt and my eyes couldn't help but trace his body down to the line that was disappearing into his shorts.
Snap out of it Ariana! I cautioned myself as I quickly removed my eyes from him, turning to look at the bright sea that held many secrets just like my head.
I watched as my assistant walked to the sea before he jumped in to continue swimming.
I just sat back down on the blanket and without meaning to, I looked around again.
I'm just being paranoid, there's no way he would be here, he's in jail and he's going to be there for a lifetime. That's where he deserves to be after what he did to me and my family.
But this nagging feeling like someone was watching me wouldn't go away. Why the hell was I being paranoid? Do I have to remind my mind that he is in prison, just stop being scared.
I sigh because I knew I didn't want to be here anymore but I knew I couldn't stop other people from having fun just because of me.
My eyes suddenly went to the sea where my assistant was no longer in the water but rather he just sat on the beach floor as he looked lost in his thoughts.
I wonder what could be bothering him, not like I wanted to know but I didn't want him to make mistakes because of some personal issues, he shouldn't bring his problem here.
What am I even saying? I sound like an evil witch. Not like I wasn't.
I was still looking at him when I noticed one of the models walk to him and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
Why do these women keep disgracing sisterhood? Like what do they see in him?
He said something to her and she laughed and once again I couldn't help but roll my eyes. He might not have said something funny but she's still laughing to impress him.
Rather than staring at my assistant I decided to talk to someone that makes me feel better.
I took my phone out of my handcrafted bag as I opened it and then I went through my previous calls for my mom's number.
I dialed the number as I patiently waited for her to pick up.
It rang about three times before she finally picked up.
“ My favorite daughter," she said and I could tell she was smiling.
“ Mom, I'm your only daughter," I said with a laugh. Her only child actually.
" How are you doing?” She asked.
" I'm good, how about you? You feel better now right?” I asked.
" Yeah, I'm stronger, I should really consider a vacation,” She said.
" You will go for one eventually mom but right now I need you close to home where I can watch you and take good care of you,” I said and I heard her laugh.
" What's funny Mom?” I asked.
" It's nothing, It's just funny how you sound like the mom now,” she said and I couldn't help but laugh.
“ I'm just taking care of you Mom, if I don't take care of you who will?" I asked.
“ My darling is all grown up, I'm so proud of you," she said.
“ Uhm Mom, did Uncle Garry mention something about coming to Paris?" I asked and the line went silent for a second that I had to look at the screen but the call was still on.
“ Garry is in Paris?" She asked.
“ Yeah, you didn't know?" I asked.
“ Uhm he mentioned something like that, that he would like to support you in Paris, I didn't know he would go through with it," she was lying and I could easily tell, my Mom didn't know he was coming to Paris.
I still don't understand what was going on with my Mom and uncle Garry but at the right time I'll know.
“ Why do I hear the sound of waves?" She asked, trying to change the topic.
" I'm at the beach Mom,” I said, not wanting to upset her.
" Ow, look who is enjoying Paris,” she said.
By the time I ended the call with my mom I didn't know if I felt better or worse.
It was beginning to get cold at the beach so we decided to return back to our hotel.
Early next morning we were all seated in the plane ready to head back to Las Vegas. I had a good time in Paris and I know that I will be visiting soon again.
I don't know why I always feel so sleepy when traveling on air. I didn't want to cramp my neck so I decided to go to the small airplane room to get a nap.
I opened the room door as I walked in then I sat on the bed.
It feels good knowing that the first show I went to represent my company as the CEO went well, I just couldn't help but smile.
My grandpa worked hard for this company and I plan on doing better.
The urge to look at the beautiful jewelry that was displayed during the show was strong so I found myself getting up from bed as I went to the suitcase containing the jewelry.
I took the suitcase and opened it as I opened the red box containing the diamond necklace worth a fortune.
I opened the box and admired the beauty of the necklace before closing it then I opened the small box containing the bracelet specifically designed by my grandpa. His favorite was the emerald eye.
That's what he calls it.
My eyes went to the white box with the emerald eye as I slowly opened the box but when I finally lifted the cover, the box was empty with no emerald eye.
This is a joke.
I quickly started opening all the boxes but all other jewelry was there except the emerald eye.
“ Mr Smith!!"
