Chapter 20 Are the Nobles the Greatest Bandits?

Carter was in a very good mood at the moment, looking at the five crystal glass cups on the table, each one sight could make him eat more.
He carefully picked up a glass, looked at the smooth and transparent cup, and could still see his reflection on it, which made him even more pleased.
"If Henry knew that these crystal glass cups are already being bid for at fifteen gold coins, I wonder how he would feel." Carter thought of it, feeling even happier.
He decided not to sell these five crystal glass cups and keep them as family heirlooms. Perhaps in another ten or twenty years, they might be worth a hundred gold coins.
There was a knock on the door, and then the door was opened, and Nathan hurried in.
The door was instantly closed with a loud sound.
"How many times have I told you, don't be so impatient." Carter reprimanded.
"Yes." Nathan took a deep breath and glanced at the glass, feeling a little better.
"So, Is Baron Omar unwilling to cooperate with us?" Carter asked, carefully wiping the glass.
"He is willing to cooperate, but he wants to recruit our knights, and he wants thirty of them."
Nathan said angrily, "We only have a total of forty knights, and he wants thirty of them, which is too much."
Forty knights, the entire military strength of Carter and Nathan, is one of the reasons they dare to sell the territory to Henry.
In a territory of five or six thousand people, they could only come up with forty knights. It should be said they were only to be able to afford forty knights.
It cost too much to raise a knight. A complete set of armor, weapons, and maintenance would cost several gold coins, as will war horses, salaries, and so on.
Carter can afford forty knights, because he had accumulated them over many years.
During the war, the knights became officers and then conscripted the peasants into the territory to form a makeshift army.
This was also the military model of this world, where everyone raised knights and used them as officers in times of war, which would save a lot of money.
"What else did Baron Omar say?" Carter's hand paused as he wiped the cup, and he was also taken aback by this request.
"He will give us twenty percent of the profit, and he also wants us to buy a hundred orc slaves," Nathan said angrily.
"Twenty percent?" Carter thought, lowering his voice, "Did he say to go and seize which city?"
"Hyratos, I heard that the city's defenses are very weak, and there are only about a dozen knights. Even if they conscript the peasants, there will be about a hundred people," Nathan quickly replied.
"Tell Baron Omar that we can send thirty knights and let them go and take Eldoria, by the way. I want Henry's head." Carter grinned, revealing a mouthful of black teeth, which looked very sinister in the reflection of the glass.
"Father? Why? Eldoria should not be worth much. Let him manage it for a while, and we will go to harvest in the spring. Isn't that good?" Nathan said in confusion.
Carter wiped another glass and said coldly, "The autumn harvest is coming; that batch of wheat should be worth a lot of money with Baron Omar's twenty percent profit, should be enough to buy a noble."
Nathan looked at the glass; his eyes widened, and he said in astonishment, "Dear Father, you want to give up Eldoria?"
He knew that his father was reluctant to sell the crystal glass cup, so he suddenly changed his attention and used other methods to raise money.
"That barren land was decreasing year by year. It is time to change a territory, and we buy a noble in a richer place." Carter said calmly.
"Who will buy Eldoria?" Nathan nodded in agreement, "Even if we sell it for a dozen gold coins."
"There is a big merchant who is willing to buy Eldoria for twenty gold coins and hopes to move into the castle next spring." Carter laughed lightly.
"Oh? Another fool?" Nathan said excitedly.
Carter wiped another glass, his face full of smiles, "These merchants are all very eager for the identity of a noble."
"Haha. It's ridiculous. With their smell of copper, are they also worthy of being noble?" Nathan sneered, his eyes full of disdain.
"Just a parvenus, not worth mentioning."
Carter waved his hand, paused, and said, "By the way, let the knights under yours pay attention, let them catch a few more female slaves, I heard that the big nobles on the mainland like thirteen, or fourteen-year-old girls, it should be able to sell for a good price."
"Alright," Nathan replied casually.
For the two of them, those lowly peasants were just a bunch of cattle and sheep waiting to be slaughtered, and they would be wrested when they were fertile.
"Right, Baron Omar wanted orc slaves, right? Go and buy another hundred orcs and send them to him. As long as you give them something to eat, those will fight to the death." Carter said as he wiped all five glasses.
"Okay, there are nothing but plenty of orc slaves. The slave traders bring some over every day." Nathan's face was full of disgust; for him, those orcs were no different from beasts.
"There are still about twenty days until the autumn harvest; those beasts should go crazy, and many will probably die this year."
