Chapter 52 Henry's Treasure
"Henry, what should I do?" Ellie looked at Henry as everyone else seemed occupied.
Upon hearing Ellie call him by his name, Henry, he paused for a moment. Her change of address indicated a sincere intention to follow him.
"Why don't you be my assistant? Willow seems a bit overwhelmed," Henry suggested, glancing at Willow, who appeared tired.
Willow, serving as his secretary, managed a myriad of administrative tasks, often without taking a break. Her dedication to her work was evident in the efficient running of the city lord's mansion.
Willow was momentarily surprised by Henry's proposal, her face flushing. She hadn't realized he had been paying attention to her.
Mila, who was in the midst of snacking, paused. Besides being by Henry's side as a bodyguard, she hadn't been involved in much else. However, she considered eating an essential task, as food could spoil if left unattended.
"Alright, I'll do my best," Ellie nodded, casting a curious glance at Mila, who was devouring her food.
"Willow, please brief Ellie on the tasks and then take her to the private storage room," Henry instructed, jotting down a few notes and handing them to Willow.
Willow replied, "Okay."
Willow picked up a piece of paper, her eyes scanning the numbers on it. She called out, "Miss Ellie, please come with me!"
Ellie followed closely, her curiosity piqued. "Miss Willow, what is the private storage room?"
Willow gave a faint smile, turning her head to whisper, "That's Henry's treasure trove. The number of people who can enter there is no more than four."
Ellie's eyes widened in surprise.
"You are the fifth person, apart from Henry, me and my father, and Mila, to enter the private storage room," Willow proudly declared.
In reality, Willow had been managing the private storage room. She preferred handling Henry's affairs, such as researching new desserts and assisting with his appearance, rather than dealing with the matters of the estate.
Ellie's steps faltered. She hadn't expected such trust from Henry, and her heart quickened. Was this the charm of nobility?
They made their way through a series of corridors and entered another study. This was originally Nathan's study, which Mila had discovered to have a hidden chamber. Henry had it renovated and turned it into a private storage room.
Willow pushed aside the bookshelf in front of her, revealing a large door made of fine steel. On it were three enormous locks. These were precision locks that Henry had brought from Earth, boasting high security. Without the specific keys, it was impossible to unlock the door to the private storeroom.
Willow pulled out three keys from around her neck, unlocked the door to the private storeroom, and led Ellie inside.
The private storage room appeared to be a collection of various items, with boxes and shelves filled with peculiar objects devoid of the typical glimmer of gold and gemstones.
"What is that? Is it also a treasure?" Ellie pointed to a peculiar item in the corner, a metal frame with two circles.
"I asked Henry about that. It's a transportation device called a bicycle," Willow explained. Although she managed the private storage room, she was unfamiliar with most of the items in the storage room.
"What does 'transportation device' mean? Does the bicycle move on its own? It doesn't look like a vehicle at all," Ellie asked, her curiosity piqued.
"I'm not sure, to be honest," Willow shrugged, mimicking Henry's gesture.
"Wow, this armor is so cool!" Ellie exclaimed, approaching a suit of armor, her eyes sparkling.
"That's the armor worn by the generals from Henry's hometown; if I remember correctly, it's called Radiant Armor. It's not light," Willow commented, her eyes wide with fascination.
Willow came over, running her hands over the Radiant Armor. "Don't you think it's much more beautiful than the armor those knights wear?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with admiration.
She was no different from Ellie at first, and her father, Wyatt, was even more excited. He spent the whole day in the private storage room, staring at the Radiant Armor, and even had his meals there.
Thinking about this, Willow couldn't help but smile. Henry had asked her father to try on the armor that day, but her father had refused, saying that just looking at it was enough.
After returning home, Willow knew that her father had moved his set of knight armor from the most prominent place in the hall to his room.
"It's so beautiful. If those noble families knew, they would definitely spend thousands of gold coins to buy it," Ellie exclaimed.
"Alright, let's get your things," Willow said, taking the list and starting to gather the items.
Willow muttered, "Box number one, a notebook. Box number two, a pen..."
Ellie eagerly held the notebook. She knew that Mila had one, but she never let Ellie see it, claiming that Ellie would take it away.
Now, she had her own, along with a unique pen that was much better than the quill pens used by the nobles, which required smelly ink to write.
Most nobles used quill pens or sharpened reed pens, both of which required the ink of that period to write.
Willow said, "Box number seven contains a bar of soap. Box number nine contains a set of toothpaste and toothbrushes."
Ellie followed Willow, her eyes shining with each item.
Ellie asked, "Is my life now better than that of those nobles?"
"Yes, my father once said that the life here with Henry is better than that of a prince," Willow nodded.
Ellie stared in disbelief, "Really?"
Willow said, "Come here, box number thirteen, a pack of sanitary pads..."
Ellie asked, "What is this?"
Willow replied, "You can ask Mila tonight!" Willow blushed, remembering the first time she used that item. After Henry explained it to her, she avoided him for two days.
"Willow, why is your face red?" Ellie looked puzzled.
