Chapter 26
Chapter 26
“God, he really looked shocked when he saw you, right?” Elene added,
Amelia nodded. Elene was right. The shock and surprise was written all over Levi’s face. The man couldn’t deny the fact that he was caught off guard because of her presence. He was unable to hide the emotions that he had the moment that he saw her.
“Yes, he is indeed though he’s talking blandly but like what I have said, I came here for work and nothing else. His offer for my duty is just so tempting that I cannot say no for my answer,” she replied. She needed to earn money. That's why even if she was aware that her ex-boyfriend would be the patient, she just accepted it.
She had no idea what would happen to her, but she tried to get herself ready anyway. She was just hoping that Levi wouldn’t try to bring back the past because she would never know what to tell him. She was not ready for that kind of confrontation yet. She was there for work, to be his personal therapist and nurse and nothing else. She should put that in her mind so she wouldn’t lose her focus.
“Yes, that’s true. I suggested that to his parents,” she said, which made her eyes go wide. She couldn’t believe what started to pop inside her mind.
“Really?” She asked the woman full of disbelief.
“Yes,” Elene nodded and then proudly replied.
“Well, I just hope you are not behind this. Please, don’t tell me that you suggested this, right?” She asked because she would really pinch her best friend if she would say yes.
“What if I say yes?” Elene said and then after that she winked at her.
She just shook her head at what her best friend had done. It seemed like she was trying to play cupid just like what she had done three years ago to her and Levi. She was young and naïve at that time. She was impulsive with every decision that she was making so she was doubting if what her best friend was doing would work for them. Actually, even with Levi.
Amelia put her things in the proper place while Elene was playing with her phone. Since they always see each other almost every day, most of the time, they had nothing to talk about aside from the patients that they encounter every day in the hospital.
Suddenly, she remembered something.
“Girl, it’s a good thing that he didn’t ask why you are here,” she said, breaking the silence that was between the two of them.
“Actually, he did,” she answered without looking at her.
“Oh, really? Then what did you tell him?” She said full of curiosity in her voice.
“I have a source,” Elene replied as she couldn’t remove her eyes from the phone. She didn’t even bother to lift her head and look at her.
“That’s it?” She said full of disbelief.
She nodded.
“Yes, that’s it. He didn’t ask anything else. I don’t know if he is convinced or not but I think my acting skills are superb and they worked, aren't they?” She asked and now she was already looking at her.
She nodded at her best friend. She couldn’t agree more with what she had said.
“Yes, you can even win an Oscar Award because of that. I am impressed and I am speechless as you two didn’t give me a chance to talk,” she replied.
“Oh, I am sorry about that,” Elene said and then after that they giggled. “Are you done unpacking? Let’s go out of the room. I am already hungry,” she added.
But before they could reach the door, they heard a knock from outside.
Elene pushed the door open and it was Aunty Beth who was standing outside of the room.
“Miss Elene and Miss Amelia, the lunch is already ready and Sir Levi is already calling you,” she said as soon as she saw them.
“Thank you, Aunty Beth. We are coming now,” Elene replied and then they all headed to the dining room.
When they got in the dining room, Levi was already there. He started to eat when they were both sitting on opposite sides while Levi was in the middle of them.
They were very quiet while they were having their meal when Levi suddenly spoke.
“Cousin, are you going to sleep here?” He asked Elene.
“Well, I love too but I cannot,” she simply said.
“Oh, why? Your best friend is here. Isn’t it most of the girls would spend a lot of time when they miss each other? Especially that you haven’t seen each other for a long time. I don’t think one day is enough for your chit chat,” he said while looking at Elene and Amelia.
“Hmmm… Yeah but I have work for tomorrow. Maybe, next time. I will see to it that I am going to spend my day off here so just be ready,” Elene said after that she winked at him.
The meal was finished harmoniously.
Amelia just focused on the food, and she didn’t speak at all. She was just quietly listening to the conversation of Elene and Levi.
She couldn’t help but feel nervous once Elene leaves. She didn’t know how Levi would treat her after that. He was being civil because they were around other people.
“Sir Levi, can we check the schedule of your medicine? Do you have any medicine to take after a meal?” She asked. For the first time since she had arrived at the town house, she opened her mouth and spoke to the man.
She knew that she couldn’t remain silent because whether she liked it or not, she had to deal with Levi.
Levi nodded.
“Yes, I have. Come with me, the medicines are in my room,” Levi said to her.
Amelia felt like her heart was pounding so fast inside her rib cage while she was pushing his wheelchair.
