Chapter 85 Child?
Queenie's lips slightly parted, but Benoit raised his hand to stop her.
"I'll handle this."
Simple words, but they carried a sense of calm authority.
Warmth swelled in Queenie's chest. In that home, no one had ever spoken to her like that.
Whenever something happened, there was never someone blocking her path.
Benoit nodded slightly at her, gesturing for her to sit to the side. "In this household, I am the eldest. I will handle it."
Benoit also asked Barbara Clancy to find a chair and sit down.
Just as Barbara Clancy sat down, she heard Benoit commandingly say, "Tomorrow morning, go to the west district and pick someone up for me."
Barbara Clancy was taken aback. "But Mr. Clancy, I have a scheduled appointment with a celebrity tomorrow. I need to take photos for her."
"Cancel it, and go help me pick up the person tomorrow." Benoit insisted.
Barbara Clancy immediately felt wronged, pouting as she retorted, "How old is this person? Can't they just take a taxi themselves? Mr. Clancy, I'm really not available tomorrow! This is going to be an important day for me as a photographer!"
Barbara Clancy was about to say more, but suddenly her expression changed.
Benoit stared straight at her, his voice becoming sterner. "If that's the case, why did you ask Queenie to take a leave and pick you up?"
A tinge of bitterness appeared on Barbara Clancy's face.
"Barbara Clancy!" Benoit's voice grew heavier. "I am Mr. Clancy, and I am teaching you these things for your own good. You think it's natural to boss her around and that she has to please you because she wants to marry your brother. Do you know that in an ordinary family, this kind of sister-in-law would not be treated well? Moreover, Queenie isn't even married to your brother, and yet you expect her to buy you luxury items?"
"Mr. Clancy," Barbara Clancy felt a bit wronged. "I am not like my mom! I don't want to boss Queenie around. It's just a habit for me. Besides, how would I know if my brother didn't give her his card to use? I thought it was my brother's money."
"Even if your brother gave her his card, you still can't do this!" Benoit's tone turned slightly serious.
"There should be boundaries and a sense of propriety between families. Suppose your brother really gets married. Then he would have established a new family. His money would already belong to their household economy. If your brother and Queenie willingly buy you things, that's fine, but you can't actively demand it."
Pausing for a moment, Benoit continued, "The same goes for best friends or any close companions. Before using someone else's belongings, you should ask for their permission. It's about respecting others; personal refinement, not unfamiliarity. You have always been careless in your actions, neglecting the details of life, and using others' belongings without permission. No one has said anything to you because you are Miss Clancy of the Clancy family, not because what you did was right. Barbara Clancy, when you get married in the future, when you cultivate your marital and social relationships, you must understand these things."
Barbara Clancy remained quiet for a moment, listening carefully, and apologized to Queenie with her head lowered.
"Queenie, I'm sorry. I will be more attentive from now on. But I genuinely consider you my best friend."
Queenie nodded lightly, indicating that she understood.
At that moment, Benoit pulled out a long lens from somewhere and handed it to Barbara Clancy.
"This is a gift from Mr. Clancy. Lessons are lessons, but he also supports your dreams, and Mr. Clancy will support them well."
Barbara Clancy's eyes lit up when she saw the packaging box, and she jumped up in excitement.
"Oh my, this lens is so expensive! I can't bear to buy it myself."
Benoit nodded. "If I am willing to give it to you, then you can have it. But you can't always expect what others haven't offered."
"Thank you, Mr. Clancy. I understand now." Barbara Clancy kissed the long lens. "I'll use this to take pictures of celebrities tomorrow!"
After saying that, Barbara Clancy went back to her room, took out her beloved camera, attached the lens, and excitedly rushed out of the apartment to take some test shots.
Queenie walked over to Benoit gratefully and said, "Thank you."
Benoit held her hand in response, "I have a sister overseas. I can't guarantee that she is easy to get along with, but I can assure you that as long as I'm here, I will handle your relationship with her well."
"Xi, you don't need to worry about the in-law issue," Benoit reached out and pulled her onto his lap, asking in a gentle voice, "What were you thinking just now?"
While teaching Barbara Clancy a lesson, Benoit never forgot to observe his wife's subtle expressions. For a moment, he found his wife's reaction quite peculiar.
Queenie smiled lightly. "I was just thinking about children."
