Chapter 40 Security is being difficult

Upon hearing this, Monica was stunned, "Mama, you've never refused me before! You always promised me everything!"

"Yes, my sweetheart. Whatever you want, if Mama has it, she will give it to you."

Monica became anxious, "But Mama, before, what belonged to my sister was mine too. Hasn't it always been like that in our family?"

Gilda's expression became rigid; "Monica, things are different now. Your sister was actually unhappy deep down before, but she had to listen to us.
Whenever there was something she needed to do, she had to ask us for the household registration book. If we didn't give it to her, she couldn't do anything.

Do you remember when your sister wanted to apply to teach at a prestigious school? Your father found it embarrassing and didn't want her to do that, so he wouldn’t give her the household registration book.
She begged me for a long time, and I held that over her."

Monica and Gilda decided they should visit Queenie at her new home in Bund Bay.

The two ladies, were dressed up in a very luxurious manner, walked up to the main entrance gate of Bund Bay. They were immediately stopped by the security guard.

"May I ask who you are looking for?" the guard asked.

Gilda arrogantly raised her chin and declared, "I'm here to visit my daughter."

"Excuse me, ma’am, could you please wait for a moment? I need to confirm with the homeowner," the guard said, reaching for the phone to make a call.

Panicked, Monica quickly signaled to Gilda.

Understanding the signal, Gilda rushed over and hung up the phone, trying to act casual.

"Well, you see, today is my daughter's birthday. We came here to surprise her. So, you don't need to make that call," Gilda said, her expression becoming less natural.

The guard frowned slightly and said, "Ma’am, it is difficult for me to handle a situation like this. The visitor regulations of Bund Bay clearly state that we must confirm with the homeowner and obtain their consent before allowing anyone in."

As soon as Gilda heard "must get consent from the homeowner," she became even more determined not to make that call.

"No, absolutely not! If you make that call, there won't be any surprise. Look, I know the name of the homeowner. She's called Queenie, which is my daughter's name," Gilda insisted, opening her phone and showing a photo. "See, this is me, and this is my daughter, and the homeowner. We know each other, right? Her husband's name is Benoit. Look, all the information matches! Can you let us in now?"

With that, Gilda tried to forcefully pass the guard and enter.

The guard stepped forward, blocking their way again. "I'm sorry, Ms. Gilda, but even if the information matches, I still can't let you in."

Gilda couldn't tolerate this response and became anxious. "You useless security guard! Can't you understand that I am here to surprise my daughter? Surprise, do you understand? Let me ask you, if you ruin our surprise, will you take responsibility?"

"Fine, you can surprise your daughter," the guard said to Gilda and Monica.
As they were about to start walking into Bund Bay, they were once again stopped by the security guard, "But you must contact your son-in-law. Let him authorize us to let you in. This way it won't ruin your surprise."

Gilda was infuriated and rolled her eyes.

Calling Benoit, isn't that asking for trouble?

At this moment, Monica grew impatient and took out 70 dollars from her purse, and waved it around. "Will this do? Is 70 dollars enough to get us in?"

The security guard recoiled as if shocked. "Miss, please don't get me fired! We have strict rules and cannot accept any tips!"

Monica also rolled her eyes in anger.
The mother and daughter were stranded at the entrance of Bund Bay, feeling anxious.
They didn’t realize that security would be so damn difficult!

Suddenly, Monica exclaimed and excitedly took out her phone, dialing a friend's number.
Not long after that the phone in the security booth rang.
Monica's friend, who lived in Bund Bay, was calling security to request passage for them.
The security guard agreed and gestured for them to go in.
Monica sneered and proudly linked arms with Gilda, walking inside.

As soon as they entered the complex, Monica, who had been to Bund Bay before, began introducing the surroundings to Gilda.
"Mummy, over there is a temperature-controlled swimming club. The pools inside are so clean, and there's a VIP area where you can swim alone without being disturbed."

"That over there is the gym, and they even have personal trainers!"

"And that...that is the cinema."

The more Monica spoke, the more excited she became, shaking Gilda's arm with pleading eyes.

"Mummy, I really want to live here."

But how could her mom not understand?

Monica had caused a fuss several times before.
Her father and three brothers had pulled strings, but none of them could gain permission to buy a house here.

Now, most units in this development were occupied, and there was no chance of purchasing a vacant one.

Unable to bear seeing her youngest daughter disappointed, Gilda gathered her courage and said, "I'll talk to that wretched girl later. I'll try to persuade her to move out and give you the house."

Upon hearing this, Monica excitedly kissed Gilda's cheek. "Mummy, you're the best!"

The two of them walked to the standalone building, that had an access control pad in order to enter the building.
However, Gilda and Monica were lucky. Just as they arrived, a resident walked out, so they quickly slipped in and went straight to Queenie's floor.

Today was Sunday, and Queenie happened to be home, resting and preparing her class. When she heard the doorbell, she paused for a moment before getting up to open the door.

Seeing her mother and sister dressed up outside the door, she was once again stunned.
Gilda, being familiar with Queenie, pushed the door open and walked in. "What? Are you surprised to see your mom and sister? You wretched girl, now that you're married, you think you can have nothing to do with your family? You don't even come home to see me and your father, making your mom and sister come visit you. Do you think you're being responsible? This gossip is going to spread!"

Queenie's face darkened a bit at Gilda's words. No one could stand it when someone just walked in to another person’s house and then immediately start yelling at them. However, since both of them had already entered the house, Queenie couldn't just kick them out, so she politely poured two cups of tea for them.

The two women didn't really feel like strangers; they looked around and admired the decorations in the house. After they finished their tour, Queenie sat on the sofa, looking at them with the attitude of a host. "So, what brings you here?"

Gilda became furious at her behavior. "You brat, what are you saying? As a mother, I come to check on you and you ask me what brings me here!"

Queenie smiled faintly, "Mom, let's not pretend, okay? From childhood to now, when have you ever cared for me when I was sick? When have you ever wished me a happy birthday? You have never cared for me, and yet you pushed me to a nearly fifty-year-old man. Do you really think I would believe that suddenly you have an overflow of motherly love and want to make up for the years of love I've missed?"

Gilda's face turned extremely ugly at being challenged. "You brat! So now that you're an English teacher, you have a way with words! You even dare to lecture your own mother!"

Seeing her mother still pretending, Queenie suddenly felt tired and didn't want to deal with it anymore. She stood up.
