Chapter 97
Chapter 97
Amelia was smiling after she heard Logan’s confession. She wouldn’t deny that she felt relieved because of everything that she had heard from him.
She never expected everything that he said but she felt lighter knowing that Logan knew her situation and at the same time she was hoping that the man could help her.
“Are you going home now?” She asked Logan.
“Yes, how about you?”
Amelia shook her head.
“Not yet. I still need to wait for Luke’s dextrose to get over and then I have to drop them home. After that, I can get back to Levi’s place,” she explained. She couldn’t leave her mom with her sick child.
Since Levi already knew where she was, she stayed calm. There would be no chance that the man would go to the hospital. She was thankful that her son would be discharged tonight and that made everything easier for her. Though she couldn’t deny to herself that she was in pain. Her child was sick, but she had to leave him to her mother because she had a job to do.
One of the greatest challenges that she had as a working mother. Even if his grandmother was there for him, the love and care of her was still different. And she felt bad because of it but what else could she do? She was the only one providing his needs.
“If you want, I can help you drop your mother and your son,” Logan suggested which made her surprised.
It was a very generous offer that she wanted to accept but she looked at her wristwatch. It was a bit late already.
“Are you sure? I mean, Cathy might be waiting for you,” she said to Logan. “I don’t want her and Leonard to wait for you,” she added.
“Yeah, it’s okay. She knew that I was going to visit a friend at the hospital. So, don’t worry,” he said and smiled at her.
Logan was handsome just like Levi. He was also kind like his brother, and she was happy that she was able to open up to him everything that she was feeling.
“Alright, thank you so much. If you insist then I won’t say no to your offer. Wait here, I will just go ahead and check on mom and Luke,” she said and then she left the car.
"Alright, as you said so, wait here I go check on Mom and Luke." She said and left the car.
Amelia was thinking about what Logan said to her. He might be right that Leonard was her son, but the question was, how did it happen? Her mother told her that her other child was already dead. She was at a loss with her thought when she arrived in the emergency room where her son, Luke was laid down. She saw her mother was looking at her as soon as she got inside. Only a curtain was covering every patient in the emergency room.
And, since they would leave once the IV was finished, she didn’t get a room. That would still be a big part of the bill if she would be getting one.
Her mother was looking at her. Her eyebrows were knitted together as she was thinking about everything that she and Logan had talked about.
“Amelia, is everything okay?” Her mother said in a worried voice.
“Mom, can I ask you something?” She asked her mother. She didn’t know but her heart was uneasy. It was hammering inside her heart as if she couldn’t relax if she wouldn’t be asking her mother even if she had said to her along with her father that Luke’s twin brother was already dead. She didn’t know why all of a sudden when she met Leonard, she thought that her other son was alive. That he was not dead just like what she had believed.
“Sure,” her mother said and then she looked at her intently. She could see the worry in her eyes. “Tell me, what is it? Is there something that’s bothering you?”
She let out a deep sigh. She didn’t know if she should be asking this to her mom, but she had to hear her answer again so she could have a peace of mind.
“Mom, you told me that Luke’s brother is already dead right?” She asked without beating around the bush while looking at her mother.
She saw how confusion crossed her mother’s face. It was like she didn’t expect to hear her question.
“Yes, dear. Me and your father saw and buried his corpse. Why are you asking?” She said full of curiosity in her voice. “Is there anything that happened?”
Amelia shook her head. She couldn’t tell what she and Logan talked about to her mother. It was not the right time yet since she had no proof. Probably, it would be best for her to have the DNA test.
“Nothing, mom. But what if Luke’s twin brother is alive and he isn’t dead like what we have believed for the longest time?” She asked while she was not removing her gaze to her mother. She wanted to see her reaction to her questions.
She saw her mother was surprised by her question, but she was shaking her head.
“That is impossible to happen, dear. I am pretty sure of that. I saw the dead body of my grandson and if that is the case, we are going to sue the hospital for doing that. They are the one who gave us the baby and we buried him,” her mother said with determination in her voice though the shock was still written on her face.
She took a deep breath.
Amelia knew that her mother was telling the truth. There would be no reason for her parents to tell a lie to her especially when it was concerning her children. They wouldn’t like her because they have accepted what happened to her and what would be their purpose?
