Chapter Two-Hundred-and-Eighty-Eight

**3rd Person POV**

Reginald had let go of Thomson's hair and the three of them watched feverishly as Thomson shook in fits of agony as he turned. As he turned, his body grew longer and he became bigger. Hair sprouted from all over his body. The three of them looked at one another in horror.

“He injected himself with the ultimate vial,” said Reginald in terror.

Rosaline had told them that Thomson had been working on a vial that could transform anyone into a sort of mutation of a vampire and werewolf and a zombie with a slight streak. He intended for this zombie to be the ultimate zombie, one that could have full control of its mind.

“But he is not close to perfecting it yet. I don't think Ashton knows about this yet, I only found out by accident when he was experimenting on one of his subjects,” Rosaline had told them.

Charlotte, with her eyes squarely focused on Thomson, asked, “Do you think he ever perfected the experiment?”

“I guess we'll soon find out,” replied Harlin.

“I'll throw flames at it,” said Reginald, striking a matchese and lighting up a torch.

He threw it at the half turned zombie and while it hissed its anger, it continued to turn.

Before Reginald could light up another torch, its transformation was complete.

The entrance of the cave was a bloody mess. The strategy was to keep the zombies in a confined space so that none of them would escape. The idea of this battle was to fight till one passed out. There was no room for rest. They had to fight until every single one of them was dead.

Kristoff was in full battle mode and the situation did not warrant that he worry about anyone besides himself. However, he noticed that Charlotte was no longer where she was supposed to be. He was not too worried because he knew she was an excellent fighter with skills that he envied. But he did start to worry when he noticed that Reginald was missing too.

Shit!

He exclaimed under his breath when he realised what was going on. There was no sign of Harlin as far as he could tell and that meant only one thing. The trio had gone into the depths of the cave to retrieve Harlin's mother.

“Take over command!” Kristoff hastily told his second in command.

“Command? Where are you…”

“Tell Alpha Dagen to send reinforcements for the princess,” Kristoff said and began fighting his way forward, trying to clear a path for himself into the cave.

“Princess? What princess?” His second-in-command was quite confused by the strange request but Kristoff was already gone.

He looked about trying to figure out where Alpha Dagen stood or at least where King Armand was because the heir to the throne had just gone off on his own into purely enemy battle territory.

He spotted Alpha Dagen first and when Dagen received the news that his daughter was inside the cave of zombies, his face turned white with terror.

Alpha Dagen wasted no time. Without thinking up a plan, he attempted to cross enemy lines but Lord Edvin who was fighting by his side was quick to pull him back.

“You can't go in there,” scolded Lord Edvin. He was already uncomfortable with the fact that the Alpha and his heir were in battle at the same time. If anything happened to both of them, the throne would be left vacant and that was not good.

“I don't have time, she's in danger…” protested Dagen. The only reason he had not moved was because Edvin had a strong grip on his arm.

“Who is in danger?”

“Charlotte, you have to let me…”

“Reginald and Harlin are not where they are… they are insane!” Edvin screamed, realising what was happening.

“Indeed, we have to go in,” the both of them turned to see a troubled looking King Armand who had just been told that his son had foolishly followed after the woman he loved.

It was decided very quickly that a quarter of their forces would enter into enemy lines to retrieve the heirs to some of the most powerful kingdoms in werewolf and vampire kingdoms.

Ashton could not believe that he was losing the war. It did seem like he was gaining momentum but it was not true. The idea had been that his army would be able to turn the other army. He was angry with himself for having trusted Rosaline so much. He had not known until now that the vampires had clades themselves in nylon so that the zombies would be unable to bite them. So, his army was falling all around him but the other army was not turning. His army did cause a lot of damage for the others but he did not like his odds. He needed a breakthrough in this war.

Just as those thoughts clouded his mind he saw something rather strange, some of the other army were making a determined entrance into the cave. He wondered why they were so determined to enter the cave.

Then he smiled.

Irvette.

Harlin and the twins must have tried to retrieve her and now they were going to retrieve them.

This was just the breakthrough he was looking for. With the three inside the cave all he had to do was secure the entrance and kill them all. If he could then it would affect morale greatly and he might perhaps have a chance at winning this.

This is too easy!

Lord Edvin was thinking as they cut their way through the zombies. It was almost like the zombies were making way for them to pass through as they were met with almost no resistance from them.

“It's a trap!” yelled King Armand.

“It's too late and we must get them out at all cost,” remarked Dagen in return.

Lord Edvin turned and his fears were confirmed. Like King Armand had said, it was a trap. The zombies were sealing the entrance of the cave with their numbers.
