Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Amelia covered her mouth as her eyes went wide when she heard what Harper had said. For a couple of seconds, she was trying to process everything that she had heard from the woman.

She was surprised. Harper just said that Leonard was not Logan’s son, but he was just adopted.

And for some reason, she couldn’t help but think that the little boy was her son. But at the same time, she was thinking that it was impossible because according to her mother, Luke’s twin was already dead though she didn’t get the chance to even see her son. She was so weak at that time that she gave birth to her children. She was so young that she almost died because of the pain. Though before she lost consciousness, she heard the sound of the cry of her babies.

She felt the sadness that crossed her heart when she remembered her little child who didn’t get the chance to see the beauty of the world. Her child who had been taken away from her so early. There were still times that she was wishing that Luke’s twin was alive.

“So, when is Leonard’s birthday?” She couldn’t help but ask. She couldn’t deny the sudden curiosity that aroused in her chest. She could feel her heart hammering while she was waiting for the woman’s answer.

Amelia wanted to pull her hair so she could think straight. Why was she feeling that Leonard was her child? Did she really think that the person came to the extent of taking away one of the twins from her? She doubted it but still she couldn’t help but think that way towards Leonard.

But before Harper could even answer her, they heard a loud shout from the little boy.

"Mom... Mom…" Leonard shouted as his pacifier fell on the floor. She picked up his pacifier while Harper got a clean pacifier in his baby's bag.

She couldn’t help but stop and looked at the little kid. Leonard really looked like Luke so she couldn’t blame herself for thinking that he was her child.

It didn’t take a while and the three of them almost visited every kid’s shop. She wanted to buy for Luke but she had to control herself. They don’t have any place where she could hide the things and she was afraid that Levi would ask about it once he saw the stuff. She found explaining and lying at the same time so difficult.

It was not easy at all because she was afraid that she might slip her tongue and reveal her secret in her own mouth. She didn’t want to keep anything from the people around her, but the situation had left her no choice. It was something that she never wanted to do but she needed to do for the sake of a peaceful life.

She had a secret, and she was trying to hide it to Levi. She was thinking that it was not yet the right time for her to tell him the truth. A lot of things happened to the man, and she felt like these were so much for him to bear. And, aside from that, she didn’t know what the level of their relationship was. She was also thinking how the man would take the truth about her child.

They went to the toy stores after they got clothes for Leonard. They bought some for his daily use and everything that the little boy needed.

According to Harper, Leonard was changing his wardrobe every six months. It seemed that the boy was spoiled by Logan. It seemed that the man was giving everything that the little boy could have even if he was not his biological son. If Logan was already like this with Leonard, how much more if he had his own son? His own flesh and blood.

She couldn’t believe that he was not really his child. The boy was just under his care when he was born, and she had no idea when the little boy's birthday was.

She was looking at Harper and Leonard. Amelia knew that one of these days, she would be doing something in order to discover the mystery behind Logan’s child.

“Amelia, take that toy. I think that’s good for him since he is already two years old. He will enjoy that,” she said as she was pointing to the blocks in the corner.

“Do you think so?” She said while looking at her. As if she was wondering how she knew about it.

Amelia nodded. She was sure of that because those were one of the toys that she bought for Luke, and she knew that her child was enjoying it.

“Yes,” she replied.

“Amelia, it seems that you know a lot when it comes to baby stuff, you know? About clothes, like what’s comfortable for them and what’s the good size. Do you already have a baby?” Harper asked which made her speechless.

She felt her heart pounding so fast because of Harper’s question. Was that really obvious?

Amelia swallowed a lump of her throat. She didn’t know if it was even the right time for her to trust Harper. They just met and she didn’t know if it was safe for her to know her secret. Her darkest secret that she was not prepared for Levi to know.

She felt her heart pounding so fast as she looked at the woman. She was scared and she was having a second thought. What if Harper wouldn’t be able to control herself and she would tell her secret, especially the thing about Luke?

So, she quickly erased the thought of sharing to the woman her darkest secret. It’s not that she didn’t trust her but it’s better to be safe than for her to have regrets later.
It’s better to be safe than sorry. She didn’t want to put herself in a situation that she wouldn’t know what to do next and of course, her son.
