Chapter 94

“I will explain to you later. Let me just finish my work,” Elene said as she excused herself and left her at the nursing station.

She was shocked and at the same time confused about what was happening. She couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with her best friend. She could feel that someone could be behind what happened to her best friend and her fiancé.

Amelia couldn’t understand but she had a different kind of feeling. She was busy with her work, and she didn’t notice the time if not for the call she received from Levi. She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, so she took it.

“Hello, babe,” Levi said as soon as she answered the phone.

“Hello,” she answered.

“I am sorry, but I cannot pick you up again. As I am going to attend another meeting about a new project to be built in the nearby place,” he said.

“Don’t worry. I understand,” she said and made her voice lively. “But are you going to have dinner with me?”

“Yes, please make dinner for us. I am going home to have dinner with you,” Vito said in a low but sweet voice.

“Alright, I will wait for you then. Please take care.”
“Yes, take care as well. I love you.”
“I love you too,” she said, and their call didn’t take a while and it ended.

After she put down her mobile phone, Amelia checked her wristwatch. It was time for her to leave. She decided to go to her locker and changed her outfit. She took everything that she needed and left.
She saw the same car yesterday that picked her up. She couldn’t help but wonder if it was Vito again that would be picking her up. So, she opened the door from behind.

It was Ariel, the family driver of the Alvarez’s family.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Amelia,” the man greeted her as soon as he saw her.

“Good afternoon, Ariel,” she greeted back after that silence between them.

She was done cooking their meal and she had already prepared the table but still Levi was not at home.

She went to the living room and decided to watch the news while waiting for him. After a couple of minutes, Amelia’s phone suddenly rang. She received a message from Levi.

“Babe, I am sorry. Please, don’t wait for me. I cannot make it. I am stuck at work. Please, you can have your dinner alone. I will just make up with you,” Levi said in his message.


“Okay, I understand. Please take care,” she said to the man.
Amelia just sent her reply to Levi when her phone rang again. She thought it was the man, but she quickly answered it when she saw that the call was from her mother.

“Amelia, I brought Luke to the emergency room,” her mother said, and she was trying to speak calmly to her.

She was shocked and she could feel her heart beating so fast. “Huh? What happened?”

“I don’t know, dear. He keeps on vomiting,” she said.

She didn’t know what to do but she tried to calm herself so she could think properly.
“Okay, mom. I am going there now. Please wait for me. Call me if you need me,” Amelia said and ended the call without waiting for her mother’s response.

She quickly went to her room and then she got her bag and went straight to the elevator. This was what she feared the most.

"Okay Mom, I'm coming there now." She quickly went to her room to get her bag and went to the elevator.

She could feel her heart was hammering inside her chest. She uttered a prayer while she was on her way out of the building. She was hoping that once she arrived at the hospital, everything was already under control.

Amelia immediately hailed a taxi going to the hospital. It didn’t take long when she finally reached the hospital where her son was brought. She quickly got inside, and she saw her mother right away sitting outside of the emergency room.

“Amelia,” her mom called her name as soon as she saw her.
“Mom,” she said and then she hugged her so tight.
“Earlier, he was fine. But after we had dinner, he kept on vomiting and I am sorry, I didn’t know what to do,” her mother explained.
“It’s okay, mom. Things happen. Just think that everything will be fine,” Amelia consoled her mother as she could feel the trace of guilt on her voice.

No one was at fault. She was sure that her mother didn’t want what happened to her child as well.

Just after a couple of minutes when she arrived, the doctor came out of the emergency room.

“Luke---” The doctor was not done saying the name of her son yet when she asked him.

“How is he, doc? How is my son?” She asked one after the other as she could no longer hide the worry that she had inside her chest.

“For now, he is stable since we gave him the medicines that he needed but still that is just temporary. We still need to do tests on him like a blood test and if it’s…” the doctor was unable to finish his words when the nurse called him again as Luke was vomiting.

"Mom, what did Luke eat?"

"I gave him fish, but I see to it that there's no bones,” she said while looking at her.

With that said, she immediately went inside of the emergency room. “Doc, please check if there’s a fishbone that is stuck on his throat,” she suggested.
The doctor did check it and she was not mistaken. There was a tiny bone that was stuck on her son’s throat that caused the vomiting.

Amelia was already on her way to the washroom when a familiar figure was outside of the emergency room. He was looking at her with questions in his eyes.
