Chapter 142 Pollard's First Argument with His Mother
Pollard had never heard Queenie's voice like this before, and it stirred something in his heart. He asked again, "Queenie, is that you?"
Queenie cleared her throat and returned to her usual self. "It's me, what's up?"
"My father instructed me before his business trip to arrange for my mother to apologize to you in person. Can we meet tomorrow evening at Room 6 of Lake Hotel?"
"Okay."
Queenie hung up and immediately called Kate. "Keep track of Lilith these days and see what she's up to. The Lilith I know won't stay idle after facing such failure and humiliation. Moreover, Brandon's birthday is in three days, so Lilith might have some other schemes."
"Sure, no problem," Kate promptly responded, preparing herself and the equipment to depart.
On the other side, Pollard arrived at the police station in a frantic state, inquiring about the details of the dispute. After listening to the police officer's account, he widened his eyes in astonishment. "Is this true?"
The police handed over the transcripts and evidence for Pollard to examine.
As Pollard studied them carefully, listening to the recording, he sat back in the wooden chair as if struck by a heavy blow, murmuring to himself, "How could my mother... How could she do such a thing..."
The police officer, aware of Pollard's identity, reassured him, "It's important to communicate more with your family."
Removing his glasses, Pollard painfully pinched the bridge of his nose and politely thanked the officer, then asked, "With these documents signed, can I take my mother with me?"
The police officer checked the documents and nodded.
Pollard took Lilith away.
As soon as Lilith saw Pollard, she wailed, "Son, that wretched Queenie has bullied your mother! You have to take a stand for me!"
Lilith reached out to grab Pollard's arm, but he annoyingly avoided her.
"Mom, I know very well how you treated Queenie in the past! You always ordered her around, made her do things, and never gave her money to buy things. I've seen all of it. Did I ever say anything harsh to you? It was always me who advised Queenie to be patient and respect you as an elder. We are a family, and we shouldn't fuss over these things! But you... Look at what you've done this time! Mom, you've really gone too far!"
Lilith froze for a few seconds, unable to find the words to defend herself.
I couldn't believe my eyes as I looked at my usually mild-mannered son. "Son... I was only worried that Queenie would tie you down. I'm helping both of you break free completely. Queenie can't have children!"
"Mom," Pollard's voice raised, "Do you know what matters most to Queenie? It's her career! She loves teaching so much, and you're ruining it for her, putting her in jail! Mom, I never thought you could be so heartless!"
"Heartless? Son, you dare say I'm heartless?" Lilith felt as if a knife had stabbed her in the chest.
Pollard, visibly frustrated by last night's drunkenness, was in no mood to console his own mother. "Dad was right. You should take some time to reflect on yourself. And besides, it's not Queenie pursuing me now, it's me pursuing her. She's been wanting to break up, but I don't want to. Mom, please stop getting involved in our relationship. I'll handle it myself, and Queenie and I won't break up!"
With those words, Pollard, overcome with irritation, tugged at his own hair.
"Mom, please don't trouble Queenie anymore. It's my fault for mistreating her."
Lilith keenly sensed something was wrong with her son and probed, "What did you do to mistreat Queenie?"
