Chapter 55- Her Tears

" What is going on Ariana, where's your grandfather?" My mom asked as I paced the sitting room, my head filled with so many thoughts.

I have never been so confused, first my grandfather's jewelry piece was missing and now my grandfather was missing.

“ Mom, ask Mr Smith okay, I'm not thinking straight right now please," I said with a sigh before going to sit on the couch.

The moment I told my Mom I didn't know where my grandpa was she thought I was joking or something. She didn't take me seriously, not until all our guests were gone and she asked me the same question and I gave her the same answer did she realize that I wasn't joking.

Even at that she kept asking me where he was like I knew where he was and was refusing to tell her.

“ Mr Smith, please what happened?” She asked as she turned to my assistant.

" When I was asked to go find him, I came to his room first but I didn't see him. Then I went to check the restroom in the hall, I found his cane but didn't see him and that brings us to now,” he explained.

“ I'm just sick of this right now, where could he be? I've asked the security to check the entire mansion and there's no sign of him, then where is he?" I said as I rubbed my forehead.

" Honey, we're going to find him,” she said as she rushed to sit beside me. I felt like she was trying to convince herself more.

“ You know your grandfather is full of surprises, for all we know he might just be in his secret room having his alone time and we're here worrying for nothing," she said as she hugged me.

“ I know grandpa, he wouldn't just disappear like that and leave everyone worried, I don't think he's going to do that on such an important day like his birthday when everyone came out to celebrate him, he was happy to be there," I said.

" Ariana, where's your grandfather, where's my Dad?” Oh God, I totally forgot about them. I turned to her before turning back to my mom. I didn't know whether I wanted to tell her the truth or a lie, especially with her husband standing beside her.

But she had the right to know he is her father.

“ I don't know aunty, we've been looking for him but we don't know where he is," I said.

“ What do you guys mean by that? He was just at the party. Why would he suddenly disappear?" She asked, looking confused.

" And you guys are doing such a wonderful job looking for him by sitting here,” uncle Garry said as I narrowed my eyes on him.

" Why don't you go look for him? Let's see how much of a detective you can be,”

" Ariana, don't talk to your uncle like that,” my Mom and Aunty said at the same time. I didn't like that man one bit and now wasn't a good time to scold me. I was angry and I could pass my anger on anybody.

Instead of sitting here and looking at their faces as they all looked at me like I knew something and wasn't telling them I stood up from the couch as I excused them and walked out of the sitting room.

“ Ariana," I heard my mom call.

" Not now Mom, I need to think,” I said.

I didn't want anything to happen to my grandfather especially on his birthday, he just deserves the best and nothing less.

I walked out of the house as the cold night air hit my face and then I felt the first set of tears roll down my eyes.

I was strong, I can handle this without crying, I don't need to cry. I kept chanting in my head but the stupid tears wouldn't stop falling. It was like everything I've been holding in since the disappearance of the emerald eye just came crashing on me.

I took deep breaths as I tried to push back the tears.

I quickly wiped my tears when I heard footsteps as I tried to appear like I haven't been crying.

“ Miss Miller," it was my assistant.

" Is there something you need Mr Smith?” I asked but what followed was his hand stretched with a handkerchief.

He saw me crying.

“ I'm good, I don't need it," I said, refusing to take the handkerchief. I used my hand to wipe my face again not wanting to cry in front of my assistant and appear weak.

Instead of saying anything, he just put the handkerchief in my palm and closed it.

“ I'm your assistant right? It's my job to take care of you," he said.

I don't know but I felt like more words followed, like him saying; ‘ even if you're a bitch sometimes,’ and I couldn't help but laugh.

“ Did I say something funny, Miss Miller?" He asked, looking genuinely confused.

“ No, it's nothing," I said with a shake of my head.

I was suddenly clouded with sadness again when I realized I didn't know where my grandpa was.

“ We're going to find him," My assistant said. Right now he didn't seem like that annoying assistant who I wish to disappear from the face of the earth, rather, he looked like a human being just comforting another human being.

My grandpa is a strong man and has worked so hard to build his empire and that made him have many enemies and rivals. Both in business and as an individual.

But my question now is if it turns out that my grandpa was kidnapped. How was it possible because the party was strictly by invitation. Which means someone on the invitation list took him or helped in someone that took him.

I don't know, my head was beginning to ache from too much thinking. I was thinking of all the possibilities.

Because I knew our mansion was heavily guarded with security, how could anything just escape us without a single clue?

Whatever has happened to my grandpa, someone around us knows about it and I'm to find out who.

One way or the other.
