Chapter 163 An Interdimensional Bank
"There are so many people!" Elisa's green eyes were full of vigilance, but she didn't let it show. She was now walking on the main road of Eldoria, looking at the bustling crowd. Everyone was talking and laughing, the scene which she hadn't seen in a long time.
The elves' sanctuary was destroyed. After escaping from the elven forest, all she saw in the human world was deceit and everyone trying to capture her for money.
Yet here, she found a sense of ease. At least, not everyone had a calculating look in their eyes. Perhaps it was because there was no hunger here.
Elisa looked at the wheat drying on the road. Everyone had food to eat, so why would they bother with schemes to fill their bellies?
"There are so many people over there." Elisa saw a long line of people ahead and couldn't help but walk over to take a look.
"It smells so good!"
As she got closer, Elisa caught a whiff of a rich aroma. She could clearly distinguish the scent of vegetables, meat, and mushrooms.
"What could it be? Why does it smell so good?" Elisa murmured as she walked toward the shop.
Elisa's green eyes sparkled. Her stomach was rumbling, and she was about to go and see what it was when she noticed three orc women approaching from the other side, which startled her.
The three orc women were exceptionally beautiful, and one of them she recognized, or rather, had seen before, back in Hyratos.
The beauty of these three orc women, Elisa could say, was only a tiny bit less than hers. If they were in the Royal City, they would be much more beautiful than those so-called most beautiful songstresses.
It was this that surprised Elisa. Three exceptionally beautiful orc women, openly walking in a human-populated area, not afraid of being eyed by humans and then captured and sold into slavery.
Elisa believed that these three beautiful orcs would be bought by those corrupt nobles at an exorbitant price and then be kept in dark rooms to be played with.
"No, there is another possibility." Elisa slowed her pace and immediately thought of a possibility.
These three orcs were slaves kept by the Eldoria's noble. Only in this way could they walk openly on the streets, because the commoners all knew these three orcs.
Elisa had seen such a situation before, like the most famous genius princess in the kingdom, Scarlett, who had an orc maid. This orc maid could walk in the Royal City, and no one dared to show her disrespect because she was Scarlett's maid.
The three approaching were Ellie, Emily, and Tess; Elisa's gaze fell on Tess, as she had seen Tess from a distance before, eating grilled fish.
"Ellie, weren't we going to buy hamburgers? How did we end up here?" Emily asked, puzzled.
"We were in a hurry when we left just now, and none of us brought any copper coins..." Ellie shook her head helplessly.
"I have one. Henry gave me a silver coin, saying it's my monthly salary," Tess exclaimed, holding her hand up.
"Henry also gave me my salary in advance, also a silver coin," Emily added a little sheepishly.
She was already provided for at the Lord's Manor, and yet she was given an exorbitant salary of a silver coin for less than a month's work as a teacher.
Elisa stood still, listening to the conversation as the three orc women passed by her. She wondered if she was hallucinating.
A silver coin for a month's salary? The knights in the kingdom, even those in the Royal Knight Order, might not even earn a silver coin in a month.
"A silver coin? You two idiots, why would you bring a silver coin to buy hamburgers? Do you want to count copper coins in front of the hamburger shop?" Ellie rolled her eyes and said impatiently, "I don't want to count a thousand copper coins in front of the hamburger shop!"
"It's okay to count." Tess didn't mind at all.
Emily shook her head, thinking about the people waiting in line to buy hamburgers, and said softly, "No, that would make the people behind us wait too long."
'What's a hamburger? Was it the long line we saw earlier?' Elisa wondered as she followed the three of them, now very curious about the three orc women, and also heard about using a silver coin to buy several copper coins, which indeed seemed a bit conspicuous.
"What should we do? I only have a silver coin!" Tess was a little anxious. She had come out with them just to try the hamburger that Mila mentioned before.
"Don't worry, let's go to the money exchange and change the silver coin into copper coins. Remember to let Willow exchange the silver coin for you next time you go out," Ellie sighed.
Emily was going back to the tribe tomorrow, so Ellie had to accompany Emily to buy some things, especially the hamburgers that Emily loved. Originally, it would have been enough to have the castle kitchen make some hamburgers, but Emily insisted on buying them from the hamburger shop, saying that it was the first time she had ever eaten a hamburger.
Ellie understood. After all, it was a matter of sentiment, just like her love for Roasted Vegetable Salad. Even if there were other foods that tasted better than Roasted Vegetable Salad, she just couldn't forget the feeling of eating it for the first time.
"A money exchange? What is that place?" Emily was a little confused. How come she had never heard of it?
"It's a place where you can exchange coins," Ellie said, "Like the steel coins we use, they are all kept in the money exchange, and some merchants go there to exchange for steel coins."
Ellie remembered that this money exchange was secretly opened by Henry, who said it was a preparation for opening something called a bank in the future. Anyway, she didn't understand what it meant.
"There is such a place?" Emily exclaimed.
Ellie's mouth curled up, and she said softly, "There will only be more and more magical things in the future."
"What are you talking about?" Tess tilted her head, looking confused, her waist-length purple hair swaying.
Ellie and Emily glanced at each other. Why did they feel that Tess was a bit silly and cute?
Elisa, who was following behind, was still in a daze. What was a steel coin? Since coming to this city, she had been hearing unfamiliar terms, feeling like an ignorant elf; especially at noon, Elisa began to doubt if her intelligence had decreased.
Elisa looked at Tess, as if she was seeing her own unlocking at noon, so foolish...
