Chapter Eighty-six

Our fates were even more intertwined than we think. The bastard had some nerves. How could our fates possibly be intertwined? I had never been close to Alpha George nor had I ever sought his friendship or advice over anything. In fact, it was rich of him to say that his impeachment would cause an imbalance in our realm. How could that possibly be? Sure, the blood moon pack was significant in size and wealth but its glory days had ended with the previous Alpha. Frankly, no one cared what went on there.

_“Regina.”_

Kane had been quiet all this time_ too quiet; I had begun to worry that when the full moon shone in the sky, he might play hide and seek and refuse to howl into the night.

_“Where have you been?” I asked._

_“Your guilt kept me quiet.”_

_“Should you not beat my brow since…”_

_“Focus on what can be controlled.”_

_“And that is?”_

_“Regina.”_

I mulled the name over in my mind for a minute. Regina? Why would Kane bring up Regina now? To guilt me?

_“You idiot. You were wondering how your fate might be intertwined with George.”_

Then it struck me!

Elder Thaddeus had mentioned before that those green eyes reminded him of someone he had seen during a visit to the Blood Moon pack. Perhaps, it was not a coincidence that Alpha George was rumoured to have a daughter whom he locked up because she was born of his mistress. Honestly, I was not certain if that was what the rumours were but there was definitely something about a daughter he was not too proud of. Could it really be Regina? Had she been running away from her father's pack when she landed in Mosvil?

“Alpha Dagen?” It was Abbot, my butler, who drew me out of my thoughts.

“Abbot?”

“Alpha Raphael has just come. I thought you would want to know,” he informed me and I nodded in acknowledgement of the message.

A few minutes later, I joined Alpha Raphael in the drawing room where he was amusing himself with a woman on his lap.

“Are the rumours true Raphael? You cannot be without a woman even for a day?” I asked, half-jokingly, as I strode into the room.

“I could, but it would be insane if I did, seeing as there are so many women who need a piece of me,” he replied with a gruff laugh, motioning for the woman on his lap to excuse the room.

“You are setting a bad example for your son,” I said, shaking my head as though in pity.

“It is Princess Charlotte I pity then. She is to marry my son,” he smiled as he said this.

“Your son is barely six and this Princess Charlotte? How old?”

“I believe she is one or there about.”

“You are a dog, that's that,” I said, shaking my head. Even if I did have a child I would not decide his fate where it concerns love to attend a political need. Even if me and Nydia had not ended on good terms, I had once genuinely cared for her, and it was a feeling I would love for my child to experience.

“I am sure the boy will take after me. Besides, if Princess Charlotte is anything like her mother she would be very beautiful. Perhaps, I should have asked for her hand instead,” Alpha Raphael was something of a pervert. I would not like to know the details of his sexual affairs but I am sure that if I peered too closely, our friendship might suffer.

“The winter in the Dark moon pack rages on then? Perhaps it is a sign your son should not go through with the betrothal,” I gave my candid opinion but I knew he would not be open to it.

“I saw Alpha George about an hour ago. What did he want from you?” Alpha Raphael asked, changing the subject to more serious matters.

“He figured the rumours were true about the Elders,” came my response.

“The rumours?”

“They do not take bribes, or perhaps he is not rich enough to pay them off, so he figured he'd have it easy with me,” I said with a shrug.

“He's a fool. He is only declaring himself guilty if he is worried about the impeachment,” replied Alpha Raphael.

“Who knows? He mentioned something bullshit about my fate being entwined with his. I do not understand why he would say that,” I had to admit that it was bothering me a little bit. Was this really about Regina?

“When people are desperate for support they say a lot of nonsense,” was Alpha Raphael's response. I wanted to believe that was all there was to it, but somehow, it disturbed me. If Regina turned out to be his daughter he could put forward the motion that I had kidnapped royal blood and endangered his daughter's life. Unfortunately, it was all too known how much spite I had treated her with.

“You are that worried, huh?” questioned Alpha Raphael and I tried in vain to school my expression like I did not care at all.

“He had this look on his face when he said it. I cannot get it off my mind,” I said. Maybe the rumours were true that he was a sorcerer and he had used his dark magic to confuse my thoughts.

“Do not let it bother you, Dagen. There is no way your fate is entwined with his,” assured Alpha Raphael.

“I just hope it is nothing like you say. If there is something to what he has said it could affect how things go tomorrow,” I was a bit worried that my judgement might be clouded. What if he revealed tomorrow that Regina was his daughter? What then?

_“It would be no fault of yours. He mistreated her first then. It was clear she was running away from something and she feigned memory loss about her past life,” Kane said. _
