Chapter 55 Sniper in an otherworldly World
The four orcs were clad in heavy infantry armor and wielded massive 8.2 feet machetes, looking like killing machines.
Directly in front of them, more than a dozen wooden figures over 6.56 feet tall had been set up. Behind these figures stood seven or eight archers, using bows and arrows typical of this era. After all, it was only a test; there was no need to use recurve bows."
"Ready!" Wyatt roared.
The four orcs immediately lowered their face masks, revealing only two empty eye sockets. Their hands tightly gripped the machetes.
The machete was one of Earth's great weapons, once used to deal with cavalry, capable of cutting down both men and horses with a single swing.
"Attack!" The four orcs roared, brandishing their machetes, and advanced with great strides.
"Fire!" Wyatt commanded.
The arrows were all blocked, leaving only white marks or shallow dents on the heavy armor.
The four orcs reached the wooden targets, their machetes swinging fiercely, shattering them. Then, with a powerful push, the wooden targets broke apart.
After the carnage, the wooden targets lay in pieces on the ground while the four orcs were left panting.
Mila and Ellie stared wide-eyed, astonished. Were these the same companions who had been standing there dumbfounded? Were they really so powerful?
Gabriel sneered with an indifferent look on his face, but he couldn't hide the envy in his eyes.
"Excellent! From now on, they shall be known as the Tank Heavy Armor Squad," Henry said, satisfied. The name described them as human tanks.
David replied, "Yes!" David didn't see anything special about the name, but if Henry said so, then that was the name.
Henry then looked at the amount of sweat on the four orcs and instructed David, "Give them an extra meal, a big piece of meat, and then train them hard. I don't want a flash in the pan. I want men who can fight for a long time."
"Okay, I'll make sure they eat well," David nodded.
In the military camp, the best food was reserved for the War Wolf Battle Squad, followed by the Heavy Infantry Squad, then the Recurve Bow Team, and finally, the soldiers in training.
Even the worst-fed soldiers ate ten times better than the civilians outside, and no one complained because the military respected the strong.
If they wanted to eat well, they had to train hard. With superior performance in each season's assessment, they could enter a better-treated unit.
Henry asked, "How is the cavalry training going?" Henry's main concern now was the cavalry. In this era of war, the cavalry took it all.
Whoever had more cavalry was the king. The mobility and impact of cavalry had made them dominant in warfare for thousands of years.
The former grassland chieftain on Earth relied on cavalry to conquer the largest territory in the world at that time.
And Henry's Tank Heavy Armor Squad was specifically created to deal with cavalry.
David expressed his concern with a hint of helplessness, "We are still short on war horses. We only have thirty, and the remaining twenty or so are not fit for battle; they're merely used for hauling cargo."
Thirty war horses was a bit too few. Henry was not satisfied; at most, he could arm twenty cavalry, ten of which had to go to the War Wolf Battle Squad.
War horses were rare, especially good war horses. Why were knights famous? One-third of it was because of the horses. A knight without a horse was not a knight but just a warrior.
A good war horse sometimes costs as much as a set of knight's armor. Among Henry's thirty war horses, some were obtained from grain merchants, and the fleet bought some from Hyratos.
"How many of the trained men can become cavalry?" Henry asked seriously, and this question related to his plans.
"Henry, it's no problem to gather twenty cavalry. I've already ask them to practice riding skills," David affirmed. He didn't dare to be careless about such a big matter.
Henry said, "Well! I want them to form combat power as soon as possible. Let them practice with the military crossbow, and don't be stingy with the bolts. What I want is the cavalry that can kill as soon as they mount their horses," Henry feared that the recruits would get nervous on the battlefield and cause trouble.
Wyatt replied, "Understood!"
Wyatt decided to give those people extra training, using real swords and arrows. He no longer cared if they got a little hurt.
Henry said, "Take me to see the War Wolf Battle Squad's training," Henry was now curious about what the War Wolf Battle Squad was training. Although he had provided the training program, he was also concerned about how his requirements were being met.
David said, "Okay!" David led the way, introducing the situation of the War Wolf Battle Squad. "Henry, in fact, the training of the War Wolf Battle Squad has already been explored by themselves, and it has been carried out according to your requirements."
Henry grasped his meaning. In other words, for the War Wolf Battle Squad, there wasn't much left that Davin could teach them. They were currently in the midst of their final training.
This was a barren forest, the back mountain area of the castle, where the ground was covered with yellow withered leaves, and a gust of wind could take away a large number of fallen leaves.
Mila said, "Henry, be careful; people are ambushing here."
Suddenly, Mila halted in front of Henry, a military knife gripped in each hand. She adopted a slightly crouched stance, an optimal position for unleashing power. Her keen eyes were vigilantly scanning the environment around them.
"Don't worry, I know them," Henry patted Mila's shoulder lightly.
Mila was anxious. She still hadn't found out where the other party was, which made her feel a great sense of crisis.
Henry shook his head, pointing towards a withered tree. "The person over there, your foot has been exposed," he said. Henry added, "And the one under the bush, your grey head is still shining. The one who has smeared mud all over their body..."
There was a sudden movement of a figure next to the dead tree, and the bark fell off, revealing Leo's astonished face. He didn't expect to be seen through so easily.
Then, the other disguised people came out, and Henry saw through all eight of them, and they looked at Henry in astonishment.
Henry said, "You are still too inexperienced. It would help if you cooperated with the environment, and the best way to disguise this is with these fallen leaves. Dig a hole underneath and cover it with fallen leaves. That's the best disguise."
Henry instructed that he would not say that he had trained his eyesight by playing games before, such as the game of finding the difference in a few pictures.
This training was essentially a field assassination and camouflage exercise. In other words, if they were to equip themselves with military crossbows and camouflage, they would essentially be the equivalent of snipers in an otherworldly world.
