Chapter 45: Must-read! Queenie's ex-fiancé proposes!
Macy had no classes to teach during first period, so she went to the playground alone.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt like she had to help Mr. Clancy!
Between Pollard and Benoit, Macy sided with Mr. Clancy!
Not to mention, Queenie has already married Benoit, and she also hopes that her best friend will have a long and happy marriage with her husband.
So, Macy sent a WhatsApp message to Manley, "Hey, could you ask Mr. Clancy if he knows what day it is today?"
At this time, Benoit, who was in the hospital room, heard Manley's report and took Manley's phone to reply personally.
"I am Benoit."
"Today is Queenie's birthday, I know."
Macy was taken aback, not expecting Benoit to reply so quickly.
With such a fast response, he couldn't have cheated and called someone for the information, which means Benoit genuinely knows Queenie's birthday.
"That's great, just make sure you behave well."
Benoit answered, "Got it."
Macy was somewhat amazed by Benoit's reply.
He didn't seem as heartless as people in Coast City had claimed.
Back in the hospital room, Benoit threw the phone back to Manley and asked with a stern face, "Have the clothes been sent to the house?"
"They have been sent, and, all price tags have been removed, so Queenie won't feel burdened, per your request."
"Okay." Benoit's face relaxed a bit. "When will the blood test report be ready? I'm waiting to be discharged and celebrate Queenie's birthday."
Manley looked hesitant. "The doctors said that you passed out earlier in the morning, most likely due to an infection, so they want you to stay isolated here. The report... probably won't be ready until tonight."
"I was just tired in the morning!" Benoit felt frustrated when thought about what happened that morning. when he passed out and forgott to open the door for his wife. "Hurry up, tell the hospital director to speed things up, I want to leave."
"Joseph Martinez said it couldn't be done quickly. Blood analysis takes time. He also said that if you insist on leaving, he will have to call Prescott."
Upon hearing this, Benoit's face turned completely dark. "Go ahead and make a reservation at the restaurant. If the blood test report comes back fine, I'll immediately accompany Queenie to celebrate her birthday. The cake should be the one I picked a few days ago."
"Alright." Manley responded and quickly went to handle it.
At school, Macy was relieved after confirming that Benoit knew Queenie's birthday.
At lunchtime, she went to find Queenie to eat together.
As the two of them walked out together, they saw several parents stopping Miss Wilson at the corner of the stairs.
"Miss Wilson, it was our fault for not considering it properly before, that's why we wanted to change from Miss Lorente."
"Yes, we didn't expect the children to like Miss Lorente so much."
"Miss Wilson, please let Miss Lorente come back to teach our class. Look, this is a petition signed by all the parents in our class.
Ms. Lorente sincerely apologized. Brendon Carter's mother also signed. Not a single parent out of the 45 students in the class is missing."
Upon hearing this, Queenie smirked sarcastically.
The previous petition requesting the principal to transfer her to another class also didn't have a single parent missing!
Now, hearing that the parents in this class hope for her to go back and teach, she wasn't particularly moved anymore.
May was annoyed by several parents blocking her, "To be frank, the school has its own rules and regulations. Changing teachers like this, what does it look like? And Ms. Lorente has already gone to teach class 8, so transferring her back wouldn't be fair to the students in class 8!"
A parent retorted, "How is it unfair to class 8? Class 8 is the bottom class; the best educational resources should be kept for our top students."
Ms. Wilson didn't look happy, "Leona, the current teacher of class 1, is also very excellent. She was an outstanding graduate from the Teachers' College."
"But...but her guidance for the essay competition was obviously not good! My daughter said it was much worse than what Ms. Lorente guided!"
"Yes!" another parent chimed in, "And Ms. Lorente even guided two students from class 8 into the finals. She really has excellent skills."
"The competition relies on the abilities of the students themselves, the teachers only play a supporting role. Ultimately, it's about the children. Weren't you complaining that Ms. Lorente had too little homework? Well, Ms. Pesarin can meet your requirements."
May's expression became stern: "I'll say it again! Teachers can't be transferred back and forth like this, as it will affect the stability of the students. If you still have objections, go find the principal."
After saying that, May forcefully walked away.
Queenie and Macy also quietly left, not wanting to listen any further.
On the way, Macy exclaimed with satisfaction: "Exactly! Earlier, they complained that you had too little homework. Now they know your worth, but it's too late! They've given Leona the opportunity to teach the top students."
Queenie smiled and didn't take it to heart, "Let them give the opportunity to others, I'm not interested! Leona and I were in the same cohort. It's good for her to have the opportunity."
"Well said." Macy didn't say anything more and instead asked, "By the way, did your husband send you birthday wishes today?"
Queenie glanced at her phone and remembered that he didn't pay attention to her that morning. She suddenly felt a little disappointed and shook her head.
Seemingly not entirely convinced, Macy picked up Queenie's WhatsApp list and looked at it. Finally, she comforted her, "Some people, maybe they want to surprise you. They're ignoring you now, but they'll give you a surprise after work. You'll have an emotional rebound and be incredibly touched."
Queenie smiled and looked at Macy amusingly, "Where did you learn all this?"
Macy confidently raised her chin, "Just wait and see!"
During lunch, Queenie invited Leona again, and the three of them had a simple meal to celebrate.
In the afternoon, they continued with their daily activities.
After three classes, when it was time to finish school, Queenie felt a bit dizzy. The sky had already darkened by the time she finished grading the papers. It was almost six o'clock, and Benoit hadn't called her yet. Queenie felt a sense of indescribable disappointment. After thinking for a moment, she took the initiative to call Benoit, wanting to invite him for dinner.
But Benoit, who had just been informed by the dean that his white blood cell count was abnormal and that he needed to remain in the hospital for observation, bluntly said, "I won't be going home for dinner tonight, I have something to take care of."
"Oh," Queenie paused for a moment, then asked, "Will you still come back tonight? I can prepare some late-night snacks..."
"I don't know," Benoit's tone was chilly.
"Alright, you're busy then." Queenie hung up the phone, not knowing if Benoit was still upset with her because of the stone incident, and suddenly felt a bit aggravated.
After tidying up her desk, she grabbed her bag and left the school. Just as she reached the school gate, Director So from the Coast City Institute of Archaeology came to meet her.. Director So, Pollard’s supervisor was a witty and humorous old man. He was dressed in traditional Chinese clothing and wore black-framed glasses, giving him an air of scholarly refinement. When Mr. So saw Queenie, he warmly greeted her, "Queenie, long time no see. I specifically came here to wait for you because there's a newspaper article that the institute needs your help with."
As he said this, Mr. So gestured towards the small car behind him, indicating for Queenie to get in. Queenie didn't want to offend Mr. So, so she got into the car with him.
After all, it wasn't a difficult task. Sometimes, the institute's publications would ask for her help from an English teacher's perspective to carefully consider the usage of certain words. After all, the precision of language in these formal publications was very high.
Queenie followed Director So into the car. On the way, the director kept praising Pollard, saying that he was a young man with great initiative and a rare talent in the institute.
Queenie felt awkward throughout the journey and didn't realize that there was a car following them. The person in the car was Sarah, who was on her way to the school to borrow money from her sister to pay off her credit card. She noticed Queenie getting into an older man's car and quickly hailed a taxi to catch up with them.
A short car ride later, they arrived at the Coast City Institute of Archaeology. As soon as Queenie got out of the car, she felt the atmosphere was clearly different from before.
