Chapter 88 Provoking Others
Lilith said all this with great enthusiasm, feeling as if she had attracted a crowd, especially mothers-in-law and mothers around her age.
These women were extremely forceful, but Queenie wasn't drowned out by their spittle!
Queenie stared at Lilith with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.
Before she could speak, the well-intentioned woman spoke up.
"I understand you. But don't get too worked up. We're at an age where most of us have hypertension. Don't let anger ruin your health."
Lilith was momentarily stunned and felt unlucky. She didn't have any illness!
The well-intentioned woman didn't notice Lilith's unpleasant expression and looked around at the people, sighing.
"In this new era, we mothers-in-law also need to change. We can't always be in charge of young people's affairs and control their financial power. Let the young couple spend their own money however they want. If they want to have children and how many, let the young couple decide. We can't meddle. We have to step back, or else we'll be resented! That's how families can be harmonious. What's the point of arguing all the time at home?"
As she finished speaking, the well-intentioned woman looked at several women of similar age and called out, "Everyone, what do you think about this?"
"Yeah, anyway, we're happy and relaxed."
"Yeah, my grandson didn't come. He came here to eat sushi with his friends."
A few onlookers agreed with a few words.
A young woman couldn't stand it and spoke up. "Exactly! Your son even asked you for a bank card to give to his wife, and you still have something to say! This is your son's decision. Why are you getting angry at your daughter-in-law? Let me tell you, your son is married now. If they weren't married yet, I would advise this girl to forget about it. A grown man who gives his bank card to his mother is either a mama's boy or incapable of managing finances. You can't marry someone like that!"
Lilith couldn't stand it when someone said bad things about her son and got angry. "What did you say? I'll tear your mouth off! My son is the most capable man in the whole Coast City!"
The righteous woman was somewhat taken aback by being spoken to like this.
Queenie gratefully looked at the woman who spoke up for her. "Thank you. I'm glad I didn't marry her son, and we've already broken up."
The woman was stunned by these words. "Then why is she still giving you a hard time?"
Only then did Lilith remember the fact that Queenie had married Benoit, but upon hearing Queenie's disdain for her son, she suddenly became furious, like an enraged rooster, ready to fight.
"What did you say? What's wrong with my son? My son doesn't spend money recklessly. He listens, he's filial, and he's not unfaithful. Which rich person in Coast City can compare to him? You, an unlucky woman, have no blessings to marry him! Now that you can't marry my son, you still want to provoke him to give you money to spend. Let me tell you, as long as I'm alive, don't even think about setting foot in my house!"
Her voice fell, and Barbara Clancy rushed over, her face dark.
"Mom, when my brother isn't here, this is how you treat Queenie? No wonder Queenie wants to break up with him. With a mother-in-law like you, I wouldn't dare to marry him either!"
Lilith was stunned, completely unaware that her fierce appearance had been seen by her daughter.
She was always cautious in her actions. She had never let Pollard or Barbara Clancy catch her bullying Queenie.
Being caught face-to-face this time, there were inevitably some guilty feelings.
But then, she frowned.
"Barbara, what are you doing here? I know it was her, Queenie, this wicked woman, who deliberately called you back to provoke me and drive a wedge between us mother and daughter!"
