Chapter 148 Plots Within Plots
Barbara collapsed onto the bed, her body temperature rising gradually as she grew weaker and weaker. Shocked, she quickly dialed Simms' phone number.
"Hello," a deep voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
"Simms, it's me, Barbara. I... I've been drugged. I'm in room 802 at Lake Hotel. Please come and save me."
"Barbara, you can call the police or inform Mr. Clancy-"
"No. Simms, you save me..."
As Barbara writhed in discomfort on the bed, she couldn't finish her sentence before Simms heartlessly hung up the phone. She struggled to stand up and stumbled towards the hotel room's door. Just as her hand was about to touch the doorknob, she hesitated and withdrew.
"Simms, I refuse to believe you won't come and save me! I'll bet everything on it!"
After saying that, Barbara gritted her teeth, walked back to the bed, and lay down. She straightened her beautiful red dress, imagining how Simms would burst through the door. A smile curled up at the corners of her mouth. She had been waiting for this day for many years.
...
In the hotel corridor, Queenie caught a glimpse of Leo's figure, but he quickly disappeared. The sound of a girl crying intermittently echoed from around the corner.
"Please..."
"Please, just let me go."
The voices were achingly reminiscent of a girl from years ago. Without thinking, Queenie chased after them. She reached the last room just as the door closed.
Queenie tapped on the door. "Leo, open the door! If you don't open it now, I'll call the police! Open up!"
In her desperation, Queenie turned the doorknob, and unexpectedly, it opened. She rushed in, hoping to save someone. But after taking a few steps inside, she hesitated, thinking about calling Benoit to report the address. Suddenly, her head was struck, causing intense pain, and she fell unconscious.
Meanwhile, Benoit, who was in the private room, felt a slight discomfort in his chest. He glanced at his watch; although not much time had passed, Queenie should have joined him by now.
His phone rang, and Benoit answered. On the other end, Simms reported a room number. "Barbara said she's in trouble."
"Yes, I know. I'm here," Benoit replied calmly.
"Alright, it's none of my business," Simms said, about to hang up. But Benoit cut to the chase.
"She wants you to save her."
"Tedious," Simms coldly squeezed out two words before ending the call.
Kate glanced at Benoit. "Mr. Clancy, there might be trouble."
Benoit frowned. "What kind of trouble?"
Kate pointed at the surveillance footage. "It shows Queenie taking Barbara into the room, but she hasn't come out. I checked, and the image is frozen, not live. We can't reach Queenie now."
Before she could finish her sentence, Benoit pounded the table, standing up abruptly.
The gaze sharpened like a blade.
"Manley, immediately lock down the hotel, bring the General from the car, and conduct a comprehensive search for Queenie! Kate, you're in charge of bringing Mary here!"
After saying that, Benoit walked out of the room directly.
Manley was shocked to see him walking out on his own feet and hurriedly dialed his subordinate's phone.
"Quickly, seal off the Lake Hotel. No one is allowed to leave their rooms! Cut off all the hallway surveillance in Lake Hotel."
After making arrangements, Manley immediately returned to the RV and ran into the hotel with the General.
The security guard immediately stopped Manley. "I'm sorry! Pets are not allowed in our hotel."
The General impatiently barked at the security guard, showing its sharp teeth.
The security guard stepped back in fear but still dutifully said, "Sorry, we are a five-star hotel..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Manley grabbed the security guard by the collar and asked, "Mr. Clancy's wife went missing in your hotel. I ask you, can you bear this responsibility?"
Upon hearing the name "Mr. Clancy," the security guard was directly scared silly, fell to the ground, and made way.
Manley quickly rushed up to the eighth floor with the General.
Benoit just finished restoring the surveillance and didn't find Queenie. When he saw the General, his gaze flickered and he walked over, forcefully rubbing its head, "Quickly find her for me!"
The General seemed to understand.
"Woof, woof," it barked twice and began sniffing the ground.
After taking a few sniffs, the General started sneezing frequently.
Manley's expression changed, "No good, the scent on the ground has been tampered with. They must have known we have the General and deliberately created interference with strong perfumes."
