Chapter Hundred-and-Eighteen
**Dagen's POV**
Something told me, however, that King Napoleon was not an easy man. I had a feeling that beneath that cool exterior was a tough man. He looked to me to be incapable of unimaginable things, but something told me that it was all just a facade.
“King Napoleon, I greet you,” I greeted him. I could not address him as ‘Your Majesty' when I myself am a king.
“Who are you? And what is your mission?” he asked in a boring tone.
“I am Alpha Dagen…” I told him my name and explained my role in my pack. He did not seem impressed at all, he only kept staring at me. The silence in his court was beginning to get awkward. Was I supposed to state my request now? Why did it look like he enjoyed making me uncomfortable?
“Alpha Dagen, I have heard a lot about you and some of the unpleasant things you do to other packs,” said King Napoleon after a while. So he had a problem with my style of leadership? Or was he threatened by the fact that I exerted such influence and authority over other clans? I wondered what he had heard about me but it did not seem like he had heard something personal about me.
“I am sure I can delight you with pleasant tales about myself, but business demands that I move quickly,” I said.
“What is it you want? I believe my people have asked if you have come with war or peace. So why are you here?”
“I have been made to believe that Regina resides in your court and under your authority,” I said, and a strange sort of silence descended upon the place. It was like I had mentioned a forbidden word, or I had broken a taboo.
“Regina? Anybody can be named Regina. To whom do you refer to? What household do you speak of?” except if King Napoleon was an imbecile he should have realised that I meant his household. Why else would I have come to his palace?
“My Intel tells me that she resides within your palace walls,” I tried my best to remain calm. There was no good that would come out of flaring up in anger. I was here for Regina, and I was not going to allow an anger tantrum to get in the way of that.
“Your Intel? Do you keep Intel on my kingdom? And for what reason exactly? What business is it of yours with what goes on in my palace?” asked King Napoleon. I had offended the man somehow. The only reason this was proving difficult was because he did not belong to the council. If he had, the council would have compelled him to cooperate since, after all, I was here to take my mate back home.
“You misunderstand King Napoleon. I do not keep Intel on you. My search for Regina led me here,” I said to him.
“Well, your search has been futile. I have not heard of a Regina within the walls of my palace,” returned King Napoleon. It was obvious that he was lying. I was not sure what his motive was for lying but I knew that he was and for now, it was okay for me. At least, I knew that I had come to the right place.
“King Napoleon, I am aware that she is your niece; if you will only…”
“Young man, return to your town and stop bothering me. I do not know Regina,” I feared that if I spoke further, I would anger him more so I held my peace and said nothing. I motioned for Philemon to step forward to present the gifts I had brought for the man.
“I do not care about your gifts. I want you out of my city at once, and it would be in your best interest to never return here,” he was angry at me. Had Regina told him how horrible of a person I was? I could not understand the hatred with which he stared at me. What exactly was the matter? I did not think the matter was as simple as what I had done to Regina.
I went to the inn where I had rested the night and when I opened the door, I was confronted by a young lady with green eyes. Her eyes reminded me of Regina but it was not Regina.
“How might I help you?” I asked, surprised to see a woman in my room.
“Regina is not here. She ran away with the twins some years back,” she said, her words hurriedly.
“Twins? What are you talking…”
“They are going to kill her. You must find her before they do something horrible to her but I can tell you that she is not here…”
“Where is she?” I asked the lady, but she seemed in some sort of hurry and there was horror written all over her face. She was scared of being discovered.
“You must find her and the twins,” she said, and afterwards was gone. I was left standing in the middle of my room wondering if I had dreamed up the lady. And what was she speaking of when she mentioned twins? What twins? Had Regina been pregnant with twins? Had she really not miscarried my child, or from what I hear, children?
I packed the few things I had travelled with in haste and left the room. Philemon was already waiting for me, so we began our trip back to the border.
However, when we reached the border, I was arrested by King Napoleon's guards. They had no reason for the arrest and were only escorted back to the man's palace. I began to think that I had made a mistake coming here. I did not regret it though, since I knew that Regina had my children. All I had to do was find them. I also knew that Edvin would be worried if I did not return home soon, so I would not be locked up for long.
