Chapter 10 A Grand Shopping Spree on Earth
Vincent's slap landed on their head, silencing him. "Shut up," he roared, his anger palpable.
The onlookers stood frozen, taken aback by Vincent's outburst.
"Some words should not be spoken without understanding the situation. You're behaving like bandits," Vincent pointed accusingly at a few individuals.
"And if I hear another word against Henry, I won't hesitate to take action."
His serious expression left no room for doubt, and the crowd fell silent.
This was the consequence of uneducated minds judging others by personal preferences.
After scanning the surroundings, Vincent's voice boomed as he unfurled the parchment. "Baron Henry has decided to abolish several taxes, including the entrance fee, tolls on wheat, and the childbirth tax."
The announcement left many in disbelief, their eyes wide with astonishment. Even after Vincent finished, the crowd remained in stunned silence.
"Please, read it again," someone shouted, unable to believe their ears.
"Fine, listen carefully," Vincent obliged, knowing the people had endured enough hardship. The unexpected act of kindness was almost too much for them to comprehend.
As Vincent read the list again, many dropped to their knees, crying with emotion.
"Thank you, my lord," they cried out.
"Why is Henry showing up now? My brother starved to death because of the taxes," another lamented.
"We can save over a dozen copper coins a month now. Viva Henry!"
The joyous reactions echoed through the crowd, a rare moment of relief for the impoverished.
In the Lord's Mansion, Henry sat in his study, a faint smile playing on his lips after hearing cheers.
He knew that true wealth didn't come from exploiting the poor, which led only to rebellion.
Those familiar with Earth's history understood the consequences of oppressing the masses.
"I still have time to travel back and forth. I should go on a shopping spree, especially since I can get rid of these things,"
Henry thought, looking around the room. Much of it was in disrepair, and Carter had left nothing useful for him.
The opportunity to travel would reset at midnight, and since he had spent the night at Wyatt's, he still had a chance of journeys today.
Henry got up and locked the door to prevent the catgirl from entering, focusing on his next destination.
In the next moment, he vanished from the study.
When Henry opened his eyes again, he found himself back in his room, surrounded by familiar furnishings. He let out a sigh of relief.
Quickly, he changed his otherworldly attire into something more casual, sitting on the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
"Recruiting won't be a problem, so now I need to focus on weapons. Firearms are out of the question, so I'll have to rely on cold weapons for now,"
Henry contemplated, taking out his phone to search for crossbows. During his time in the other world, he had thought about bows and crossbows when he read the introduction of crossbows.
An archer needed to be proficient with a longbow, requiring at least a year of training to become skilled.
However, with a crossbow, one could develop effective killing power in just a few days of practice, which was why he valued it.
There were only about twenty days left until the autumn harvest, and if they couldn't fend off the bandits, Eldoria would likely suffer a lot.
Bows and crossbows each had their strengths and weaknesses. Bows were quicker to shoot but took longer to form an army, while crossbows required more time to load. So, he planned to purchase both of them.
Henry opened the Amazon app and immediately found several powerful crossbows. After some communication with the seller, the seller agreed to some of his unreasonable requests for a large sum of money.
Given the craftsmanship in the other world, it would be difficult to produce raw iron, let alone forge crossbows.
Henry took several large orders on the Amazon app. With a basement in the other world, some things could finally come into use.
After taking the orders, Henry tidied up and prepared to go out to buy some daily necessities.
As an orphan, Henry had brought some precious metals from the other world to Earth, exchanged them for money, and rented a yard in a remote location.
He planned to change locations every year to avoid drawing attention. The ability to travel between Earth and another world was his greatest secret and safeguard.
After all, compared to the situation on earth, he will focus on a different world in the future, where he is a lord and a noble.
Henry went to the supermarket and bought a lot of things, then found a place without surveillance cameras to put the items into his storage space.
He repeated this process at several supermarkets until he filled his two-cubic-meter storage space, then returned to the yard.
