Chapter 135 The Bandits Flee!
The desperate cries of those on the brink of death and the terrified wails of the wounded filled the air.
"Help me! I don't want to die!"
The first volley of arrows had already claimed the lives of dozens, and as the soldiers advanced, they made sure to finish off the injured bandits with their swords.
"How is this possible?"
The second-in-command of the bandits was already panicking, his only thought being to escape and save his own life.
Unfortunately, it was too late. He was well within range of the recurve bows.
"Fire!" David commanded.
Another volley of arrows was released, their specially crafted arrowheads easily piercing through the bandit's armor, causing him to fall to the ground with three arrows embedded in his body.
"Run! Run for your lives! They're demons!"
The bandits armed with long spears dropped their weapons and fled, and the rain of arrows became their worst nightmare.
This attack had already claimed the lives of more than thirty bandits, but most of them managed to escape. This outcome did not satisfy David, and he ordered. "Forward!"
The sound of their synchronized and powerful footsteps filled the air, leaving the onlookers in shock. When did the bandits become so weak? No, it didn't take long for someone to realize that it wasn't the bandits who were weak but rather the soldiers led by Henry, who was exceptionally strong.
The chaotic retreat of the bandits immediately caught the attention of their leader, who frowned as he looked at his panicked subordinates.
"What's going on? Where is your leader?" he demanded.
"They're all dead!"
One of the bandits cried out, but his words were met with a swift sword strike from their leader, resulting in a spray of blood.
"Just a few deaths. You all knew what the consequences would be when you chose this path." The bandit leader said coldly. "Gather the troops and kill anyone who dares to resist us."
The bandits disguised as knights quickly mounted their horses, and apart from the few dozen who were attacking the walls and capturing the Lord of Hyratos, the rest of the bandits gathered together.
The sound of their synchronized footsteps, as if there were thousands of them, made the horses uneasy.
"Who are they?"
The bandit leader looked at the perfectly organized fifty-man formation, his brow furrowed. Were these fifty men the ones who killed his second-in-command?
He wasn't worried at all. These people only had a few war horses and posed no real threat. He wondered who had given them the courage to face the knights.
"Gather as a group and crush them." The bandit leader ordered, urging his horse forward with his sword drawn, and roared, "Charge!"
The bandits followed their leader and charged towards David and his group. More than one hundred knights charging on the 32-feet-wide street was a terrifying sight.
"Switch to the heavy crossbows and prepare the tank units." David calmly commanded.
Eldoria's military crossbows were divided into four types, including small, medium, large, and siege.
The small ones were used by the War Wolf Battle Squad for assassinations, and the medium ones were similar in size to regular longbows. The siege crossbows were still in the research stage, while the large military crossbows required two people to operate and had a terrifying penetrating power.
The order was given, and the spearman carrying the large crossbow quickly brought it down, propped it up on the shoulder of the person in front, and loaded it with three 59-inches steel bolts.
As the bandits approached within 164 feet of David and the others, David raised his hand and roared, "Fire!"
The air seemed to be torn apart as a whistling sound filled the air, and twenty large crossbows, along with more than sixty steel-tipped arrows, were densely fired.
"No." The bandit leader felt as if his body was being torn apart, and he was sent flying. It was the force generated by the steel bolts piercing through his body.
A single steel bolt could pierce through one person and two another, and the knight armor that made the bandits proud of, now it was as fragile as the paper.
The bandits at the front fell in large numbers, and the ones behind had not yet reacted. But the horses' momentum was still there, and the bandits rushed to David and the others, wielding ten flashing long knives.
"Kill!"
The tank unit, armed with long and sharp knives, easily cut down both men and horses.
"Charge!"
Gabriel roared as if venting all the anger he had accumulated before, his special knife slashing and sweeping because of the protection of the heavy armor, allowing the bandits' blades to cut into his body.
"No, run!"
Gabriel brandished his knife and charged into the bandit group, slashing at anyone he saw, his whole body drenched in blood.
The other teammates did the same, stepping forward step by step, leaving the bandits behind for the spear and shield soldiers to deal with.
Arrows flew from behind, shooting bandits.
It was a one-sided slaughter. The mounted bandits were quickly killed, while the long spear bandits, seeing something was wrong, turned and fled.
One after another, the remaining bandits fled, abandoning anything that weighed them down, afraid that they would be killed if they were slow.
The members of the tank unit were all covered in blood, panting heavily with their special knives, their strength depleted, each of them having killed more than ten people.
"Cavalry, attack!" David breathed a sigh of relief, raised his hand, and shouted, "Don't let a single one escape!"
"Yes!"
Those who were originally archers, slung their crossbows behind them and climbed onto the war horses at the back.
This time, only ten fully armed cavalrymen came, and they were used to chase and finish off the fleeing bandits.
With their swords in hand, the warhorses charged, heading straight for the fleeing bandits. Their task was to chase and then drive them away.
"Spear soldiers, shield soldiers, immediately pursue lightly." David swung his sword and killed a bandit who was trying to ambush him.
"Yes!"
The spear soldiers put down their heavy crossbows, and the shield soldiers put down their shields and started to chase with their knives.
"Henry! Be careful!" David was a little worried as the fleeing bandits were all heading in Henry's direction.
"Clear the bandits in the city, do not disturb the resident!"
"Yes!"
