Chapter 38

Chapter 38
“Did you already have breakfast?” Levi asked which she was grateful. She felt relieved because he didn’t ask about what happened last night and how she slept just like her first night at the town house.

She nodded. “Yes, I am already done,” she replied after she helped him lean on the headboard.
Levi was looking intently at her and suddenly, she couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking while he was looking at her.

She felt her heart was hammering inside her chest. It was as if it was going to collapse.

There were as if butterflies in her stomach as Levi focused his gaze at her. It was as if his eyes were penetrating her soul.

“Can I ask you a favour?” Levi said to her, and she couldn’t stand his gaze. She looked away as she felt like her knees were turning into jelly the way that the man was looking at her.

“Sure, tell me. What is it?” she replied without looking at him.

“Can we have breakfast together starting tomorrow? Even if you need to wake me up early or if you can wait for me to wake up then, it’s okay,” Levi mumbled, which made her stunned and quickly turned her head at him as she couldn’t believe what she had heard.

She saw the sincerity in his eyes, but she didn’t know what to say.

Sometimes, a sick person just needed extra attention and it seemed that was what Levi wanted. He wanted to be with her so he had a reason to be inspired to get better especially with his case.

She certainly knew that what he had been going through was not easy. After he had been into an accident, he was abandoned by his fiancée. His career had to be stopped and even his studies. He couldn’t pursue almost everything that he had planned because of what happened to him.

She knew that in a few months, Levi was supposed to be graduating in his course as a civil engineer.
And, she felt her heart breaking when she realized that everything that he had planned for his life had been stolen by the accident.

So, even if she felt awkward, Amelia nodded her head and smiled at the man. This was what Levi needed and she had just to remind herself to remain professional.

She had to remember that she was doing this because she wanted him to recover as quickly as possible.

“Sure, starting tomorrow, I am going to wait for you to wake up. We can eat together during breakfast time,” she replied and then she started to change his clothes as a part of their morning routine. “Should we try if I can flip you up in the wheelchair?” She said to him,
At first she was hesitating because the man might get mad again like his reaction during her first day.

Thankfully, Levi nodded.

“But wait. Am I not too heavy for you? You might find it hard,” he said with concern in his voice.
“Come on, you cannot, or we cannot just depend on Uncle Mon every time. Just imagine that there are only the two of us here,” she replied while looking at him.
She couldn’t let Levi control the conversation like what he did the first time.

He had to realize that this was part of her job.

“Alright, let’s try but promise me that if you feel that I am too heavy for you then don’t push it anymore. You might just hurt yourself,” Levi said in a low voice and she knew that the man really cared for her based on his tone of voice.

“Yes, I promise,” she replied and then she pulled the wheelchair which was just close to his bed. After that she held Levi’s arm and they prepared to lift him up to the bed and put him in the wheelchair.

This was no longer new to her. As a therapist, she had encountered a lot of similar cases with Levi, and she couldn’t understand why everything seemed to be a big deal to her. She had to remind herself that she came here as a physical therapist and a nurse.

“Well, I can say that you are a strong woman,” Levi said, and she felt happy because of the praise that she had heard from him. She knew that at first the man didn’t believe with her capability that she would be able to help him.

“Well, I told you. This is my job, and I am trained to do this. Soon, we will need to practice your legs. You have to try standing up so you can walk,” she said as she started to push him heading to the bathroom. Then, she gave him his toothbrush as she started to brush his teeth.

“By the way, the doctor is coming soon. You need to take your medicine and have your breakfast. You should be ready by the time the doctor arrives,” she said to him.

“How long can I stay like this? I was with us to go out,” Levi said instead, which surprised her.
She knew that the man wanted to stand up but not because of them just going out. He wanted to stand up and prove to the world that they were all wrong to think that he could no longer recover, especially his fiancée.

She shrugged her shoulders. She didn’t want to say anything that she was unsure of.

“Let’s see. The doctor will be here and I am sure he will tell you about the findings,” she replied. It was better to answer safely than to give him a false hope. He had already gone through a lot of things, and she couldn’t just make him feel disappointed.
Though she had promised herself that she would be doing her best for the man to recover.

“Amelia,” Levi called her attention. Can I ask you something personal?” She looked at Levi and her heart was pounding so fast.
