Chapter 138- The Night Walkers
ARIANA'S POV
I stopped my car in front of the restaurant as I stepped out of the car and looked around. I just couldn't shake off the feeling that Hardin wasn't telling me the real identity of who his friend is.
I walked inside and I was led to a room as one of the staff opened the door for me and I walked in to see Hardin's friend already sitting on the chair waiting.
“ Well, what a surprise, I was honored when you decided to see me," he said with a chuckle and I could hear the underlying mockery in his voice,
“ I heard someone has been desperate to see me,” I said as he pulled a chair for me and I sat down,
" Why did you want to see me?" I asked as I rested my hands on the table looking up at him expectantly,
“ There are so many things your pretty little eyes can't see," he said and I raised my brows at him,
“ And your black scary eyes can see?" I asked and he chuckled,
“ You think I'm scary?" He asked,
“ Not to me but in general, you look scary," I said,
“ Interesting," he said and the room became quiet,
“ I'm sure you didn't call me here to look at my face, so why am I here?" I asked him and he just gave a dark chuckle,
“ Let's eat, order something," he said,
“ If you called me here just so we could eat I might as well go back to my office, I hate when people waste my time," I said and was about to stand up but his words stopped me,
“ They're going to come back from for him," he suddenly said and I turned to him in confusion,
“ What are you talking about?" I asked,
“ Your dear grandpa, they're going to come back for him," he said and I looked at him with my brows scrunched,
“ Be clear, what are you trying to say and what do you know about my grandpa?” I asked,
" That his past is back to look for him and if he isn't careful he'll be taken to a land of no return,” he said as he relaxed on his chair looking at me,
Who was this man really?
" Who are you? You're not Hardin's friend right? He lied to me,” I said,
" I am who you think I am,” was all he said,
" Will you stop going in circles and just tell me what I need to hear, what do you know that I don't?” I asked
“ Your grandpa was involved with some people years ago, far before you were born,” he said,
" And how come you know about this thing my grandpa was involved in?” I asked and he tapped the side of his head with his finger like he expected me to understand what he was trying to say.
“ Can you just be direct? You're making me ask so many questions and yet you're providing answer to none,” I said,
" There's a gang called the Night Walkers; years ago they made a deal with your grandpa that they would help him in return that he would help them, the thing was that your grandpa was known for always carrying a shipment filled with precious stones and diamonds for his work but each time he was robbed, whether on sea or land. So for protection he went to the Night Walkers and from then henceforth he stopped getting robbed. But he suddenly cut off all ties with them when he became powerful enough to protect himself and that made them mad, very mad. That's why they won't stop until they make him pay.” he said,
I couldn't speak for a minute as I tried to comprehend his words. How did he know about all this?
“ How come you know so much about my grandpa? Just tell me who you are, you're telling me something about my grandpa that I've never heard anywhere before and I don't know you, I don't know if what you're saying is the truth,” I said,
“ Why don't you go ahead and ask him," he said,
Ask my grandpa? Would he tell me about the gang? What if all he's telling me is just made up?
“ So this gang you're talking about, since my grandpa is old shouldn't whoever he made this deal with be old also or something? Why come back now after how many years?" I asked,
“ You're right, a deal might be old and whoever made the deal but a grudge is never old, it's could be past down to sons after sons," he said,
" It doesn't make sense,” I said,
" It does,” he said with a shrug,
" Your grandpa made a mistake and they're not going to rest until they make him pay," he said,
“ But he didn't do anything, all he did was cut ties with a gang that could have put him in trouble, if he had continued with them maybe they would have thought he's into smuggling of diamonds,” I said and he chuckled,
" You're so young you wouldn't know,” he said and for some reason I felt offended,
" You act like you're so old and you know so much, are you a vampire or something?” I asked with a hint of anger,
“ You never know," he said,
“ Why are you so interested in my grandpa's case? Why did you decide to tell me this?” I asked,
" That's for me to worry about?" he said,
“ But that doesn't answer the question, just give me a straight answer,” I said,
" Do you want to order or should I order something for us?” he asked and I just watched him as so many thoughts went through my head,
“ I'm not hungry, thank you for telling me everything," I said as I stood up and he just watched me calmly,
I was about to walk to the door when I stopped and dipped my hand into my purse and brought out my card as I dropped it on the table.
“ Just in case you decide there's more you want to tell me rather than going through my assistant like a desperate fan. Do have a nice day," I said before walking out of the room.
I had just one question on my mind as I walked out of the restaurant.
Why were they coming back now?
