Chapter Hundred-and-Sixty-Five

**3rd Person POV**

Princess Eris knew it was too soon to feel relief but she was happy to know that her son was on her side in spite of their earlier spat.

“I am looking out for you son. Princess Eris has a reputation for going about, it would not help you in your quest for the throne. Your legitimacy can be questioned.”

“Enough Father. I will not be marrying anyone and that is final,” returned Princess Eris in a firm voice. It was time she stood up to her father. He had never come to see her since he had sent her here and he was now concerned if her son would become Hades.

“The King of Time has asked me for your hand in marriage. He promises to help Prince Aegan become Hades if you will agree to become his wife.”

Princess Eris was filled with anger. She wanted to tear someone apart. She wanted to destroy something. What right did Time have to do that when she had turned down his offer?

“Father, I am afraid you have overstayed your welcome. Please leave my home,” her hands were balled up in a fist to prevent her from throwing her fist at her father.

“You will throw me out?”

“Yes, Father.”

“You have until the fiery red moon, Eris. Once the fiery red moon appears, you will marry Time or I will ensure that you cease to exist.”

Silence prevailed in Princess Eris’ quarters long after her father had left. She watched her son's face, trying to decipher what he was going to say.

“Aegan…”

“He's right. Your reputation will be damaging to my cause,” said Prince Aegan. Already people were calling him the son of a prostitute and inferring that he was not Hades' son.

“Aegan, everything that I do I do it for you,” said Princess Eris.

Prince Lucian took Regina and Dagen to his mother's quarters. He wanted to entertain his friend and also get to the root of their problem. When they entered her quarters, the Fae queen’s face lit up at the sight of Dagen.

“How wonderful to see you! You're all grown up now,” said the Fae queen with a bright smile as she embraced Dagen. It felt like a minute ago when Dagen's parents had come to visit her.

“How are your parents?” inquired the Fae queen.

“My parents have passed away,” Dagen said in a sad tone.

“Oh dear, It must have been hard. Even then, they had an inkling of what was to happen,” said the Fae queen.

“My uncle murdered my father. It was very sad what happened but it's been a while now,” returned Dagen.

“Where are my manners? Please make yourself at home. I shall order the servants to make you something that will appeal to your taste,” the Fae queen said to her guest.

“Thank you, Your Highness.”

“What brings you here?” without asking, the Fae queen could guess that it had something to do with her son's love interest.

“Is it possible that you have heard of twins being down here?” Regina's heart tugged at the mention of the twins. She had not trusted even Lucian enough to tell him about her missing children. However, she believed that if Dagen could mention the twins to the Fae queen, she and her son could be trusted. She still loathed Dagen for what he had done but she had decided it was best to put her feelings aside and concentrate on locating the twins.

The expression on the Fae queen changed slightly when she heard the word twins. It changed because she knew who had the twins but she had been sworn to secrecy not to divulge the information. She understood that even at this moment, the twins were being transported to safety.

“You have twin children?” the Fae queen said instead of answering Dagen's question.

“A boy and a girl,” Dagen had a proud smile on his face. He had never seen the children but he loved them dearly. He could not wait to be reunited with them.

“Lovely. And their mother?” she asked. It was only for formality's sake that she asked this question because, from the tension in the room, she could guess who the mother was.

“This is her,” said Dagen.

“Perisphone?”

“Regina, she does have a fragment of Perisphone's soul,” Dagen replied. Regina rolled her eyes. Dagen had not changed at all. He still held no respect for her because if he did, he would not speak about her as though she were not in the room.

She ignored them; she could endure any insult so long as her children were found. However, she would have to put her foot down when they were found. She understood that Dagen needed an heir but she did not want her son or daughter to grow up solely under his care. She wanted to raise children who had empathy even for the lowest of persons.

“Regina, I see. You may sit,” the Fae queen finally acknowledged her presence.

“I believe you have a choice then. When you find your children you can leave this place to go be with them,” said the Fae queen who did not want her close to her son. She felt that her being here would only serve as a distraction to Lucian.

“Mother!” said Lucian. His voice sounded hurt; he could not believe he was about to lose the woman he loved to his friend.

“I will decide what to do when I know my children are safe. As you have rightly said, your Highness, I have a choice to make. I may decide after all to stay alone,” said Regina. She was sending a message to both men. She was not anybody’s woman but her own person.

“A wise choice. A woman must make her own way in the world,” returned the Fae queen. Against her own wishes, she was beginning to like Regina. She seemed like a strong and independent woman.
