Chapter 30 City Planning in Another World
Vincent left with deep doubts, increasingly unable to understand Henry's actions.
Is there really a nobleman willing to sacrifice so much for commoners? Vincent had been to several cities and had never seen such a nobleman.
He had only encountered a few kind-hearted noblewomen who would give some hard bread as tough as wood to the starving commoners in the city.
Looking at the things recorded on the scroll, as long as one worked for Henry, they could receive a pound of wheat or a day's meal.
Isn't this helping all the commoners in Eldoria? Does Henry know about the despicable actions of those grain merchants? But such relief would bankrupt Henry.
Work for Henry? It's still twenty days until the harvest. Apart from harvesting wheat, there's not much work to do.
Under the scroll, Vincent also saw some strange notices. Henry was planning to reorganize Eldoria, intending to demolish and rebuild several areas of houses, providing a new house to the original owners based on the size of the land.
Perhaps those willing to sell land, the Lord's Manor could purchase it, calculated at 20 copper coins for ten square feet.
Vincent couldn't understand this. Demolishing those dilapidated houses and then providing a new house after rebuilding, wouldn't everyone be clamoring to give their old houses to Henry?
As for those selling land, Vincent couldn't fathom who would be so foolish. Twenty copper coins for ten square feet of land—currently in the city, it costs over thirty copper coins for ten square feet, requiring a family to work for a month to buy a few dozen square feet.
Originally, they were old houses, yet after rebuilding, they could own new ones.
The more Vincent read, the more he wanted to go back and tell Henry to retract these orders. This seemed like a loss. But considering he was just a commoner, he didn't have the courage to question anything.
"I hope Henry's decision won't go wrong. A good Lord like him is hard to find." Vincent left with the scroll.
Willow, who shared the same doubts, watched Vincent leave, placing the snacks on the desk. The document was what Henry had read, and she had transcribed it.
"Henry, as per your request, the gold coins in the treasury won't last long," Willow voiced her doubts.
Henry chuckled lightly, "What, do you think I'm at a loss too?"
"Well..." Willow hesitated, softly nodding, "Henry, by rebuilding houses for everyone for free and providing wheat, you're definitely at a loss."
"Haha..." Henry laughed, taking out a blueprint from the drawer and placing it in front of Willow. "Take a look at this."
Curiously, Willow took the blueprint, her eyes widening in surprise.
The drawing depicted a magnificent city with broad streets, two-story high houses, and trees lining the roads neatly.
"Henry, is this the city you want to rebuild?" Willow asked in astonishment.
Henry nodded affirmatively, smiling, "Yes, each two-story building can accommodate more than one house. Building one can be exchanged for several plots of land, so there's no loss at all. The extra houses can be sold.
"Moreover, constructing these houses requires labor. I can pay in wheat as wages or provide a day's meal. This way, the wheat from those grain merchants won't sell.
"Of course, the premise is that the wheat can be smoothly transported back from other cities tomorrow; otherwise, this plan will be delayed for a few days."
Henry's method was similar to that of real estate companies on Earth. For instance, if you had a piece of land but no money to build a house and didn't want to sell the land.
The developer would help you build a twenty- or thirty-story building, with five floors designated for you, while the rest belonged to the developer.
Willow understood. She knew about the magical cement, where by offering wheat or meals as wages, they could bring about change in Eldoria.
Having many new houses not only struck a blow to the grain merchants but also ensured the commoners wouldn't starve, relying on labor to obtain food and own new houses.
With nearly two thousand people working in Eldoria with cement, it wouldn't take long to build many houses.
"Henry, you're truly amazing," Willow's excited face blushed, her chest rising and falling rapidly, her eyes moist, gazing at Henry with admiration.
To a girl, a capable man was like a powerful magnet, exceptionally attractive.
Sensing Mila's strange gaze, Henry coughed lightly.
Willow snapped out of it, blushing, covering her face, and ran away shyly. She had been infatuated.
Henry chuckled and shook his head, turning to the calm and quiet Mila, asking, "You seem a bit off today. Are you worried about the orcs appearing in the forest?"
Mila hesitated, feeling a bit flustered. She was indeed worried about the orcs, which reminded her of Ellie.
Although she believed Ellie should be on her way to the south with the orcs, what if Ellie hadn't gone? She wanted to confirm the sudden appearance of the orcs.
But Mila was afraid Henry would misunderstand and think she had attracted the orcs. She didn't know why, but she didn't want Henry to misunderstand her.
"Go ahead; this is your eternal home. Just remember to come back," Henry smiled gently.
"I'll be back tonight!" Mila swayed her hips, flicked her tail, and stepped outside, a captivating smile on her lips.
"Nowhere else has such a good Lord!"
