Chapter 90 Gilda Feels Disgusted
Lilith turned around, squinting her eyes as she scrutinized Gilda.
Gilda took a few steps forward and said, "Mrs. Clancy, why not find a tearoom to have a chat?"
"Hmm," Lilith responded with a cold tone.
The three of them went to the nearest tearoom.
Mary Green, who had planned to find Lilith, discreetly followed them.
Lilith, Gilda, and Monica entered the private room in the tearoom.
Gilda signaled to Monica. "Serve Mrs. Clancy some good tea."
Blushing, Monica hurriedly got up and poured tea for Lilith. "Auntie, have some tea."
Lilith looked tired as she asked, "Just tell me. You said Benoit and Queenie aren't married. What's the truth?"
Gilda briefly explained the incident at the luxury store.
Monica added, "My sister doesn't have any money. She admitted it herself. She barely earns enough to cover her basic expenses and can't even afford a single piece of clothing from that store."
Gilda chimed in. "Yes, and then your daughter openly declared their relationship, saying that my eldest daughter is just staying at Mr. Clancy's house as a guest."
"Staying as a guest?" Lilith frowned.
Gilda nodded.
"After that, we overheard Barbara Clancy say that the two of them have separate rooms. It seems like both of them claimed to have told Barbara Clancy about their marriage, but Barbara Clancy didn't believe them and asked them to show her their marriage certificate. But they couldn't produce it either."
Lilith was taken aback. "So you haven't seen their marriage certificate either? Doesn't their household registration indicate their married status?"
Gilda pounded on the table, indignant. "Mrs. Clancy, you've also noticed the problem, right? Mr. Clancy had someone come to our house to take our household registration, and we couldn’t dare to refuse. When the household registration was returned, my eldest daughter's registration had been transferred out. How can a legitimate marriage be kept so secretive? There was no dowry at all, and they said the house was given to Queenie, but we haven't seen the property deed!"
Monica poured another cup of tea for Mrs. Clancy and continued, "We speculate that Mr. Clancy transferred a small house to my sister, and then they had a fake marriage to deceive Prescott Clancy. And that small house is the advantage given to my sister!"
Lilith's eyes suddenly brightened, and a smile appeared on her lips. "Benoit, so he was just acting in front of father!"
Having obtained useful information, she stood up, intending to leave.
No way would she lower herself to associate with the Lorente family.
There was no chance of becoming in-laws with her!
Gilda noticed Lilith's intention and quickly stopped her. "Mrs. Clancy, I know you look down on our humble family. But the old lady promised us the engagement back then. And now, my eldest daughter can't be considered as having married into the Clancy family..."
Before Gilda could finish speaking, Lilith's face changed and her voice grew louder. "What do you mean? Are you threatening me with the old engagement?"
"It's not a threat," Gilda explained anxiously. "I mean to say that although you may despise us, we can be of great assistance to you."
"Assistance? What kind of assistance can you provide?" Lilith sneered.
"Monica is our family's pearl. If Monica can marry Pollard, our family will spare no effort to help your son and husband ascend to the position of Chairman of the Clancy Group."
Lilith's gaze grew serious, and her voice became excited. "Do you have a way?"
"Queenie is my eldest daughter. For the sake of my younger daughter's happiness and for your family's grasp of power, as a loving mother, I am willing to overlook the consequences to assist you. Just say the word, and we will obey your commands."
In other words, she was willing to sacrifice her elder daughter to ensure the happiness of her younger daughter.
Seeing no objection from Lilith, Gilda continued to persuade her.
"Now that my daughter, Queenie, is tied to Mr. Clancy, we have plenty of ways to make her suffer. Wouldn't that be equivalent to pulling Mr. Clancy down from his position?"
At the end, Lilith couldn't help but roll her eyes. She had thought it was a brilliant plan. But since someone offered herself as a lackey, she naturally wasn't silly enough to push her away.
