Chapter 51- Ignoring Him

" My baby, I missed you,” my mom said as she opened her arms for me and I gladly went into her warm embrace.

“ I missed you too Mom," I said as I held onto her tightly. For a moment I just soaked into her loving warmth again, wanting to be that little girl with no worry in the world.

She was my world.

I knew that until I found the emerald eye I would feel like the problem of the entire world was on my shoulder. How would I look at my grandpa?

“ What's wrong? Why do you look so dull?" My Mom asked. Blame it on mother's and their instinct, they just know when their child wasn't okay.

“ I'm okay, I'm just tired, when I get sleep I'll be kicking again," I said.

“ Alright honey," She said as she rubbed my cheek and I managed a smile before she walked with me to my room.

As we got to my room door she kissed my cheeks.

“ I'll leave you to get rest,” she said as she left my hand and walked away.

I opened my room door and walked in feeling lifeless.

I had to basically drag myself to the bathroom to get a warm shower so I would be able to sleep. When I was done I walked out of the bathroom as I walked into my closet to get dressed for the night.

I picked a black night gown and wore it as I tied my hair up before I walked to my bed, still feeling like the most relevant part of me was missing.

I climbed on my bed as I drew the blanket to cover my body. I did a quick prayer hoping that I would find the emerald eye one way or the other.

It was hard going to sleep but I eventually fell asleep.

“ Are you sure you're okay? You've been quiet and have barely said a word on this breakfast table, are you sure you're not hiding something from me?" My mom asked.

" Mom you're worrying for nothing, I'm sure you watched the show on TV and you know everything went well,” I said as I stretched my hand to hers.

" Leave the poor girl alone," my heart skipped as I heard my grandfather's voice.

“ Good morning grandpa," I greeted as my grandpa walked into the dining room and then he sat on the head chair.

“ Morning angel, how was your night?" He asked.

“ Good and yours?" I asked.

" Had a wonderful night especially when I know you did very wonderful in Paris,” my said and I managed a smile.

He didn't even know his jewel was missing. I wanted to tell my Mom but I was worried that words would get out.

It wasn't that I don't trust my Mom but there was just something in me telling me not tell her.

We had breakfast as my Mom and Grandpa kept asking me about Paris that I got tired I had to run back to my room.

Tomorrow was grandpa's birthday and there were a lot of things that needed to be taken care of.

I fell on my bed in exhaustion, it was just morning yet I was exhausted.

I heard my phone ringing and I picked it up to see it was my assistant calling me. I threw my phone on the bed, he was the last person I wanted to talk to right now, not after the rubbish he did to me.

The phone kept ringing but I ignored it.

To hell with him.

*******

HARDIN'S POV

I looked at my phone in anger before keeping it on the table.

“ She's not picking?" Ronny asked and I nodded my head.

“ Then just go ahead and do what you want, if she complains at least you did your best.” Vera said.

" I'm really done with that woman," I said as I ran my fingers through.

" It's okay, everything will be alright," Ronny said as he patted my shoulder.

I wanted to ask her if she was free so we could talk about how we can work together to look for the emerald eye but she wasn't picking.

I haven't told anyone about it except Vera.

I just couldn't tell any other person. It wasn't that I didn't trust Ronny but the fewer people that knew about it the better.

Tomorrow is Mr Miller's birthday and I wanted to make sure that everything will be perfect.

“ Guys, I'll be out for a while,” I said as I took my car key and walked out of the house.

I got into my car as I drove my Bugatti back to the company, I had insurance so I didn't have a problem.

When I parked the car I told them the problem before leaving.

I took a taxi as I told him to take me to the Miller's mansion, I wanted to see how things were going with the venue preparation.

The taxi stopped outside the mansion as I got down from the car and paid before I walked into the mansion.

The birthday would be held in one of the Miller's halls. I walked into the hall and the event planner already had everything under control.

I was looking around when my eyes suddenly caught sight of my boss. She was talking to one of the staff pointing at something. She looked casual in her bum short and tee shirt.

“ No, this would be fine, you know what, just do your thing, I just wanted to know how everything was doing. I'll just be out of your way now," she said. I wish she was always out of my way.

Her eyes suddenly met mine and her face hardened, yeah, that was the type of reaction I get from her whenever she sees me.

She didn't say anything, she just walked out of the hall.

This wasn't the first time I'm planning Mr Miller's birthday and I know that this time it would be nothing short of perfection.

“ Mr Smith you're here, thank you for always trusting me with the Miller's events,” Our event planner said and I just gave her a kind smile before looking at the hall one last time and then I walked out.

I noticed Garry Miller talking to a young man and the man seemed pretty attentive as he listened to what he was saying.

Then I watched as Garry handed something to the man, I couldn't see what it was, it could be anything. The man collected it and nodded his head, I couldn't even see who the man was. Garry was doing a good job at blocking him.

The man gave a final nod before he walked away and then Garry slowly turned to me with a smirk before walking off.

What was this fucker up to?
