Chapter 147 The Interweaving of Plans
"Here already?" Lilith stood up and greeted Queenie and Barbara.
Approaching them, she glared at Barbara. "You didn't want to come along with your mother, leaving me sitting here all alone. How boring!"
Lilith's gaze then fell upon Barbara's wine-red spaghetti strap dress, her eyes momentarily frozen.
"Barbara, why dress up so fancy? This isn't some formal evening, is it?"
Barbara, holding Queenie's hand, took her seat with a hint of attitude. "That's none of your business! I wore this outfit specifically for Simms to see."
Lilith's expression stiffened, and just as she was about to lose her temper, she reminded herself of tonight's mission.
After tonight, Barbara would have no more connection with Simms.
Lilith returned to her own seat.
Queenie spoke first. "Sister-in-law, you owe me an apology, remember?"
"I remember." Lilith's lips twitched. "Tonight's dinner is a reconciliation feast. Why else would I have Pollard reserve a private room for us?"
Lilith pressed the service bell, summoning the waiter to bring the dishes.
Queenie spoke straightforwardly. "I still address you as sister-in-law out of the utmost respect. I've come here with sincerity for reconciliation. One of the conditions my uncle agreed to in the reconciliation is that you apologize."
Barbara paused for a moment, wondering why Queenie was so comfortable calling Lilith "sister-in-law" and her uncle "uncle" today.
Weren't she and Mr. Clancy not married yet?
However, Barbara didn't have time to ponder as she heard Queenie's calm, yet sharp voice again.
"I know what you're thinking. Rest assured, I won't entangle myself with Pollard anymore. It's none of my concern whom you choose as your future wife or whom you find pleasing. As long as you apologize today and promise that we will no longer have any other interactions in the future, I can forgive you one last time. If not, I'll see it through to the end."
Queenie's words were, in fact, a warning.
It was a final attempt to strike Lilith, a last chance for her. Because Benoit valued brotherhood, as his wife, she also didn't want the family to become too strained. But Lilith didn't think that way in her heart; she felt that Queenie, this younger generation, was too audacious!
She put on a fake smile and greeted Queenie and Barbara, "Let's eat first."
"Apologize first!" Queenie insisted.
Although Benoit had taken care of the drinks, Lilith was still somewhat worried, afraid that the situation would get out of control.
"Queenie says she's willing to accept the reconciliation, but she doesn't even want to eat with me?" Lilith's smile was insincere.
Barbara, on the other hand, seemed indifferent and started eating the dishes on the table.
Seeing this, Lilith served Barbara some food. "Queenie, we will often have meals together in Clancy Villa. If you can't handle this, what will you do in the future?"
Queenie wasn't provoked and smiled lightly. "Then you're underestimating me too much."
Saying that, she symbolically picked up some food and put it in her mouth. After chewing for a couple of bites, she secretly spat it out into her napkin.
Lilith stood up and poured red wine for Barbara and Queenie. After pouring, she was the first to raise her wine glass, feeling awkward as she spoke, "I admit that I was wrong in this matter. I apologize. I hope you can forgive me and not seek revenge on my children."
After finishing the wine, she seemingly bowed sincerely.
Queenie also held her wine glass, her expression turning cold.
The last sentence about seeking revenge on her children, wasn't Lilith just trying to manipulate Barbara?
It seemed that Lilith hadn't given up on her plan.
Queenie sipped her champagne lightly, while Barbara, seeming agitated, quickly finished a glass and ordered another one.
She looked at Lilith with a strange gaze, as if saying, "If you want me to drink, I'll drink until I'm dead."
Queenie tried to restrain her, "Alright, Barbara, don't drink too much."
But Barbara didn't listen and had a few more glasses until she passed out.
Lilith looked surprised, "How did this child get herself drunk?"
Saying that, she spoke to Queenie, "Go and get a room for Barbara. I'll take care of her here."
Queenie looked deep into Lilith's eyes, mocking her with a slight lift of her mouth, and followed the original plan to book a room at the counter before returning to the private room.
At this moment, Lilith awkwardly found an excuse to leave, letting Queenie assist Barbara to the room.
Queenie followed through, bringing Barbara to the room and then leaving.
But at that moment, Barbara, who had pretended to be drunk, furrowed her brows.
Her body was feeling even worse.
That alcohol...Mr. Clancy couldn't handle it?!
And just as Queenie was about to leave, she saw a familiar figure.
It was Leo! Queenie followed him...
