Chapter Hundred-and-Fifty-One

**Regina's POV**

We entered what I believed to be Lucian's quarters. The beauty of the place did not surprise me but the fact that it was flooded with light that it was almost impossible to open one's eyes took me by surprise. If we were in the depths of hell how could there be so much light in one place?

“I apologize,” Lucian's voice was soft but not as soft as his fingers when he placed them on my eyes. This time when I opened my eyes, the light did not hurt me so badly and I discovered that I could see the room clearly.

“Wow! What did you place on my eyes?” I asked, curiously.

“It's a balm. You do not need to worry about what it might be. You still haven't told me why you are here? What did you come to the underworld for?” asked Lucian. I rolled my eyes. Why did he want to know that so badly? He had already hinted to me that I could never trust anyone here so why would I trust him with my secret?

“Why do you care?” I asked him. There has to be a reason for his curiousity.

“Do you know what happened to my mate?” Lucian asked, he was looking into my eyes like he was searching for my soul.

“Prince, if you will stop avoiding my question perhaps I would not answer yours as well,” came my response. I had no intention of telling him that I had come to this place in search of my children but I wanted to know why he was so curious about me. What about me was so fascinating that he had to know? Why had he saved me when he had no business doing so?

“You have no intention of telling me the truth. I cannot read your mind but I can see it in your eyes. You want to keep your secret well guarded,” returned Lucian.

“I do not know what happens to your mate,” came my response. I decided it was best to ignore his rant about my well-guarded secret. If he wanted to talk about his mate then I would let him. Perhaps, he was spending time with me because he was bored and wanted to talk to someone.

“King Hades will kill her; that is what happens to the mate of every prince. King Hades will kill her and afterwards, the prince will marry a woman of King Hades choosing,” replied Lucian. His voice bore sadness as he said this.

“You look sad,” I remarked because it was true; I could almost feel his sadness as though it was a blanket trying to envelop me.

“King Hades is going to take your life,” he said to me matter of fact. I was confused; I looked around to check if he was talking about someone else but it was just me in the room with him. Why would Hades kill me? What did I… But my thoughts froze because I saw the glow. My chest was glowing and so was his. I looked at him with horror in my eyes. I was to die because I was Lucian's mate? How could that even happen? I had thought that no one could actually die here. If I was living among the dead, how much more dead could Hades make me?

“Is that why you brought me here? Are you going to kill me now?” I asked with a trembling voice. I could not die, at least not when I did not know where my twins were.

“Kill you? I cannot do such a thing. The only person that can kill here is Hades,” came his response.

“Then… then… we don't tell him?” I tried to appeal to the good in him if there was any at all.

“I brought you here to give you time, you need to tell me why you are here so I can help you achieve your goal here. It's the least I can do to help you,” he said in a soft voice but I could not say a word. I was terrified and I broke into tears.

“Please stop crying. You need to stop crying,” he was trying to calm me down but I could not remain calm. He had just told me I was going to stop existing and he wanted me to be calm.

“If Hades kills me, what does that mean?” I ask, my voice was still shaking with fear.

“You cease to exist. It will be like you never lived at all,” he said to me.

“And if I… if I had children. What happens to them?” I asked, dreading the answer whatever it may be.

“I'm sorry,” came his response.

“Then history changes right? It all changes? I was never born so… so no one ever threw me out and I never met...”

“Nothing changes. You would have never existed; it means the world as you know it does not exist at all. Time here is funny; its current is very different from the outside,” said Lucian.

It was a relief in a way. This felt like an escape. If my world never existed then my twins never did; then Dagen and Emily and Harriet and Tyler as I knew them never did; it was such a huge relief and yet I was scared. I was so scared.

“Okay, okay, I think. Okay.”

“Why are you here?” he asked again.

“If I cease to exist; it would not matter anymore,” I said with tears in my eyes.

“I see. We should step out now,” he said but I grabbed his shirt.

“Wait. Just wait. I need time,” I said as I slid on the wall so I was sitting on the floor.

He nodded and sat with me on the floor.

We sat in silence for a while until someone rushed into the room.

“What the hell Derek? Have you no respect for…”
