Chapter 117- Innocent Snake

I turned to her looking at her expectantly, thinking she might have remembered something.

“ What is it?" I asked,

“ It's nothing, I just think you should handover the case to the police instead of handling it yourself," she said and I scrunch my brows in confusion, I don't remember telling her about anything.

“ Uhm okay,” I simply said before we walked away,

" I don't like that woman, she's acting like an innocent snake which isn't possible, a snake cannot be innocent,” I said as we walked out of the coffee shop and to our car and then Hardin opened the door as I got in and then he followed.

“ To the airport," I said to the driver and he started the car and drove off,

I was hoping that we'd finish whatever it is we wanted to do in Chicago and be back by Tuesday.

I had a board meeting on Wednesday.

The drive to the airport was quiet as I turned to Hardin who looked lost in thought.

“ Hardin, are you okay?" I decided to ask,

" Yeah,” he said and I didn't push further,

We were currently sitting in the plane on our way to Chicago and yet my assistant was still quiet as he busied himself with work.

I brought out my tablet to get some things done but eyes kept glancing at him.

Whatever it is that's going on with him shouldn't concern me as long as it's not interfering with work.

After almost four hours of sitting in a plane we finally reached Chicago as I stretched with a groan before I unfastened my seatbelt.

I stood up and my eyes went to Hardin to see that he was asleep, he looked tired.

I walked to him and was about to wake him when my eyes caught sight of his phone screen, it was open and it had the picture of the model from earlier.

Why was he looking at her picture? Of course he wanted to get information concerning her.

“ Hardin," I whispered as I tapped him on the shoulder but he didn't wake, I tapped him for the second time when without warning he held me by the waist and I found myself in his laps as my eyes went wide.

He was doing this in his sleep.

“ Hardin," I called trying to pull away but his hand only tightened,

“ Just a little longer, let's stay this way just a little longer," he muttered in his sleep as he scrunched his eyebrows.

What was going through this man's head?

“ Hardin we have to go, we have things to take care of," I said, not even bothering about getting up from his laps with his tight grip.

“ Not yet, just a little Claudia," I froze as I turned to him,

Did he just say the name Claudia in his sleep?

Something wasn't adding up because there was something he wasn't telling me.

I forcefully pulled myself from him and he jerked awake.

“Miss Miller," he said and he looked at me with tired and sleepy eyes,

“ We're in Chicago," I said and she looked around like he was in a dream.

“ Oh,” he said before he stood up and then we both walked out of the jet with him holding our bags,

We got into a car and the driver started the car as he drove us to the hotel we'll be staying.

We got into the hotel as Hardin collected our key cards and we got into the elevator as he pressed the button for our floor.

He handed my key card to me when we walked out of the elevator as I walked to mine while he walked to his own room.

Something was definitely up with him but I guess it's his personal life or he would have told me.

I opened my room door and got in closing it behind me, I didn't have anything to be stolen this time but I didn't want any funny business,

I brought out my phone from my purse as I called Sasha to check up on her.

It rang several times but she didn't pick it up and I guess she must be sleeping.

I called my Mom to check up on them and she told me that they were fine which was a relief because leaving my family at such a crucial time was bothering me.

I walked to the shower as I had a quick shower then I got changed.

I was sitting on my bed when I heard a knock and it felt like it was coming from the wall.

I stood up as I walked to where the sound was coming from as I noticed a door I hadn't noticed earlier then I opened the door,

“ Hardin," I said,

“ I just wanted to tell you there was a door linking our rooms incase you needed anything," he said,

" Oh, I didn't notice,” I said truthfully,

“ Yeah , alright I'm going back to my room," he said as he closed the door,

That was a weird conversation.

If he continues like this I might have to ask him what the problem is.

HARDIN'S POV

Whenever I see her it ruins my mood, I just couldn't control the feeling.

Did I really wait for her? I remember when I had run out of that coffee shop after a woman I thought was her.

But now that she was right in front of me I wanted to stay as far away from her as possible.

And you know what was really annoying? The fact that she really wants to talk to me like she didn't suddenly disappear out of my life without any word and she's back like she went to take a walk in a park.

“ I fucking hate myself for feeling this way," I groaned as I fell on the bed,

Now that I was in Chicago I'm hoping whoever that person was that was distributing notes wouldn't start playing their silly games again,

I had someone watching Vera for protection, she didn't know, I made sure of that and I told the guy to make sure she doesn't see him, she was going to get paranoid and think someone was following her.

I sent her a message telling her I arrived in Chicago safely.

After that I just laid on the bed looking at the ceiling,

I know that my boss was suspecting something from the way she looked between Claudia and I.

I just couldn't bring myself to tell her about our relationship, aside from the fact that I'll look stupid, it felt too personal to share.

But I'd have to tell her something even if it wasn't the whole truth because I don't know what I'll do if she starts suspecting that I have a hand in the disappearance of the Emerald eye.

I knew that I'd be royally screwed.
