Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Elene continued speaking as if she couldn’t feel the awkwardness between her and Levi.

Amelia was just listening to the conversation of Elene and Levi.

“Get out,” Levi said in an authoritative tone which made Elene laugh. No one could really defeat her from being a good teaser. She would always find ways to nitpick.

Elene just shook her head and it was obvious that she was not affected with the tone of the voice of her cousin.

“Best, I am going,” she said as she turned to her. “Just send me a message anytime you need help, okay?” Elene said as she looked at her.

“Dream on. As if she will send you a message. Of course, she will just disappear without a trace again,” Levi murmured but that didn’t escape their ears.

Elene scoffed. It was as if she couldn’t believe that she had heard those words from her cousin.

“Bitter!” Elene suddenly shouted which made her startled then without any word, she left both of them.

Silence filled the room as both of them seemed to be lost at their own thoughts.

“Hey, are you just going to stand there?” Levi broke the silence that was between the two of them.
Amelia immediately sat on the bed next to him as she was startled with the almost growling voice of the man. She started to flip the book cover.

“Where have you been?” All of a sudden, Levi asked her which stunned her. She knew that it was a question she should expect but not on her first day of work.

Amelia just looked at him.

“Does it really matter to you?” She asked while her eyes were on the book.

She couldn’t look him into the eyes because she couldn’t figure out what exactly she should be saying.

“Yes,” Levi said in a firm voice. It was clear that the man was demanding for an answer as to why she was gone like a bubble three years ago.

How she wished that the earth would open and swallow her so she vanished in front of the man. She didn’t know what she should be telling him, a lie or the truth behind the reason for her disappearance three years ago.

Amelia let out a deep sigh.

“Please remember that I came here because of work and nothing else,” she replied as she was trying to calm herself. She was glad about this conversation. She had already prepared herself as to how she would be answering it. Because she believed that one day or sooner that she expected, Levi would be asking those questions to her.

“I know, Amelia. But we both know that we still have unfinished business,” he said, and she could feel his gaze on her. “I couldn’t help but wonder why you even accepted this job. How come you still have the face to show up to me after you left me?”

Those words felt a sting inside her heart, but Amelia didn’t allow herself to be carried by her emotions. To be emotional was the last thing that she could do at the moment.

She knew that Levi was emotional as well because of his current situation so if she would let her emotions carry her away, they wouldn’t understand each other.

“Look, that happened three years ago. So, why bother? And, as far as I know you have already moved on,” she said. Her answer was just safe.

She saw when Levi nodded.
“So, it means that you have already moved on. Aren’t you?” He asked as if he was trying to confirm what she was feeling.

She couldn’t believe that Levi would be making a big deal out of this.

Amelia nodded her head as an answer to his question.

“Yes, I am so I don’t think there is a sense talking about this,” she replied in a firm tone. She saw when Levi suddenly went silent.

She could see his face dimmed after he heard what she said.

“You may go now. Don’t read that book. I just want to take a rest,” he said and that made her speechless. She quietly stood up and then she put the book where it was before.

She looked at Levi whose eyes were already closed.

“Just call me when you need anything,” she said and then after that she walked out of the room.

Levi couldn’t help himself but ask those questions from Amelia. He knew that it didn’t make any sense because he had been in another relationship after the woman was gone.

But the way that they were talking to each other, he could feel that both of them were full of pride which he couldn’t understand why.

It was as if they had a fight before she left, and he knew that never happened. She just left him without a word.

If only Amelia knew how he had suffered for a long time because of her sudden disappearance, she would understand why he was demanding an answer. Elene, his cousin, was the witness of those sufferings.

He couldn’t help but wonder because he found himself wishing that Elene could tell him the reason why she left without a word. He didn’t care if the woman still loved him or not, he just wanted to know the reason why the woman left him behind three years ago.

Even though it was so impossible for them to get back together for all he knew, the woman was already married, and she already had her own family. Besides, he was almost about to get married if he only didn’t get into an accident.

He almost had the life that he was dreaming of with Cameron. But in just a snap of a finger, everything in his life had changed.

Levi took a deep breath as he thought about the situation that he had at the moment. Was it fate that made him, and Amelia meet again? Was the woman already happily married? Or did she already have a boyfriend?
