Chapter 167- Facing The Mountain
ARIANA'S POV
I couldn't move, I immediately felt like I was frozen in time. Did I see well or was my mind messing with me? It couldn't be him right? But even as I thought about it I knew I couldn't deceive myself of who I had just seen, it was him and he was walking the streets of Las Vegas freely when he was supposed to be behind bars.
“ Miss Miller, Miss Miller," I heard my name and I jerked, immediately coming out of my thoughts,
“ Are you okay? You've been lost, I kept calling your name but you wouldn't answer," Hardin said and I nodded before shaking my head, I really didn't know what was wrong with me exactly.
“ I'm sorry, I thought I saw someone, let's go back to the office please,” I said as he started the car, I couldn't help but look at the mirror just in case he was still there.
Hardin drove out of the cafe but the feeling of seeing that man still lingered in my mind, it's not everyday you see your nightmare walking around freely on the street.
“ Are you sure you're okay? You look like you've seen a ghost, and your face kinda looks pale," Hardin said but I shook my head.
“ I'm fine, wait, stop the car please," I said and Hardin turned to me in confusion but nevertheless he stopped the car.
I didn't waste time, I opened the car door and rushed out of the car as I gasped for air. Breathe Ariana, that motherfucker can't do anything to you. I said in my head remembering what my therapist talked to me about.
I couldn't let my fear consume me, he was just a human like every other person and I couldn't be scared of him. I could feel Hardin standing behind me. I knew he had questions but he was giving me the space I needed.
I took deep breaths before I turned to him.
“ Do you feel better now?” He asked and I managed a smile.
" Take me to Scar,” I suddenly said out of nowhere, I was definitely giving a lot of surprises today.
One minute I'm acting like a broken girl the next I'm asking to go see the most feared man in the city. Something was definitely wrong with my head. My grandpa gave his warning but nobody said I had to listen to him. I couldn't act like a child who was being shielded from the hard reality of this world, I needed to know the world isn't a bed of roses and I needed to accept that.
" I didn't hear you well, right?” Hardin asked, looking at me like I've gone crazy.
“ You heard me, since the mountain has refused to come to me, I'll go to the mountain," I said with no trace of a joke on my face. It was high time I took care of the emerald eye case once and for all.
“ You're not being serious, do you know how dangerous that place can be? What if they bring out their guns and point at us, what are we going to do?" he asked me in worry.
" We're going to figure something out,” I said,
" Figure what? You don't figure things out in the face of death, so what you're planning is not going to work.” He said but I shook my head,
" I really need to do this, I've made up my mind and nothing is going to stop me, absolutely nothing,” I said with determination,
" So it's better you take me to him or I'll look for a way there myself,” I said. From the look on his face I knew that he didn't like what I was saying, not even a single bit.
" You don't seem to understand what you want to walk yourself into, Scar is a very dangerous man and shouldn't be crossed, it's going to be like willingly walking into danger,” he said,
" If you can remember clearly, I was in a room with him and he didn't do anything to me,” I said,
" But… but that was different," he said trying to convince me to change my decision but I had already made my decision, I am ready to take the bull by the horn.
“ What would I tell your family if anything happens to you? You really don't know how dangerous Scar is, do you?" He asked and I just shrugged.
" I'm still going to say it again that I was alone with him and he did nothing to me,” I said,
" Back then he wasn't in possession of something you need from him, what do you think will happen if he finds out you're trying to take something he spent a lot of money on?” Hardin asked,
“ Why don't we find out,” I said and with the way Hardin was looking at me it was like he wanted to hold my head and bang it on the wall so some sense would be knocked into me but I didn't need that, I was in my right senses and where I needed to be is where Scar is right now.
“ Take me to him," I said,
“ Miss Miller, you really need to rethink this, we can handle this another way, that man is a very corny man, he's going to surprise you in ways you'd never imagine, you wouldn't believe he was the same man you sat down in a room with, believe me when I tell you that when it comes to money Scar is a whole new person,” he said,
" My mind's made up, let's go,” I said and before he could say any more words, I opened the car door and got inside as I waited for him to enter the car.
He sighed before he finally turned around as he opened the car door and got in then he turned to look at me.
“ Are you sure about this?" He asked and I didn't think twice before I gave him my response.
“ Yes I'm sure, there's nothing stopping me,” I said adamantly as I kept my eyes forward, already prepared for what was to come.
“ So be it,"
