Chapter 41

Doctor Sandoval finally checked Levi and when they were done, he advised him to go to the hospital so they could perform a check with his spinal status as he could see big improvement from him.

He couldn’t quite imagine that Levi’s situation improved a lot in just a short period of time. He must admit that Amelia was really good when it comes to encouraging him to recover quickly.

Levi couldn’t deny that the woman played a great role when it comes to his recovery.

“Thank you, Doc. You can have lunch here before you go back to Manila,” Levi suggested.

“Thank you, Mr. Alvarez. I will definitely accept the invitation, the doctor replied.

“Come and we can go outside in the garden while we are waiting for our food to be ready,” he felt when Amelia started to push him, and they headed to the main door while Doctor Sandoval was walking next to him.

They just stepped out of the house when his phone suddenly rang.

Levi quickly took his phone from the pocket of his polo shirt and then he looked at the screen to see who was calling him. He quickly swiped the answer button to answer the call that was coming from his mother.

He didn’t know why all of a sudden, he felt his heart was pounding so fast and he couldn’t explain why as he was feeling that way as soon as he saw his mother’s name.

“Hello, mom. You called?” He quickly asked his mother as soon as their call got connected. His heart was already hammering inside his chest.

“L--- Levi,” he heard his mother sobbing from the other line. His heart rate doubled compared to it’s rate earlier. He was confused why his mother was crying.

He felt like his knees were softening because of the sounds that he was hearing from the other line.

“Mom, what’s wrong? What happened” He asked as his eyebrows were knitted together and he couldn’t hide the worry that he had for his mother. He was unable to control his emotions and he had made his voice louder enough to call the attention of the two people that were sitting in front of him.

“Y--- your dad, he is in the hospital. He is in a coma,” his mother continued while she was still sobbing.

Levi felt like there was a bomb that was dropped in front of him after he heard what his mother had said.

“What are you saying, mom? How could that even have happened? When and why?” He asked one after the other. He felt like his hand was already trembling.

He hated himself because as much as he wanted to rush and be for her mother he couldn’t. He was unable to stand up and go to her. He felt sorry for himself.

“I--- I couldn’t believe it too, son. He just fainted during their meeting and now he is already in a coma,” his mother said, and she kept crying on the other line.

Levi felt like his heart was going to explode as he heard of what happened to his father. He never thought, never in his wildest imagination that he thought that something might have happened to his dad. He was healthy so why did this happen to him? He was taking care of him without knowing that this could happen to himself.

He wanted to blame himself because his father had been tired with the business and at the same time he was also looking after him after the accident. He was busy with the company and at the same time he was thinking about him.

He tried to calm himself. He couldn’t show emotions, especially since his mother already broke down. He had to be strong for the two of them. He had to show his mother that they can get through these times.

“Mom, please don’t cry. I am going back there now,” he said and then he ended the call. He couldn’t bear to hear the sound of the cry of his mom. He knew that he had to take all the courage that he had because there would be no way that he would be staying in Subic and let himself be stuck in the wheelchair.

Despite his situation, he knew that this was a moment that his family needed him and he had to go back there to be with his mom.

He looked at Amelia and Doctor Sandoval. After that, he called Uncle Mon. He already decided. He needed to do what he was supposed to be doing a long time ago but his parents just let him do everything that he wanted first.

“Uncle Mon,” he shouted as he was trying to hide all the emotions that he had inside of him. He felt like he was going to explode because of the emotions inside his heart.

“Mr. Alvarez, what happened?” It looked like Doctor Sandoval was unable to hold himself. He could sense the concern in his voice as he asked him.

“My mother called, and she said that my dad is in the hospital. He is in a coma,” he replied and then he saw Uncle Mon approaching their direction. He had to act as fast as he could. He didn’t want to regret anything. He had to fly back there as soon as he could.

He was fighting back the tears that were trying to come out from his eyes. A lot of things had already happened and he couldn’t show any weakness. He wouldn’t want those people who were judging him to think that this was happening to his family because of him.

“Uncle Mom, please prepare the car. We need to go to the fields. The chopper will come soon to pick me up. I am coming back to Manila. My parents need me,” after that he looked at Amelia. He could see the concern and worry in her face.
