Chapter Three-Hundred-and-Seven
3rd Person POV
“Can you believe those two? They act like children,” said Dagen with a laugh.
“How's your mother?” asked Dagen. He had heard that Irvette had recovered. He had been slightly surprised to see that Harlin had followed the twins here. He had expected that he would remain with his mother. He wondered how the three of them had formed an inseparable bond. Sometimes, it felt like he had triplets instead of twins.
“She's recuperating,” responded Harlin with a smile. Of the three he was the most reserved and he appeared to be often shy. Dagen knew for instance that Harlin loathed parties because he did not want to be the centre of attention. It baffled him how Harlin had become friends with his twins. And no matter how much Harlin hated parties, he would always attend the parties where the twins would be.
“Please give her my best wishes,” said Dagen.
Harlin only smiled.
Dagen smiled too. He would never have thought that he could ever wish Irvette well but irrespective of what age had done, her son had grown up to be a good kid. He was grateful for his company with his twins. He knew that without Harlin in their little group, the twins would likely destroy themselves with their extreme adventures. And judging from the way Charlotte and Reginald ran across the hall it was obvious that they had not matured a bit.
“Will you two stop running around like little children?” someone shouted. Alpha Dagen looked up in surprise, that voice only belonged to one person.
“Mother!” The twins went running towards her. They were pleasantly surprised to see her.
“Now, now, stop pretending to like me,” said Regina as she held her children in her arms.
“Mother, you must tell Charlie to stop using my weaknesses against me,” reported Reginald at once.
“You must tell him to…”
“Enough, you two!” shouted Dagen. Unfortunately, they had grown up so he could not send them to a naughty corner.
“Harlin, dearest come take your friends away,” said Regina.
When the trio had left the hall, Dagen looked at Regina in awe. He could not believe that she was here. She never came to his pack except it was unavoidable.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” asked Dagen. He knew she must have come for something important although nothing came to mind.
“My children are here, so I came,” shrugged Regina. She hated that she did not have a better excuse.
“The children?” Dagen quipped. Even when they had been much younger, Regina had avoided this place like a plague.
“Yes, I missed them,” she responded curtly.
“Well, you are always welcome to my home,” said Dagen with a warm smile. He did not know what had made her come all the way but he was grateful for it.
Regina cleared her throat and asked to be shown a room she could stay in.
“You're spending the night here? In my palace?” asked Dagen out of shock. She had never done that. When she had come to his pack for her friend's wedding she had opted to stay in an inn instead. What changed her mind now?
“I want to be close to my children,” was her response. For whatever reason, Dagen was pleasantly surprised. He personally escorted her to what he had designed to be her quarters many years ago; it was a place befitting of his Luna.
When they reached the door, she turned to face him, “I'm only spending a few nights.”
A few nights? Dagen felt like he was in a dream.
“I see, I will tell the children where your room is,” said Dagen with a smile.
Regina entered the room.
It was not a room.
It was an entire wing on its own.
She was not complaining though.
A maid bowed to her as she entered. She rolled her eyes. She had never gotten used to a maid taking care of her. She preferred still to handle things by herself.
‘Why are you here? I thought we were done with him? Is that not what you vowed? That you will never see Dagen again?’
Raven, Regina's wolf, reminded her of the promise she had made to herself. She rolled her eyes and tried to block the voice of her wolf but that was impossible.
It's Queen Euphrates, isn't it? You saw the desire for Dagen in her eyes and you can't help yourself.
“Raven! Just shut up!” Regina shouted loudly.
“My lady?” she had forgotten that a maid was with her in the room. She cleared her throat and said to the maid, “Not you, dear.”
“My name is Raven,” said the innocent-looking maid. Regina looked intently at the maid and it was funny how she could attribute the girl's face to her wolf.
“Do you stay here all day?” she asked her.
“I am the maid in charge of keeping the Luna’s wings,” she responded with a smile. Regina almost choked on her spit. Luna's wing? Dagen had created a wing for his Luna? What Luna?
“I don't follow, Alpha Dagen has no Luna,” Regina stated the obvious.
“He prepared this place specifically for his Luna. He said she would return home one day and when that day comes, I should take good care of her. I am happy you have returned home, Your Highness. I will serve you with…”
“Enough! Enough! You're not making any sense right now. Luna? I am not the Alpha's Luna,” She told the maid in a strong tone.
Foolish girl! You're impressed by this. Have you forgotten how deeply he hurt you over a beautiful room? Raven reminded her but Regina continued to ignore her wolf.
“My lady! That is impossible! This room is for the Luna alone. The Alpha has never allowed anyone into this place except me to take care of it,” Raven said to Regina, her face marred with confusion.
“Give me a moment, dear. There must be a terrible mistake.”
