Chapter 84 The Otherworldly Hamburger Joint

Emily and Ellie, after a playful interaction, quickly grew comfortable with each other's presence.
Emily's ears perked up, catching snippets of the humans' conversations. Many expressed curiosity about her.
"Is this beautiful female orc the new assistant?"
The city was indeed a place of wonders, and Emily found herself intrigued by the Lord she had yet to meet.
Emily thought, 'Could there really be nobles who don't despise elves, who allow them to live on their lands and even issue orders to protect them?'
Emily's perspective slowly began to shift, though her skepticism remained.
As they arrived at the commercial street, Ellie and Emily were taken aback by the bustling hamburger shop.
The commercial street leading to the Lord's Manor was lined with various stores.
The shops were still under renovation, with wooden scaffolding set up outside. Inside, the sound of hammering and construction can be heard. It may not be fully completed until winter.
However, one or two places were already operational, such as the hamburger shop that just opened. It has two floors—the lower floor is where the hamburgers are made and sold, while the upper floor is for dining.
The hamburger shop opened by Henry has already attracted a long line of customers, with people occasionally joining the queue.
"Hamburgers are so delicious, soft, and much tastier than the bread we make at home, and they're not expensive either!"
"I heard that the soldiers eat this every morning. If only I had applied back then, I could have been a soldier, too.
"Don't joke around; passing Henry's trial is not that easy."
Conversations like these occasionally reached Ellie and Emily's ears. Ellie didn't pay much attention, but Emily was quite surprised. Are these things called hamburgers really that delicious?
The sound of a hungry stomach echoed, indicating that Emily was hungry. Last night, Willow fed her some grits, which she had already digested.
Emily's face turned slightly red as she occasionally looked up at people walking by with delicious-looking hamburgers. The scent of pork and bread filled the air, making her salivate.
"Let's hurry and get in line, or they might sell out." Ellie grabbed Emily and ran towards the back of the queue.
This was a new experience for Emily - queuing to buy something. She remembered the queues in other cities, where people crowded the store entrances, shouting and demanding to be served first.
"It's Miss Ellie! Please, come ahead of me."
"Yes! Miss Ellie, you work so hard. Please take care of Henry and don't let him overwork. Just tell us what to do; we're here to help him."
"Don't bother Miss Ellie, let her through."
People recognized Ellie and knew she was Henry's assistant, so they made way for them to move to the front of the line.
Emily's light red eyes narrowed. Emily thought, 'What kind of experience is this? Just by having a connection with that Lord, could an orc receive so much respect? Could I do the same? If one day, the humans respectfully say, "Miss Emily, you've worked hard." Could the orc refuse such an experience?'
Well, Ellie and Emily couldn't possibly refuse. The crowd parted, creating a path for them to move forward. Ellie quickly pulled Emily along.
"It's Miss Ellie. What can I get you? We have meat hamburgers, mushroom-filled vegetarian hamburgers, and large white bread buns today."
The shop owner immediately recognized Ellie and began introducing the available hamburgers. He knew these were simplified versions of the burgers from the Lord's Manor. It was said that the Lord's burgers had thin crusts and plenty of meat filling, and they were unforgettable with just one bite.
"I'll have eight meat hamburgers, four vegetarian hamburgers, and two buns, please. Separate them." Ellie expertly placed the order, even though it was her first time buying hamburgers - she had been too preoccupied with the candy counter.
"Sure, just a moment. It'll be ready soon." The shop owner picked up paper bags, opened the display cabinet, and used tongs to pack the hamburgers.
Soon, the hamburgers were ready, divided into two portions, and placed in two large paper bags.
Paper bags were popular in Eldoria, and everyone used them when shopping. This was also a new product from the research department.
"Here you go, Miss Ellie. That will be five copper coins and six steel coins!" The shop owner politely handed Ellie the two bags.
Since this was Henry's shop and Ellie was an employee, she couldn't receive any discounts, as instructed during training.
"Thank you!" Ellie took six copper coins from her pocket and received four steel coins back.
"Let's go!" Ellie handed Emily one bag of hamburgers and thanked the crowd, "Thank you for making way!"
"Miss Ellie, it's our pleasure."
Ellie just smiled and led the dazed Emily out of the crowd. For Emily, this was a completely new experience - when could she have imagined buying things in a human shop?
"Isn't it amazing?" Ellie looked up at the crowd, joy in her brown eyes. "Half a month ago, I couldn't believe it either."
Who would have thought that half a month ago, she was someone hiding in a cave waiting for Mila to return and then boldly barging into Henry's room?
But now, everything had changed, all because of her boldness and initiative.
Emily fell silent, gazing at the hamburger in her hand, feeling a bit lost. She thought, 'Whose fault is it for my parents' death? Could it not be blamed on the nobility?'
"Don't overthink it! Just follow your heart!" Ellie quipped playfully, taking a big bite of her hamburger, her words muffled with a full mouth.
"Henry is not like the other nobles; he is special. You'll understand once you meet him."
"And don't compare those despicable nobles to Henry; it tarnishes his image."
Emily stared at Ellie, who now looked quite serious, and realized that perhaps a more solemn demeanor suited her better than one with a face stuffed full of hamburger.
Those words made Emily's heart tremble slightly as she looked at the hamburger in her hand. Emily thought, 'Different kind of nobility?'
Transformation of the soul often occurs in the subtle details of everyday life.
