Chapter 109 It's Too Late
Barbara kicked the door open. "Are you all crazy? You're committing a crime!"
As Barbara's voice fell, Lilith, Mary, and Gilda's faces changed.
Barbara stormed angrily in front of Gilda. "Are you still a mother? You heard what they want to do to your daughter, and you didn't say a word! Have you lost your conscience?"
Gilda turned her face awkwardly and stammered, "I... I didn't know about their plan. I haven't even had a chance to speak, and you came in!"
Barbara glared at her mother. "I'm disappointed in you!"
After saying that, she walked straight towards her phone, picked it up, and dialed Queenie's number.
Mary Green gave a signal to Lilith.
Lilith made a firm decision. She walked over to snatch Barbara's phone and hung up.
"Mama!" Barbara exclaimed in shock. "Give me back my phone. Otherwise, something terrible will happen!"
Lilith held the phone and stepped back. "Barbara, you can't afford to be merciful when it comes to major events! Trust your mama, you will be grateful to her in the future. Everything Mama has done is for you and your brother!"
"You're insane, truly insane!" Barbara stamped her foot in frustration. "You're not doing all this for me and my brother, you're doing it for yourself!"
Saying that, Barbara tried to grab the phone.
With a signal from Mary Green, the bodyguard stepped forward and restrained Barbara's hand.
Barbara screamed, "Let me go! Let go of me... if you don't let me go... it will be too late! Mama, don't make me hate you!"
Barbara struggled desperately, but she was held tightly.
Her heart grew colder inch by inch.
...
Outside, the rain grew heavier.
Queenie's clothes were drenched, clinging to her bone-piercing cold skin.
But this coldness was nothing compared to the chilling feeling in her heart.
As she walked, Queenie didn't know where she had ended up. When she focused, she realized she had come to the dead end of an alley.
She turned around to go back, but a few hooligans blocked her way.
Queenie's heart skipped a beat as a malicious whistle blew behind her, blocking the entrance to the alley. She trembled with fear when she realized there was no way out.
"Girl, you've got a nice figure. Today, my brothers and I are gonna enjoy ourselves!" one of the men said with a lewd voice.
"Bro, I've never had a teacher before. Just thinking about it excites me," another man added.
The obscene voices reached Queenie's ears one sentence at a time. She took a step back, desperately searching for something to defend herself. "You...you want money? I can give you money. All of it, as long as you spare me!" she pleaded.
"We don't want money, we want you!" The leader of the men approached Queenie.
She looked around, hoping for something to protect herself, but to her dismay, the alley was empty. There wasn’t even a stick she could use to protect herself.
Gilda's curse echoed in her mind again. "You'll never have good luck in your life! You'll always be unlucky, destined to be alone until death!"
Queenie trembled once more. Was this really her fate?
She refused to believe it!
She had been kind and hardworking since she was young. This couldn't be her destiny!
Unable to negotiate her way out, she screamed for help. "Help! Is anyone there?"
While shouting, she noticed the approaching men and accurately aimed a kick at the leader's crotch.
The man retreated in pain, but another man rushed forward. He grabbed her by the hair and struck her with a slap.
The sound of the slap made her head spin.
Before she could react, she was pushed to the ground.
Ripping sound. Her sleeve was torn.
"I won't let you animals get what you want!"
Queenie was about to smash her head against the wall as she spoke.
But in the next instant, a piercing scream echoed at the entrance of the alley.
A familiar woman in black swiftly grabbed one man's arm and broke it off.
She kicked another man with skillful and graceful movements.
Then came several barks.
It was General!
She fed General every day and recognized its voice.
Queenie felt relieved. She saw General's huge figure pounce on one of the thugs, biting his arm.
"It hurts!" The thug howled in pain, unable to shake General off no matter how hard he tried.
The rain drizzled down.
In a disheveled state, Queenie looked up and saw Manley holding a black umbrella, pushing Benoit towards her.
She swore it was the most beautiful sight she had ever seen in her life.
In the misty rain, a handsome man with a white shirt and a black overcoat sat in a wheelchair. His well-defined fingers reached out to her, accompanied by a voice filled with apology and warmth.
"Queenie, I'm sorry I'm late."
At that moment, Queenie couldn't tell if her face was covered in tears or raindrops...
