Chapter 104 The First Surgery in the Otherworldly World
The location for the wharf at the Serene River has just been confirmed, and Henry was planning to explore the area near the Azure Peak Range, where he heard there was a bamboo forest and some valuable herbs.
Bamboo can be quite useful and serve as a temporary substitute for other resources, making it his primary consideration.
As Henry approached the carriage, he noticed David's somber expression, his brows furrowed as he asked, "Have there been any casualties?"
David paused slightly, then nodded, his voice grave as he said, "There's a soldier who's been gored by a buffalo. He's hanging on by a thread."
"What is he?"
Henry raised an eyebrow. He had anticipated injuries in the battle with the buffaloes, but a critical condition was beyond his expectations.
"The witch doctor has already examined him and said there's no hope. He's being sent back to Eldoria for..." David's voice trailed off.
Thinking of the doctor's sigh and shake of the head, David couldn't help but feel a sense of loss. They had spent over twenty days together, and now they had to bid farewell to one of their own.
"He's not a witch doctor; he's a military doctor." Henry retorted, his tone laced with annoyance.
The military doctor was equipped as Henry's order. Although the military doctor had no extraordinary medical skills, he could at least bandage wounds.
"Right, a military doctor." David corrected himself, having always referred to him as a witch doctor.
"How did it happen? Is it a fatal wound?"
Henry's primary concern was the injured soldier. If the wound were in a vital area, there would be no need for further action, and they could prepare for a funeral and compensation.
"While protecting his comrade, he was hit by a buffalo. Emerson managed to avoid any fatal injuries, but the wound kept bleeding, and no amount of bandaging seemed to help." David sighed. The loss of a soldier even before the battle had begun was a heavy blow.
Emerson was the name of the critically injured sword and shield soldier known for his exceptional training.
"Saving a comrade from injury, that's a merit!" Henry nodded, gesturing with his hand as he said, "Let's return to the city. Take me to see what's going on."
"Yes!"
"Have someone take this fast horseback to the castle and hand it over to Willow," Henry wrote a few words in his notebook before tearing the page off and handing it to Leo.
"Understood!"
Leo immediately instructed Number Eight to deliver the note and hasten back to Eldoria.
As the coachman, David, waited for Henry and Mila to board, escorted them back to Eldoria under the guard of the War Wolf Battle Squad.
Inside the carriage, Henry furrowed his brow, reflecting on the day's events. It served as a wake-up call, reminding him of the importance of teaching proper first-aid measures.
If soldiers were injured on the battlefield and didn't receive immediate treatment, they might lose their lives needlessly.
He was responsible for those soldiers' lives. Training a soldier, especially an elite one, was time-consuming and costly, and he had invested a great deal.
If there were still a chance to save Emerson, he would provide on-site training!
Mila moved to a half-kneeling position behind Henry, her slender hand resting on his shoulder, gently massaging, as she softly said, "Henry, don't blame yourself. It was an accident."
Henry shook his head. He didn't feel guilty; he was just contemplating suitable first-aid measures for this world.
The soothing sensation in his shoulder caused Henry to squint comfortably, his body relaxing. He decided to see if he could save the person first before anything else. His first aid knowledge was taught during military training at school, supplemented by what he had learned from watching television.
Soon, the carriage arrived back in Eldoria, stopping by the commercial street in front of a two-story building where a crowd had already gathered.
This building was the otherworldly version of a hospital that Henry had set up, with a few witch doctors, now called doctors, who treated minor ailments with traditional methods.
As Henry got off the carriage, he saw Charles, Brian, and several people in armor, some with red eyes, indicating their close relationship with Emerson.
The military was a place where brotherhood was easily formed, with fewer hidden agendas, as every day was about training.
"Henry!" The soldiers saluted respectfully.
Henry nodded and then walked quickly into the building, with Mila following closely behind and the three David brothers trailing. The War Wolf Battle Squad and others stood guard at the entrance.
In a clinic, Henry saw Emerson, who was critically injured and unconscious. After an examination, Henry gently touched the tightly wrapped bandages and realized the situation wasn't as dire as he had feared.
Looking around at everyone, Henry said, "He can still be saved, but he needs a blood transfusion due to severe blood loss."
"What?"
Everyone present stared at Henry in disbelief, wondering if they had misheard. How could someone who was essentially sentenced to death be saved?
Mila blinked her sky-blue eyes, resisting the urge to touch Henry's forehead. Last time, when treating Emily, it was said that a fever could damage the brain.
She suspected that Henry might be ill now. How could someone on the brink of death be brought back?
"Henry, are you just joking?" Charles's cheeks trembled, unable to believe it.
Henry glared at Charles, retorting irritably, "Do I look like I'm joking?"
David slapped Charles on the back of his head, punishing him for daring to question Henry. Charles shrank his neck, not daring to talk back anymore.
"Henry, the stuff is here." The voice of Number Eight came before the person did.
"Good, bring it over quickly." Henry urged.
What he had asked Number Eight to bring was a first-aid kit. To save someone, you definitely need equipment. Number Eight, panting heavily, placed the first-aid kit in front of Henry and then immediately stepped aside.
Emerson had fainted due to excessive blood loss. So, the first step to save him would be to transfuse blood, which meant blood typing was necessary.
"All the doctors, come over here. I'm only going to explain this once, so remember it well."
Henry beckoned, urging the doctors to come over quickly. This was a live, on-the-spot teaching moment.
