Chapter 44 The Deity That Known Time
The night was moonless, shrouded in dense clouds with occasional flashes of lightning, a prelude to the impending rain.
Henry stood by the study window, gazing into the pitch-black night, lost in thought. Willow, Mila, and Ellie stood behind him, silently waiting.
Mila turned to Willow, her eyes filled with questions. Henry had been like this for half an hour, and she feared his kindness would turn into guilt.
Willow shook her head in silence. She knew Henry had many plans, and his contemplation was not out of guilt but rather strategic thinking.
Ellie, with a lollipop tucked in her small mouth, which she had snatched from under Mila's pillow, cocked her head and glanced at Willow, then at Henry's retreating figure, sensing that their relationship was far from simple.
The time it was passed slowly, with an unspoken tension in the air.
A knock on the door broke the silence of the study. Upon receiving permission to enter, Wyatt strode into the room confidently.
The sound of armor clashing rang out as Wyatt donned his knight's armor. Tonight was the first time the Eldoria was mobilizing its troops, and even though he wouldn't be on the front lines himself, he still needed to be prepared for battle.
In this era, knights primarily wore chainmail, a type of armor made of interlocking iron rings.
However, Wyatt wore a different kind of armor, an advanced version of chainmail crafted from thin iron plates.
Only the knights of the great nobles could afford to wear this armor, as it was very expensive to make. A set of knight's armor took a long time to craft, requiring a skilled blacksmith to spend half a year to produce one.
The disadvantage of this armor is its moderate protective ability. A slash from a sword could easily penetrate its defenses, and it also impeded the wearer's movements.
The advantage is that the knight's armor could provide full-body protection. The armor was light, weighing only around 33 pounds.
But for the martial forces of this era, knight's armor was considered top-tier equipment capable of perfectly blocking arrow attacks.
Of course, this was under the assumption that they didn't encounter Henry's army. An army equipped with recurve bows, crossbows, and special arrowheads could make knights in their armor doubt their life choices.
In this era, there was no concept of heavy armor. Chain mail and knight's armor were considered light armor. Meanwhile, Henry had already started the production of plate armor, modeled after ancient Earth's Radiant Armor, Black Hammer Armor, and Infantry Armor, with further improvements.
"Henry, we are ready to move," Wyatt said, his voice serious.
"What about their whereabouts? We don't leak anything, do we?" Henry's calm voice filled the room.
"No, they haven't noticed anything," Wyatt replied, a hint of killing intent in his eyes.
"Then let them make their move. It's time to get rid of some pests," Henry said, waving his hand.
Wyatt replied, "Yes." He saluted and swiftly left. He had to keep a close watch. Any mistakes from the newcomers would disappoint Henry, and he was ready to take lives.
"Henry, should I assist?" Mila caught up in the atmosphere, asked softly.
Henry shook his head and chuckled, "They are just cannon fodder meant to train the War Wolf Team. You overestimate them if you think they need your help."
"Fine." Mila agreed. After all, Henry's safety was paramount.
In the military camp, the War Wolf Battle Squad was fully armed and ready to strike.
The sound of armored footsteps in the distance heightened Leo's and others' focus.
Wyatt stood before the eight, his gaze sharp as he spoke, "Tonight's mission, no need for me to say more. You know what to do. I hope you won't disappoint Henry."
The eight remained silent, their years of hunting experience emanating a subtle aura of determination.
Wyatt said, "All the target information is here. You have only ten minutes to prepare."
Wyatt handed Leo a file containing the mission objectives and procedures. Providing the information at the last minute was also a test.
Leo took the file without a word and immediately began reviewing it. Those who had attended the recent night classes quickly identified the unfamiliar words and sought Wyatt's guidance.
Ten minutes they were passed quickly. Leo and the others burned the file, rechecked their equipment, and left the camp.
Carefully, Wyatt took out a pocket watch, checked the time, and then gently placed it back, patting his pocket. This divine object, called a wristwatch, was a gift from Henry. It's a sacred object that can tell the exact time. Even if Wyatt were offered a thousand gold coins, he wouldn't trade it.
In this life, he belonged to Henry, or rather, their whole family's fate was in Henry's hands.
Wyatt said, "Why can't people be content? Henry is such a good noble, yet they dare to covet it. They must be tired of living."
Wyatt looked into the pitch-black night and waved his hand. Several figures silently disappeared into the darkness.
It was a contingency plan he had learned from Henry. If the War Wolf Battle Squad failed, this group would be the final blow.
