Chapter 71- Mysteries
I opened the door and walked out of the bathroom with a sigh before walking to my closet to get dressed for the night.
I picked my red pajamas, choosing to wear pajamas instead of a night gown.
When I was done I walked out of the closet as I climbed on my bed to rest for the night. I drew the blanket up my body as I willed myself to sleep.
Sleep wasn't coming and I knew why. Anytime my mind takes me back to seven years ago it's always hard to find sleep.
I knew that sleep was going to be hard so I decided to go do some investigation of my own.
I walked to my door and opened it as I walked out of my room then closed the door behind me.
I felt like there was something I would find in my grandpa's room that the officer's might have missed.
The house was quiet which meant everyone was asleep so I was careful with my steps so I do not disturb anyone's sleep.
The moment I reached my grandpa's door my earlier assumption that everyone must be sleeping was proven wrong because I immediately knew that there was someone in his room.
My heart jumped thinking it must be him but I stopped myself because what if it wasn't? My hope would be for nothing.
He wouldn't just disappear and appear like that.
Who could be in his room by this time? What if it was someone that has something to do with his disappearance? Should I just go to my room or enter his room?
What if the answer we need was inside this room and at the same time what if the person inside the room was someone dangerous?
What the heck was wrong with me? I was going through all this mental stress just to decide whether I wanted to open a door and walk in.
Without thinking too much of it I opened the door and walked in.
“ Mom?" I asked in shock as I saw my mom going through things in my grandpa's drawer like she was looking for something. She turned to me in shock, not expecting that I'll be up by now. I didn't expect her to be up either.
“ What are you doing Mom?" I asked as I looked at the drawer that was opened.
That is grandpa's drawer that can't be opened except by himself because he was the only one with the key. Then how did she get a hold of it and why would she open it?
“ I…I…I was just looking for anything that could help us find him,” she said as my eyes went to the papers she was holding but she covered them with her hands.
Okay, my mother was beginning to act strange and it was beginning to bother me.
I pretended like I didn't know that the drawer she just opened wasn't supposed to be opened by anyone so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
“ Mom, the police are taking care of this and you don't have to stress yourself with anything, what you're supposed to be doing right now is getting enough sleep, you're stressing yourself Mom," I said and was about to take the papers she was holding but she quickly put them back into the drawer and closed it.
“ You're right I should really rest now, let's go," she said as her eyes went to the drawer before she turned to me with a smile and then she took my hand as we both walked out of the room.
She closed the door and then walked me to my door like she was making sure I really got to my room.
I kissed her good night before I watched her walk away. I opened my room door and got in although there was something telling me to go back to my grandpa's room but I stopped myself.
I walked back to bed as so many confusing thoughts filled my head. What was my mom trying to hide and what was she really doing in grandpa's room?
Not wanting to think about it too much I climbed on my bed and forced myself to go to sleep.
There were so many mysteries to uncover and I didn't even know where to start from.

HARDIN'S POV
“ Come on Hardin, it's just for today, I'm your best friend remember?" Vera asked like she doesn't already torture me enough with that fact.
“ I know and my answer is still no," I said as I sipped my coffee while going through my emails. My eyes went to her face and she had a pout on her lips and I almost smiled. Note; almost.
“ Come on, you know you have to…” she stopped what she was going to say and my eyes went to her face to see her covered with sadness and she looked like she was about to cry.
“ What is it this time?" I asked with a groan and without warning she started crying.
“ Come on Vera, you can use the Bentley, use it," I said but she shook her head.
“ That's not it, I can't believe I would have lost you to the ocean," she said as her hand went to clean her tears and I got up from where I was sitting and walked to her.
She was like this last night, after narrating everything that happened she wouldn't stop crying, she wouldn't stop thinking of the what ifs even when I kept telling her I was right in front of her and nothing happened to me
I brought her into a hug as I kissed her forehead.
“ I'm doing okay, should I compose a song with it before you believe that I'm doing okay?" I asked and she shook her head and I couldn't help but laugh.
“ So can I use the Bentley?" She asked and I chuckled before pulling away from the hug.
“ Yeah, do whatever you want,"
" Thank you.” She said with a smile as I handed her the key.
“ I need to call George to…” she stopped as she looked at her phone screen then turned to me in shock.
“ Hardin, you need to see this,"
