Chapter 149 The Sudden Assignment
Leo looked at the dishes in front of him with a bitter expression. In the past, he might have found the salty boiled meat exciting, but ever since he started eating at the canteen, he couldn't stand the taste. He wondered how the knights could eat it.
"Sir, is the food not to your liking?" asked a Hyratos knight, puzzled. They didn't have such delicacies every day.
"I already ate," Leo forced a smile, feeling disappointed. This was supposed to be a noble's banquet? These were the noble knights? He was thoroughly let down.
Leo knew he wasn't a knight. Others called him one, but he never cared. He was just a soldier under Henry's command, albeit a special one. He felt he was better off than these knights.
In the past, Leo might have aspired to be a knight, but now, especially after seeing these knights, his dream was shattered. The reality was harsh; knights had to fight for their share of the meat.
"What a pity. Let me tell you, these dishes were prepared by the best chef in Hyratos. Only on special occasions does the lord reward us with such a feast. Today, it's all thanks to Lord Henry and the Eldoria knights that we can enjoy this meat," a Hyratos knight explained.
"Indeed, have some more. The banquet isn't ending soon. Enjoy the meat and have some oat wine," another Hyratos knight urged Leo, while they themselves continued to eat.
"I can't. It's against the rules to drink while on duty," Leo declined. Drinking during a mission was forbidden, and no one dared to break that rule.
"What duty? It's a banquet now," a knight said, puzzled.
Leo smiled faintly. By 'duty', he meant his duty to protect Henry. He only had free time when he was back at the camp or on leave.
"Really? This salted meat has been marinated for three hours, very flavorful," a knight said, holding a piece of meat and a hard piece of bread.
"You all enjoy. I already ate before coming," Leo said, secretly patting his empty stomach. He would rather have some dry rations than this salty boiled meat.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed from light to heavy. Leo knew someone was coming from the inner hall, and he could tell it was Henry from the rhythm.
Leo immediately stood up, much to the confusion of the knights at his table. He positioned himself by the door, standing straight with his hands at his sides.
Soon enough, Henry emerged from the inner hall, followed by Mila and some noble girls who were seeing them off.
Henry saw Leo and the dishes on the table in the outer hall. He lightly patted Leo's shoulder, understanding the situation.
"Let's go. It's late," Henry said, walking toward the exit, with Mila following.
"Yes, sir," Leo replied.
Leo positioned himself in front of the noble girls, ensuring no one got too close to Henry. He ignored the resentful glances from the girls.
As they left the mansion, the War Wolf Battle Squad emerged from the shadows, surrounding Henry and Mila. Henry refused the carriage offered to him, ignoring the coquettish looks from the noble girls, heading toward the dock.
After a short distance from the mansion, Mila asked in a low voice, "Henry, what is that milk tea?"
"Made from goat's milk," Henry replied mysteriously. He was referring to the powdered milk production method from Earth, but with the addition of tea powder and sugar.
Eldoria had a limited number of goats, but they could still produce around twenty pounds of powdered milk a month. Henry sold a pound of powdered milk for twenty silver coins, which meant he could earn a gold coin from five pounds.
Once large-scale farms were established in the future, it would be a highly profitable industry. Henry suddenly realized that Eldoria would truly become a land of wealth.
But he also thought about the necessary infrastructure and investments. All the money earned had to be put back into the development. This was the cycle of the market, and letting gold coins gather dust in the warehouse was the most foolish thing to do.
When would the nobles' warehouses be filled with gold coins? And what would they gain? A barren piece of land?
"But how do you turn goat's milk into milk tea? It's just like a liquid," Mila had been thinking about how to make milk tea from goat's milk.
"You'll see," Henry chuckled, looking up at the Milky Way in the night sky. The starry sky of the other world was truly beautiful.
They continued to walk leisurely, and by 8:30, they were close to the dock.
"Leo!" Henry suddenly called out.
"Yes!" Leo immediately came to Henry's side, bowing his head slightly.
"You should have found out where Omar is being held today, right?" Henry's voice was devoid of emotion.
"We did. He's in a castle to the west of Solanis, and the security isn't very tight..." Leo reported the crucial information.
Henry fell silent for a moment and calmly said, "Two horses per person, bring Omar back alive. The fleet will set sail tomorrow at noon."
"Yes, sir!"
Leo led the three of them into the darkness. They needed to prepare and leave immediately.
Leo understood Henry's intention. They had to rush to Solanis tonight, capture their target, and return before noon the next day. That's why they needed the extra horses.
"Why don't we just kill him?" Mila didn't understand. Omar had orchestrated the bandit attack and should have been dealt with long ago.
"Death, how simple it was. Just a moment of pain, and then he's free. All the crimes he made were completely washed away," Henry's dark eyes flickered, his voice deep. "It's not good. There is a place that would be perfect for him."
If Henry wanted to kill Baron Omar, he could have sent the War Wolf Battle Squad, and they would have brought back his head in no time. Would that have made any sense?
It would have been meaningless. There was nothing more terrifying than being stripped of their status for a pampered noble. Henry wanted to send Baron Omar to the mines, an underground pit of despair.
It was a place where only the condemned should go.
