Chapter 160- The Real Story

ARIANA'S POV

The car stopped in front of the house and I sighed as I turned to Hardin.

“ I'm sorry about what happened at the office earlier today, it's not going to happen again, okay I know I shouldn't have done that but I've apologized,” I said,

" Miss Miller, there's no need to apologize,” he said,

" There you go again calling me Miss Miller," I said,

“ You're Miss Miller aren't you?" he asked as he looked at me,

“ I am but we agreed you'd call me Miss Miller only when we are in public or at the office and right now we're not in the office," I said,

Okay, I know what I did was wrong, I've accused him several times of stealing from the company back then when we used to be on each other's neck. So he must feel really bad that I'm insinuating that he must have had a hand in the emerald eye.

“ Should I be sincere with you Miss Miller," I sighed when he still called me Miss Miller, he was that angry.

“ Yes please," I said,

" Truth be told, if I do sign that contract I wouldn't be working for you anymore, I work for several years with Mr Miller but never a day did he doubt me because I proved myself to him but you when I try to prove myself to you by putting the company it turns you still don't trust me and I don't feel comfortable in that type of work environment,” he said, I couldn't help but feel my heart clench at his words.

Was I that much of a bad person?

“ Hardin, I didn't mean to make you feel that way, I'm sorry okay,” I said and he sighed,

" It's going to take more than ‘ I'm sorry to fix this,’ because I know you Miss Miller, once you doubt someone you will always find a fault even if you don't say it,” he said,

" You don't know me Hardin and you're taking this too far,” I said beginning to get angry and his response was to chuckle,

" Miss Miller I had a very tiring day at the office, I need to rest,” he said and I knew he was indirectly telling me to get down from his car.

I didn't expect it'd turn out like this, he's taking it way too far, okay I accept that I'm wrong but everyone makes mistakes especially when they're angry.

“ Miss Miller," he called impatiently,

“ Hardin, seriously? You're acting like a child right now," I said and he just gave a dark laugh,

“ I've got a lot of things going on in my head right now and all I need is to lay my head, please," he said and in anger I opened the car door and stepped out of the and made sure to close the door as loud as I could.

He could go jump into the ocean for all I cared.

I watched as he started the car and drove off.

I've said sorry, what else did he want from me, how many bosses apologize several times when they're at fault.

I sighed as I walked into the house. I was surprised to see that there was someone still awake in the sitting room. It was pretty late, I expected that everyone would be asleep.

I walked to the sitting room surprised to find my grandpa there.

“ Grandpa, you're still up?" I asked as he turned to me.

“ Oh, honey you're back," he said as he looked at me with a smile and I walked to him as I sat beside him on the couch.

“ How was work today?" he asked as I removed my shoes,

“ Tiring but worth it," I said and he chuckled,

“ It's always worth it, but you sure look like you have something bothering you," he said,

" Nothing really, why?” I asked,

" I'm your grandpa and I know when something is bothering you, you want to talk about it?” he asked,

“ It's really okay, I'm just stressed," I said,

“ If you say so," he said and it suddenly became quiet,

“ Grandpa, there's something I'd like to ask you," I said,

“ What is that? You know you can ask me anything," he said as he took my hand and dropped a kiss on it and somehow that loosened the tension on my shoulders. My grandpa was so sweet.

“ There's something I just found out of recent and I don't want you to lie about it to me because this is very important for the safety of every Miller, so grandpa please tell me the truth,” I said and he chuckled,

“ You haven't even asked me any question and you already think I'll lie to you?" he asked and I just sighed, there was a possibility he wouldn't want to tell me the truth for my own safety but I was far into it to pull back.

" Grandpa, tell me everything that happened between you and the Night Walkers,” I said as he looked at me in shock,

" How…how… how did you know about that?" he asked me,

“ Grandpa, you don't think I'll just forget about the fact that you were kidnapped from your own home? I know that being the CEO comes with a lot of responsibilities and burdens and to protect my family and the people around me I have to know everything that happened whether the good or bad,” I said and he sighed as he held my hand tightly like the next part was hard for him to say.

" I was young and scared Ariana, they offered to help me, I was happy because being under their protection stopped the misfortune that was happening to me back then,” he stopped as he closed his eyes and rubbed his face.

“ I never knew they it was something I could get into but couldn't get out of, they were mad when I wanted to cut off ties with them, they thought I used them and when I got powerful I wanted nothing to do with them. Ariana I had to cut off ties with them sooner or later, I was trying to grow and if the police found out I had connections with them whether for good or bad that would have been bad for my business,” he explained,

" I understand grandpa,” I said but he shook his head,

" You don't, cutting off with them isn't why they're angry, there's something more," he said with sigh,

“ There's more?"

“ Yes Ariana, there's more, the reason why they're so unforgiving,"
